She used that “mid-Atlantic” elocution, which I think is just so gorgeous…. Lofty and beautiful and so missed these days of casual everything. I do miss elegance.

Katherine Cornell was one of the two greatest actresses of the American stage. The other was Helen Hayes.

I have both Norma Shearer's and Jennifer Jones' film portrayals of 1934 and 1956 respectively who played Elizabeth Barrett Browning.Jones in her biography, stated she admired Katherine Cornell when as a struggling actress in a cold water flat in New York that she too wanted to succeed on the stage.
