I've became a left hand bowler 2 years ago today. I've watched a "gazillion" videos, tips, and suggestions on KZfaq and other mediums. This video gave me more information (info I've sorely been lacking) than all the others combined. I'd bowl so well with the guys, making small bets and winning pots, etc...185/190 average. Then, I would get in league, on different oil and bowl 160/170 and feel so frustrated. NO ONE told me where to start, what balls to bring or how weak or strong they should be. I sincerely appreciate this video and your help. Thank you.

If I had one piece of advice, to add to what packy said, it's: treat every house and every lane like you've never bowled it before. So, like packy said, start close to the gutter, get a read and move in/change ball accordingly NO MATTER WHAT. It's especially easy in league because you bowl there every week. I fall into the trap myself. Even if you are on the same exact lane, in the same exact house, using the same exact ball on the same exact pattern, it will play different. There are endless variables in bowling. It's what makes it fun, challenging and frustrating. The weather, when the oil was put down, the surface on the ball, how you are throwing it any given day, who you are crossing/bowling with, your mindset, what balls other people are throwing, how hot the oil is where it's stored, how old the oil is, the temperature of the lanes, the temperature of the building... You get the point. Every lane is different every time you bowl so do what packy said to start no matter what

I have a cool game mode for that. 2 players play the same frame. Player 1 has the first shot, and his goal is to get the score low, but if he misses the pins, it's automatically a strike. Player 2s goal is to get a high score. He only shoots the second shot each frame, and the last 2 in the 10th frame, if he can pick up the spare. Next game you switch, and the player (player 2) with the highest score wins. It's a fun game mode to practice spares, and it involves a lot of gambling. As player 1, do you shoot for a split to make it hard and risk a strike, or do you go for the 7 or 10 pin and risk a gutter ball?

@@AudunWangen how do you compare the scores at the end when one tries to get low score and one tries high score?
@AudunWangen
@AudunWangen Жыл бұрын
@@Glatzel132 When you are player 2, that is your game, so that is how you calculate it. So let's say you play two games. In the first game you are player 1. That means you take the first shot each frame, and the game ends with a score of 135. You left a lot of hard splits in that one, so your opponent couldn't convert all the spares. In the second, you are player 2, and the score is 160, because you converted most of the spares he left for you. He also threw one in the gutter, so that frame is changed to a strike. That means you win.

I love that you did this video. I'm an intermediate 200+ average bowler and this even reminded me of a few things. One, use to always start right and every tournament to get a read on the lanes. On house shot especially, it's easy to fall into, "this worked so good last time, why's it suck?!" Even if I'm on the same lane, in the same house, on the same pattern it will be different. The weather is different, oil could have been put down sooner, my bowling ball surface is not exactly the same ECT. So yeah thanks for reminding me not to be dumb and get a read on every lane, everytime. One thing I'd add is not having enough options is an issue but so is having too many. Especially having too many bowling balls!!! I have 20+ bowling balls... Doesn't mean I should bring all of them to a house shot tournament. I've definitely rolled in with 9 balls to houseshot tournaments.🤦 Never ended well. If I can't score with 5 good options... It's not the balls. Also, don't try to work on everything at once. I fell into a HARD slump for 6 months. Changed my fit, was working on timing, approach, hand position, lane play... Literally everything at once. Shot my first 300/800 then got into sport shot and realized I had a lot to work on. Tried to fix it all at once. Went to KC open with Luke/Angel Rosdahl and kniffen and 💩 the bed so bad. Had eleventy things going through my head all at one time... Don't recommend. This was way to long but maybe someone will realize their being dumb faster than I did. Good day✌️

Thanks for the tips. I bowled a couple games last weekend I always try going straighter with a solid ball first moving left as I go. It just wasn't there so I tossed that one back in the bag. Grabbed my asym pearl from where I left off with the solid for a few shots. That one was still picking up too early. So went to my sym pearl which gave me the length I needed to get to the pocket. After a 130ish 1st game with all that screwing around shot a 200 second game once I found the right look.

Very good advise you give here Packy. In tournaments when shooting on a specific animal pattern, it is so different than your house league shot that you will be lost if you are not doing this. I would imagine most PBA bowlers are pretty quick to recognize the patterns in a few practice shots, or are you ever made aware what pattern is being laid down that day? Would love to also see a video on the signals of when to make an equipment or "big move". So many times it is a tough decision after starting out with 250 or better to do either of these things. Great video though Packy.

