Many of today's hunters are looking for solutions to extend their trail camera's battery life while out in the woods. Most of today's newer trail cameras provide a longer run time before needing a fresh set of batteries, however, many hunters like to use extended battery backup just so they don't chance missing that big one. A lot of the newer game cameras come with 12 volt external jacks so hunters can connect additional battery storage but many still do not. So what can hunters do if their trail camera doesn't have a 12 volt external jack? Well, as I describe in this video you can direct wire the external battery directly into the trail camera's battery pack!
Before starting this project there are a couple of important steps you must take. First, you must determine the battery pack voltage of your game camera. Second, you must wire a 2.1mm x 5.5mm female plug into the contacts where the battery pack meets the internal contacts of the camera. It is also important to match the external power voltage with the internal trail camera battery pack voltage. Voltage regulators of all sizes can be purchased to match the voltage requirement of your trail camera.
Here are a list of items you may need for this game camera project:
NOTICE: I was made aware by an awesome subscriber that Cuddeback cameras (and maybe other brands) use a 1.7mm x 4.0mm plug. Here is a link to an adaptor that will convert a 2.1mm x 5.5mm to a 1.7mm x 4.0mm. Thank you Joe!
Good luck with your game camera project and getting that extended battery life you've always wanted! Let me know if I can help in any way. You can always reach out to me at steve@digitalsouth.com.
