For those who have watched the series... What are your thoughts?
@leefcommunity
@leefcommunity 5 ай бұрын
Average at best... Still very censored / controlled media narrative and the format is quite dated. Nowhere near as "intimate" as I think it was hyped to be... Of course I appreciate, creating hype / tension / drama around events that have already happened and now have little meaning is an almost impossible task. There wasn't any really "new" information for current rugby fans. We know about Genge, we know about Porter etc... But, OK I understand the goal is also to find new consumers, so basically bringing these existing stories in various outlets into one cohesive tale is simpler for new people and "soft" followers of the game. Of course, it's just the first series and so lots of room for improvement and following versions usually manage to improve as more people understand the effect and become more eager to get involved... What I did love is the difference between the European Teams. I can see why Crowley got sacked. Italian and French rugby don't limit their vocabulary to just effing and blinding every 3rd word, but have actually picked up a thesaurus to be able to express themselves in a more elegant manner. Lastly, having just watched Episode 5... I would be very curious about the diehards (including the GBR boys) who bemoan the continuous kicking in the game, and think that we need to steal Shaun Edwards back to GB rugby will make of his very clear comments in "Frenglish" during the team review... :D

How about an episode where you get a few open minded rugby fans to come on and discuss the upcoming six nations. I am South African, but come on Scotland!! Sadly won’t be invited,but I’m sure there are some great fans out there just want talk rugby and have a great point of view from a fans perspective.

Just saying, Netflix Its a good start, only wish fan welfare was as big as player welfare, the over complicated nature of rules in rugby is a turn off for many, non rugby viewers.😊 especially around TMO should have less input only on tries and only go back one play, get rid of it for every fkn bullshit thing, slows the game down, massively, and so what wrong calls refs call it, and apolgies after the game and probably doesnt get the big games,, no red or yellow cards during game ,players go on report and suffer penaties outside the game reviews outside of pressure calls during game, and any head knocks players offenders suffer penalties.

Just watched the first few episodes and sorry but it's shite. Massive RU supporters here, but the whole thing just fell flat. Could they have picked any more monosyllabic players than they did to feature? It doesn't 'make their stories come alive' as James Gay-Rees suggests, it just makes them come across as dull individuals in real life, who have some ability on the Rugby pitch. This could have been such a tremendous documentary series that really showcased Rugby to the non-Rugby playing world, and instead it was just a collection of inane talking to camera, reliving matches from a year ago, and if anything, it completely deflated our perceptions of teams and players we previously lauded. In terms of fly-on-the-wall content - what should have been motivating, passionate talks from coaches were as dull as ditchwater, and the only hint of any kind of passion was the boringly repetitive use of the 'f' word. I'd rate this series 3/10. Could have been great ... but for us at least, very disappointing.

Yeah Europe should just stop playing rugby all together so SA can feel special. I swear SA fans have been so bitter all over KZfaq over this documentary. Not everything has to be focused around you and your country, just be happy there is an opportunity for the sport to grow and then even more people will know how great SA rugby is. These crazy baseless narratives "European attempt at erasing southern hemisphere dominance" just makes you look mentally ill. Do you even care about the sport ? or is it just a way to feel proud about your country ?

SA have won two WCs and a lions series in the last 4 years, and chase the sun documentary was universally loved by fans around the world including the Europeans. Not to mention URC saving SA rugby from bankruptcy when NZ and RA walked away from them. None the less even with all the success they are full of resentment like no other people I've seen. No wonder the country is on its knees and anyone who wants a happy prosperous life, leaves to live abroad.

I agree it should play up to what it is. There's a lot of high quality people in rugby from all classes. It should celebrate it's links to education and rural areas rather than trying to appeal to the wimpy types who like watching primadonna soccer players pout and get a creepy mind rush from the voyeurism of discussing their wealth and private life's like its a feckin soap opera. Rugby should be anti current societal trends as a lot of people are being put off by the zillionaires in other sports and their behaviour.
