Understandably many groups change the key of songs to reflect an ageing voice - I don’t think I’ve heard it done it better than this. That Kevin retains his ability to entertain in the same way several tones down is testimony to his singular talent. And just look at how great this lot look. Dignified eccentricity. Lovely.

Despite what the one-hit status of Dexys in the U.S. might be, Kevin Rowland is a true musical genius. His 3rd and final album with Dexys, "Don't Stand Me Down," is a masterpiece of 80s pop and, in my opinion, one of the greatest albums of the era (it even has a 12-minute epic in "What She's Like"). A shame he's only recognized for this one song.

@@razzledcroaker3678 Yes. It was so ambitious that it killed the band's career and it had two different mixes released. It is treated as it should: an outstanding album. "DTMD" and their debut album were landmarks in UK's pop music.

Kevin had some bumps in his career that he acknowledged in a recent past... I'm happy that Dexys came back, I would've hate seeing Rowland only being remembered as the "80's guy in a dress in the 90's" or the "eccentric one hit wonder". The press can be ruthless. When I saw their debut album and "Don't Stand Me Down" featured on the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" in 2007 I knew the full recognition would come sooner or later.

An astute observation chap! Belongs in the same league as the 3rd movement of Moonlight Sonata, anything from Chopin, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Living on a Prayer by Bovine Joni, Wu Tang's C.R.E.A.M. , Rebecca Black's Friday, OHHHH shit can't forget Arms Wide Open by Creed. Damn that song got me through some tough times... I always thought to myself, at least I'm not a terrible "rock" band making shit music, but you're right! This is way worse, at least I'm not them! Since discovering this video...A very big thank you to the poster of this. 40 years old and this takes me right back to my grandads house at Christmas. I was 5 or 6. Wonderful memories and I know I have been lucky. If I was in that studio when this was recorded I think I'd out do Keith Allen in the submerged in the music dance. Love it.
