I've learned to throw my baitcaster setup with the reel at an angle or sideways like it was shown in the video. It just seemed more natural and less awkward to me, with way less backlashes and more casting distance. This video explains the mechanics of why casting this way is better. Thanks! I appreciate it

3:10 This right here, exactly explains why I haven't gotten a DC reel like the rest of my closest friends. Yes, it took them a week or two to get the basics down while it took me months of me going out every morning to cast and get it right. Now, I can cast my Zillion without even thumbing the spool(Mostly) because I've learned how to fine-tune it to my rod, baits and line choice.

Replaced all of low profiles with Daiwas starting a little over two years ago. The DC just wasn't doing it for me. I heard people say for a long time that the DC was better for bomb casting and the SV spools were better for stuff like skipping. My own experience has been that the SV system is better at both.

My advice, as a beginner with baitcasters who has a little experience now, to beginners, is to only side cast or roll cast until you've got that down before you try overhead casting, pitching, flipping, skipping, etc.

Also I like to fish braid, typically 20lb. Is this weight good for the reel or other and what is a good backing weight behind the braid? Thanks so much for any answers you can provide.

Well done although I wouldn‘t say that coiling line is a major factor (maybe with really thick lines) as it will be straightened by the weight of the lure during the cast. I never noticed coils when casting although they occurred sometimes as soon as the bait hitted the water (especially with Fluorocarbon which is a sign to change immediately).

Zero adjuster certainly isn't always perfect from the factory, they don't have engineers in lab coats setting up these reels. My Tat elite came locked down to the point that the spool wouldn't move. Zillion was better but always check em and setup like Ben showed.

Magnetic brakes really are superior. I just hate the constant tension, always feels like I could get 10 more feet out of it, when I really can't. The centrifugal brakes on my Curado's are a nightmare when its windy out though. I really need to pick up another Daiwa for chatterbaits and stuff that catch the wind, I had a Fuego CT and sold it because it felt too big to palm. The Zillions all look like that too, but maybe a smaller Tatula or something.

I took my annual bass trip to the headwaters last week and I was not getting much distance out of my Tatula reels. I hadn’t used them for several months. My experienced guide adjusted brakes etc. which didn’t seem to make much difference. Was throwing 2 ounce spinner baits and he and I were lucky to get 30 yards. Should these reels be greased regularly? I’m using fairly stiff Dobyns rods. Using the same rods with Lews Hypermag and one with a 13 Fishing they got 50 yards with little effort. Anything you recommend to get a bit more distance out of my Diawas will be appreciated! Thanks!
