Everybody wants the Native aesthetic, but doesn't want to deal with the actual struggle and pain of First Nations, historical and present day. We need more actual indigenous artists like this.

We need all humans, together, as a species!! .. indigenous people and their culture, are dying and will continue to die. This is both sad and a necessary part of reality... music like this, keeps the ancient culture alive, for a little bit longer. Nothing more. But, I agree, we need more of it.. because it's beautiful.

my grandfather who was full blood sisseton Dakota and I would travel cross country. Along the travels he would play his porcupine tape cassette very loud. When we would pull into a town to gas up he would leave the radio on loud, get out of the truck and everyone would look at us. At the end of the trip I ask why he never turn the music down and his reply was he wanted them who looked to remember We ( natives) still exist in our own land.

I always tell my friends, just because there’s a colonized imaginary boarder, does notttt mean they’re any less homegrown, nor that their culture or heritage belongs solely to the Spanish (which is beautiful too Ofc) ! So many southern tribes have intensely unique & beautiful various histories, stories, features, that too many are unaware of ! Grow with knowledge of lineage going forward, & let your spirit remember where you came from, your connection to the ground beneath will feel, to say the least, more comfortable 🔴⚫️⚪️☺️

Everyone is Native. Every person on earth is native to a place, even if they have moved to another land. If a Cree person moves to France, is that person no longer native? A person from China is native. A person from Spain is Native and yes...even a shockingly white person from Scotland is Native. To classify others or yourself as other than everyone else simply builds separation and offers the close-minded a chance to view others as less than themselves or even more than themselves.

I’m Chippewa from Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. This was incredibly powerful, it brought me to tears. Thank you for bringing indigenous voices to the foreground. This brought me so much joy, but also great sadness because indigenous people have been forgotten.

Kind of reminded me when they finally pulled down the statue of Edward Cornwallis a couple years ago in Halifax, due to the fact that the made the "scalping proclamation" that put bounties on the heads of innocent First Nation people who were living on their land, and paid anyone who would return a scalp of said innocent people's heads - all just to get them off our lands, so they could build their settlement by either killing us, or driving us out of our home. It put a smile on my face to hear that statue get torn down. It may not serve justice for all the crimes the colonizers have done to our people for generations, but at least people will remember Edward Cornwallis as nothing but a monster.

Irish heritage, first generation Canadian here :) I have a special appreciation of many First Nations teachings and even though my family is Christian...I identified as agnostic from a very young age, and from childhood onwards I had a deeper bond with the aboriginal spiritual teachings. I am a huge animal lover and loved the idea of a spirit animal when I was really small and loved the interest in the Earth as being worthy of our deepest respect, something I don't feel enough Christians practice. Love to the Earth, the animals, and all the people, and huge respect for our First Nations citizens and this band!

Holy crap...I thought I was the only one. I lived in Albuquerque for a year and went to the state fair. Saw my first native dancing. Burst into tears, gut wrenching sobs. No idea why and my friend asked me why and I couldn't put anything into words...the dancing, the vocals...all touched something in me. Now "supposedly" I have a native great grandmother but ancestry.com's DNA test put that right out...so I have no idea...but *every* time I hear/see this kind of art, I choke up.

Because Native music comes from our roots, mother earth. It calls to our subconscious, and touches something we miss. Something that our essence misses. It's also a reminder of the pain that my people endure. I started going to powwows a few years back and still cry and get covered in goosebumps whenever the drums start. I sometimes get that with some songs but to the same magnitude. There's some intense, primal, real with Native music. It's our ancestors reaching out to us. NATIVE PRIDE! ✊🏼✊🏾✊🏽

Too many white people think about native Americans like this, that they are a beautiful people with a beautiful culture.. i totally understand you mean well, I do. But by calling them beautiful, great, anything, you’re treating them as lessers. One culture or race of people should Never talk about another like that, I know you aren’t trying to be racist, but their culture isn’t for you, or for you to look at and deem beautiful, it was a way of life not for show. I also hear white people saying “I knew a Native American man, he was a great man” .. another example of racism, even though you don’t think your being racist you are because he in all likelyhood isn’t a “great” man he’s just a regular dude just like you are. And if he tosses his can of coke in the recycling and your talking that as a sign that he’s in tune and respecting his Mother Earth than you are quite the simpleton. You might think my example is funny, but Really. Why are you saying he’s a great man?? I bet he literally was just a regular nice enough guy, and your taking that as something else, instead of just being normal and genuinely nice to him you’re unknowingly isolating him by treating everything he does as “Native”

Same here. I always felt huge respect and connection together with the sadness of how deliberately they have tried to destroy these beautiful people. Its not even that long ago.
