Purging lasts about 4-8 weeks and is typically your skin vomiting impurities deep within due to rapid cell turnover from AHAs and BHAs, retinoids, etc. A good way to tell if your skin is purging is if your pimples are healing faster.

You really should start small. Less is best, if you start an entirely new routine all at once you can't figure out what is and isn't working. Right now I'd focus on a cleansing system and moisturizer, you can start on masks, serums and exfoliants after you have that down and introduce everything very slowly. Keep to calming products..dermalogica has an ultracalming line that is really great!

I recently got a full back patch test and found it in allergic to fragrances, nickel, and cobalt. I figured I was allergic to fragrances, but had no Idea that allergy was leading to the itchy red blisters on my fingers. The big reaction I've been dealing with is around my mouth and lips from playing trumpets and flutes with nickel mouthpieces! I've been struggling with this for two years and have finally gotten some real answers and results! Cetaphil gentle cleanser is creamy and the most gentle formula I've ever tried. I highly recommend. Idk why she Said not Cetaphil. It's brilliant! As an occlusive, be careful of Vaseline. It's pretty rare, but it made my allergic reaction way worse and prevented it from healing. I've been using Shea butter and it's been working wonders. My dermatologist also recommended hypochlorous acid spray and I'm obsessed. These products paired with my bioderma gel creme have been saving me and I feel my confidence slowly coming back and my skin is almost back to normal, if not better!!

I may have accidentally irritated my skin by over exfoliation at the beginning of this month. I used PC's BHA 2% and Dermalogica's age bright serum because I ran out of my other serum and woke up with texture all over my face but especially in my cheek and jaw area, where I don't typically break out. I forgot the age bright serum had salicylic acid, and my skin's sensitive, so now I'm working towards healing that mistake. I've been trying not to be embarrassed by the mistake, and how I look, and give my skin the hydration it needs. but, I just today realized I was still using an active (in my gel moisturizer; Clinique iD with the fatigue cartridge) so that's why it's been almost two weeks without improvement😔. so I'll removing that from my routine and continue this recommended routine to heal my skin.

Fragrance is one of the ingredients known in skincare to cause contact dermatitis. It may not even happen immediately, but over time, that’s when you wake up one day and you’re like why is my skin reacting to a product I have always used! Interestingly fragrance in one product that can cause you to have a reaction to other products your use on your skin, which would normally not cause a reaction. As more consumers speak up, we will see more and more skincare products become fragrance free, which is healthier overall.

I think because the term "fragrance" is not well regulated and can be comprised of numerous components, its hard to pinpoint your exact allergen. Just because one fragranced product breaks you out, doesnt mean another uses the same fragrance components/essential oils in their product that would break you out.

I had some issues when I started Cerave's retinoid-I wish I had been able to know the difference then! My skin was burning all the time and I started having really intense breakouts on my jaw-where I had never had acne before. I switched back to daily lactic acid use, which seemed to clear up my face a bit, but honestly has left my skin pretty dry and uneven despite the more clear skin. I think I'm going to lessen my acid use to a couple times a week in the hopes it will help-and from there make the transition to the ordinary's granactive retinoid, it made the broken out sun damaged skin on my shoulders feel really good!

My skin has been going through ups and downs and as of right now, I am putting pimecromilus on my face to deal with the redness. After trying several things like salicylic acid (didn’t have much luck) and niacinamide (love this ingredient), I decided to try Benzoyl Peroxide (10%🤦🏾‍♀️). I used it at night, woke up the next day with great results and no irritation. Where I went wrong is on the following morning, I used an AHA toner and vitamin C serum. The next day I had dermatitis. This happened Friday btw😭. I have not used any actives since, only hydrating products. My skin has greatly improved, but I still have some pesky acne. @@Shivanah It's kind of both really depending on where I'm purging. Areas like the sides of my face and my jawline would experience acne that seems to be a mix of pimples that are really more like clogged up pores. Those are the areas that I tend to break out so the information could tend to be pus that sometimes has a tiny blackhead on the top that's attached to it or other times there isn't. I always just leave the pimples to run their course as they tend to just dry up and fall off in the shower when I wash my face. This would make it the 3rd week of my purging on .1% tretinoin and my face is mostly cleared now but that could be because I've used the medication in the past. Hope this helps!

@reneesaneptune 4 жыл бұрын
@@Shivanah It's no problem at all. Oh And I know the struggle of retinol purging all too well 😭😭 some days irs really hard seeing the pimples but I would really really encourage you to continue with it because your skin is becoming accustomed to it and the medication is literally digging up all those deeply embedded skin gunk. Each time you stop and start back using a retinol it'll restart the purging because remember it's increasing the rate of cell turnover due to it being a powerful chemical exfoliatant. Just keep using it and make sure to keep your skin very hydrated as it helps sooo much. I actually picked at my skin last week and was left with lots of redness but the next day it turned into scabs and then when I showered later in the day all the scabs got really soft and they peeled off and I was so relieved. Retinol is one of the best ingredients out there because it leaves you with baby soft and glowing skin but it takes time. Be patient with your skin and with the medication and you'll see how amazing the benefits are, trust me. Skin picking is literally so hard but try your best to avoid it while your skin is purging because pimples tend to literally just pop back up because they're so deep. Try keeping your hands and mind occupied with things that make you happy and take your mind off it. It's hard now, but it'll but better ❤

This really helped. I started Versed’s Retinol Serum about a month ago and at first I thought that it wasn’t very strong because the first 2 times a used it ( I’ve been using it every 2 days, so it works out to about twice a week), I saw no irritation, no dryness, no redness ( no more than usual I should say), no extra breakouts ( or breakouts in unusual places). But that 3rd time I used it, I woke up the next morning with a host of new, red, and sore pimples around my mouth and chin, which is a usual breakout spot for me. I was so nervous that it was irritation but I have watched videos by Mixed Makeup, James Welsh, and a few others talking about Purging, so I was hopefully that would be what was causing the breakout. I continued to use the retinol serum and I am still breaking out but it is getting better, so it’s good to know what to look out for, have a timeline, and know how to treat it. Thank you 🙏🏼 for this video.