I definitely need to work on my versatility. I only bowl 3-game league on house shot right now, but I'm a speed-dominant lefty so I can typically use my C300 Savage all three games at the 5ish board. Most I might have to move is to the 10 board, or ball down to Phaze4 (pin down). Trying to slow my speed down to get the Nova to work for me, but it's tough unless the conditions are just right.

You just called.out my Biggest issue lack of Versatility. From Practice on I'm up against the ball return, and I'm only comfortable rolling 17 to 10 or 20 to 13. Everytime I try and firm up and roll up the back of the ball I just can't and it just Rips left. Mean while 90% of league is rolling up 5 to 10 drives me insane.

@@TheHouseBowling I personally think that would be a GREAT idea !! It would also put you out in front of some other bowling channels. Ball reviews are necessary and great to have. But I believe you'd gain more views and subscribers with in depth instructional videos. Remember they need to be more thorough than others. Don't just speak about hand positions, ball speed, surface changes, etc. Actually take the time to show it. And you and Kris are two of the best at versatility.

I picked up a Black Venom a couple weeks ago. I think because it's new it's snappy down the lane, throw it further left than I do my Venom Shock. Once it soaks up some oil I think I'll be able to throw it closer to the middle. Been throwing it non stop and averaging between 192-196. I've tried to adjust my hand to throw it different ways but I've been bowling a certain way since I was a teenager. It just messes me up big time. So instead I move my feet and where I throw the ball based on how it's behaving. If I need something that hooks harder I go to my Hy-Road or Widow Ghost. If I need less I'll do my Venom Shock or my Pitch Black if I need even less than that. Waiting for the summer sport shot league to see if I can do better than I did last year.

I tried to play just on the edge to start with my benchmark but if you missed even a little you were F'd. So I changed balls and moved out and started playing the middle part of the lane and was doing well. Game 3 they started over hooking. So I moved back in with a ball that is smoother and less hook...... That was a terrible idea. I just couldn't make it work. Game 4 I started playing back out and moved like 7 boards from where I was before and started smashing it again. I wish I would have just kept moving out instead of trying what I did in that 3rd game.

But, I only have three balls, so if my hammer isn’t working on one lane in league I’ll use my Columbia 300 for the other (hammer is one handed the other is two) and then I have a spare ball. It just allows me to hit different kinds of shots. I’ll even use my Columbia for the 7 pin. I have the occasional slip up but overall when I’m in the game I get the ball where I want it. Although I get distracted easily

@@digicatt9320 Nice, I was just curious how well it worked. Some people who do it that way are very good and others not so much. Thanks for explaining

Hey Packy it’s gonna be my birthday soon and my dad said I could get a new ball. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on the matter. I’m a two handed bowler and i already have a 🟣 urethane hammer, a vintage phantom, a tropical breeze, and a plastic spare ball.

I would do with something versatile that has a little more hook like a track stealth or a radical rattler

Well it's not really a fix all. You need to make a good shot every frame to hopefully not leave a bunch of splits lol

Right place between 17 and 23. Ball speed 12 to 15 mph one handed no hook, and 17 to 20 mph two handed high spin hook. And don't change between house oil and sport condition the same day. (Now everybody knows how to play like pros.) Be careful, champions, many amateurs will win open tournaments with this old trick. Thanks.

Tournament over the weekend got lined up with the Bigfoot, then realized there was no miss room right as I slid past the break point. GB4 was starting its break about 12-18 inches before the down lane marker causing it to come in high. BW Ghost wouldn’t make the turn. Game 3 killed me with stone 8s and two splits. Missed opportunities…

I am not a lefty, but is there a reason you use so much axis rotation and tilt? Is it the lack of the groove, really make you need to create more angle yourself? As a right handed bowler I have worked so hard to be around 10-15 degrees axis rotation and keeping the ball forward to create control and a more predictable motion.

Try your best to make a strike, but try even harder to make those spares. Opens kill momentum

My ball reaction sucks on sport shots from every zone with every ball I have. The ball just never wants to pick up early enough no matter what surfaces I use. It's really frustrating.
