Was betting the HEDDphone was being cleverly hidden in Taron's Whiskey cabinet. Nice get with DMS. Now get Metal571 and you've got yourself a real stable of savvy reviewers. btw I tried the HEDDphone about a year ago and it's size was unbearable(Insert Michael Scott Joke here). If you want to feel like you are wearing an old time Leather Football Helmet without the facemask... then the HEDDphone could be for you. Wasn't blown away by the sound performance either. I guess I was either expecting too much with the sound or was just too distracted by the weight and discomfort to focus on listening

I certainly like such drivers as tweeters (Emotiva, Adam Audio), so the Heddphone is intriguing. Thanks for your careful description of its sound.

You forgot to mention HEDD drivers/Tweeters. The founder worked for ADAM before. HEDD makes exelent loudspeskers as well. I will sell my ADAMS and go full HEDD in the future.

Oh my god what I surprise of what happened as Andrew opened up the box only for it to have no headphone. Funny intro,caught me laughing!! DMS welcome to the headphone show. I'm sure you still have your other channel, but this has been something that no one was expecting. So personally I bought a 1266 Abyss headphone that requires a lot of power, an amp, so this headphone is no good for me. Nice review DMS! We need more funny intros like this!! WE got to laugh!! Anyway Andrew and DMS, keep up the good work!😃😄😆😅😂

Waited so long to hear your opinion that.. I couldn't' wait anymore :D I got mine just a couple of days ago and yes! It is not perfect... but it is perfect for me. I feel like I can literally BITE the instruments playing near my head (in some songs). Try "Killing Strangers" on these.

I find I really enjoy these. As you say not great for everything but nevertheless at times wonderful.Sadly I have one of the first models so the fit isn't great. As I also have LCD3s and LCDXCs with these I feel like I have a pretty good combination.

Not really. As the manufacturer says, pure class A operation remains when: Balanced 16 ohm load: below 500mw; Balanced 32 ohm load: below 1000mw; Balanced load of 68 ohms: below 3000mw; Balanced load above 68 ohms: almost all power is Class A Most of the headphones will always be driven with pure class A amplification when connected to the SA-1. It will always be class A for the LCD-X (20 Ohm, 500 mW = 130 dB). In order to drive Arya to class AB on SA-1 you need to damage your hearing at 124 dB with 1000 mW of power, because only at that point the SA-1 turns into class-AB.

I tried to like it but couldn't. Too little bass, veiled mids, soundstage that worked well for classical but was too huge for everything else, somewhat subdued treble (mightve been upper treble, idk), i think the best thing about it was the physicality of the sound and detail retrieval. If they can fix those things then I'd buy it. A diamond in the rough.

I use them for work with a iFi Diablo in the turbo mode. They're a great tool for mixing but I don't enjoy them. When I want to listen to something and go "oh wow" I put them on. When I want to really feel and enjoy something I go back to the LCD-X with Sonarworks eq correction.

I agree 100% on many of the things that DMS said. For the amps, I have the A90, and while it certainly has the power, I always felt that the A90 sounded "flat" and introduced a sense of a "Wall of sound" that isn't there when I amp it off something like my Burson Audio Soloist 3x, and it comes second only to my Susvara off my vintage HK-870 power amp. Jazz, blues, classical (Holst!), and soundtracks are truly where I feel the HEDDPhone shines along with music from artists like Philter (The Blossom Chronicles is a perfect example), Yosi Horikawa, Shpongle, and Muse. BTW quite clever, that intro was. :-)

Binaural...vinyl...recordings. How does that work? I thought vinyl is strictly mono.

lol, of course its not mono. the needle moves in either direction. left and right. also i have never seen a phono amp with only one channel. its always stereo. i would say the opposite is true, old vinyl recordings usually have an incredible wide sound stage. instruments and vocals are usually recorded mono, then spread wide in the mixing process. panned left and right etc.
