When walking the ground at Gettysburg, it's easy to become disconnected to the fact that the people who fought there had families and goals and their own unique personalities. Ronn Palm's Museum of Civil War Images is doing much to connect with the human side of this struggle through his amazing collection of Civil War photos. Here's you can take the names that you've read about or have seen on the monuments and put a face to them for an added layer of understanding of The Battle of Gettysburg.

It’s one thing to see their names on a monument or read about them in a book. But when you see their faces in a photo that makes them real and you realize that some of those faces gave up their lives fighting for what they believed in. What an amazing Museum. This one really is a gem. ♥️👍

Wow, how neat is all of that! It is really cool to see that there are faces and names to go with the soldiers that fight during the war! It is sure great what you do for us, the artifacts, the pictures, all of the history that you relate to us and show us his bar none the coolest thing ever and we all really appreciate it. Keep it up and there’s always you do a great job with all your videos and documentaries thank you.

Many gave up their lives and technically had no choice. People today don’t understand how people thought about their states of origin back then. Not to mention that the average Joe in the south did not really even have much of a choice after the war started if they were of fighting age back then. I always remember the story of two German immigrants that migrated separately one to NY the other to Georgia and ended up on opposite sides fighting against each other! My great Grandfather fought & died in the Indiana infantry, but I have no illusions if he lived or grew up in the south when the war broke out, he would have probably been fighting on the opposite side.

I was there for the 150th anniversary. Wow is all I can say. My mind was ready to explode from everything I was seeing and learning. To read about the Civil War is one thing. To actually go and experience it.. That is something way cooler.

As a Canadian, I have always been fascinated about the American Civil War. Sir, I thoroughly enjoy the work and heart that you put into your historical story telling. Actually the American Civil War was the bloodiest war the USA has ever fought! Over 750,000 soldiers died in that war/ combined total of both North& South! MARYLANDER here/ YANKEE! By the way our beautiful state flag reflects the divisions in Maryland .The black and gold represents the Calvert Family / UNION , the Red& White cross represents the Crossland Family/ CONFEDERATE. The flag was designed to bring both sides together after the Civil War! My mother's family came to the Maryland colony in 1643! Maryland was started by Catholics who fled England in the 1600's. Maryland became a colony in 1634! St. Mary's County! 🤔🤗🇩🇪🇨🇭🇺🇲💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

Mom's Swiss family came to the USA in 1812! They married into the Mattingly Family! The Mattingly Family came from England in 1643!

J.D.: Seeing the rows upon rows of photos gave me the same revered solemness when I first glimpsed Arlington Cemetery with Mom and Dad. Promotions happen quickly in wartime. Future lieutenant general Arthur MacArthur, Jr. was a lieutenant colonel at 19. More famously, Armstrong Custer was promoted from captain to brigadier general at 23.

Impossible not to get goosebumps seeing these photos and artifacts. These men gave so much. Hoping to heaven that we aren't breaking it apart again. Old white chick from Alabama who is grateful every day for the fact that our Union was saved. We're all better than the dreadful strife that's happening in our beautiful country. Visited this museum today. If you are in the area, you have to go see it. Ronn is such a wonderful man to talk with. He is sharp as a tack, and willing to answer any of your questions. He actually had a photo of a deceased family member from prior to the war.

I finally made it to visit Ronn Palm’s museum. I live about 3 miles from where Col. Charles Frederick Taylor of the Bucktails grew up. His grave is located in the Longwood Cemetery nearby. I was able to have a nice discussion with Ronn about the Bucktails. Thanks so much for sharing this unique museum with all of us.

Awesome museum. We went to Gettysburg last summer. I’m completely bummed out that I missed this museum now. We did and seen a lot but missed this one somehow. Seeing all those images is truly mind blowing. I’ve always been Interested in all American history, but the civil war the most! I absolutely hate that many in this generation either no longer know, show no interest or have a distorted or simplified view of history in general.

I've been to Gettysburg twice when I was young..and spent alot of that time at the battlefields with my family..and didnt realize the museums their in town..My return visit I will surely visit those..its been 52 years since I was their..look forward to it. Thank you guys.👍✌👍✌🇺🇸

I recently found an image there of my GGG Grandfather, served in the 53rd Pennsylvania. He was captured in June 1864 near Petersburg and spent 8 months (and survived) at Andersonville Prison. Awesome collection!

Fascinating. I'm not American but find this period of North American history so interesting. These guys are so knowledgable, dedicated, passionate and good storytellers. This episode really brings a human and actually quite sad element behind the names. Of course all war is sad but civil wars in general where it's neighbour vs neighbour, friend vs friend, brother vs brother, is a concept i'm trying to study more.

OMG…I can’t believe I missed this museum and l have been there several times with my son. Kicking myself, my great great grandfather was in the PA Calvary in Gettysburg and I was so happy to find his name.

WOW, AMAZING! I must see these museums! Kind Thanks for taking us here in this fantastic photographic historical library! I have a number of Civil War images that I’ll take there and one of my GGGrandfather in his late years. He volunteered for three terms in the Calvary. My Grandfather was supposed to inherited his sword, papers and metals but unfortunately someone else secretly got to them first. He told my Grandfather that he’d run through fire to hand Gen. Grant his sword he’d dropped from his horse and received a metal for his act. I also have an 1862 draft notice from Lebanon County Pa. Thanks Again So Much! DaveyJO in Lancaster Co. Pa.

Thank you for not letting the Civil War be forgotten, and the incredibly brave men who fought. You should consider contacting public school systems, or better yet, contact the Department of Education in D.C., to make your docs in Civil War history mandatory in the public schools system. Wow, wow, wow thank you Mr Palm!! Awesome museum. I live in the Pacific Northwest and have never been on the east coast. I hate to admit that being 60 years old but it is what it is. But I am adding this to my bucket list visiting these two museums. This is a great channel to learn from I don't watch it often but I am subscriber and everytime I watch your videos I am always impressed. When in Gettysburg my first stop is the Daniel’s brigade marker in back of the Eternal Light Peace Monument on Oak Hill. My ancestor was part of 2nd NC battalion assigned to Junius Daniel which was part of Rodes Division, Ewell’s Corps. Before leaving I walk from the NC monument on Seminary Ridge, across the open fields traveled during Picket’s Charge, cross Emmitsburg Road, up though the Angle, stopping at the 26NC monument!

Thanks be to those who work hard to put names to faces and faces to names and for trying to tell the stories of these individuals as best they can. We need to be reminded that these individuals are more than just statistics. They were real people with real lives who made real sacrifices, and their stories deserve to be told. God bless the men on both sides, be they Confederates or Yankees, they were all Americans.

What I like best about small OLD museum, they're cozy, they're personal and I enjoy the older displays where the little information card is handwritten in cursive with a real ink pen and not a ballpoint pen. Thanks to JD, Erik and Ronn Palm for this fine watch on American History.

My 2X Great Grandfather fought at Gettysburg as well as Bull Run with the Ohio Lt. Artillery. He survived, fortunately, and went on to become a country doctor. He died in 1942 or 1843 at the age of 96. One of the last surviving and oldest Civil War veterans in Iowa ( he moved there after the war).
