I'm an RN and learned in nursing school that WARM water is best for handwashing. If the water is too hot it can break down the skin's barrier and cause problems. For hot water to kill germs on a surface it has to be boiling hot for several minutes, which is clearly not conducive for human hands. Also, the soap does not need to be antibacterial or antimicrobial for general handwashing. In fact, antibacterial soap is no more effective than plain soap outside a healthcare setting. It's the actual friction created during handwashing that kills the germs. You must do it for a minimum of 20 seconds to be effective.

You also have to get your hands wet before you apply soap. This way the soap will work more affectively.

Ok so to answer y’all’s question about the temperature of the water it actually does matter the temperature because hot water kills the germs because of hot it is, but cold water freezes or cools the germs so yes you will kill some germs with soap but if you use hot water you will kill more and stay safe! It doesn't really matter that much what temp of water you use when washing your hands because its the bubbles from the soap that does the cleaning. But also hot water can be a little more sanitary and cold water is better for your skin.

so for a example (you wash the dishes "hand wash" anyways.. with warm soap it gets alll the germs off and gets it clean anyway thats why i think warm or hot water works better! thats my opinon.

Well about the hand washing, the soap does the main work but the water can help to get rid of even more germs. The hotter the water the more germs it will kill, most germs can not handle the heat.

I'm a cosmetologist and did a lot of work with the skin, here's what I learned! Hot water will dry out the skin, and cold water makes the soap less sudsy. warm water is the best choice because it won't dry out the skin and the soap will have enough suds to do it's job
