Just want to add that it's really important to look after your stuff if you want to keep it as long as possible. My phone is now 6 years old and not a scratch or crack on it, here are my tips: Put a screen protector on straight away. Always keep it in a case. Don't put it your back pocket and risk sitting on it or it dropping down the toilet! Don't walk about typing in to it and risk tripping over. Don't let small children have it at all. Don't walk the dog while staring at the phone, the dog may pull you and you drop it. I know people who've smashed phones in all these ways! Also, only charge it until it's full then unplug it, charging it all the time can be bad for the battery.

Ive been chained by debt and my spending for decades now it’s been depressing me for years. For the first time I feel positive that I can stop mindless spending and end the cycle of paying off bills just to run them all back up again a few months later. I need to be free of the stress. So glad I found this channel. I’ve cancelled all but one of my tv streaming channels and I’m not upgrading my phone that’s now paid off 💴 💴 💴

I’m so cheap that I pay for a second hand car for under £2,500. Bought second hand phone from giffgaff with a 3 month warranty for under £140. And I only pay £1 per week for data, mins and calls😅 The only thing that I need to work on is my food spending as I used to go out for food every week to meet friends😅

I love the the first point about TV its something I have been thinking a lot about recently. I realised I was constantly complaining I didn't have time to do things but when I thought about my day I'd always managed to watch lots of TV shows. Now I have been listening to more music and often just appreciating the silence and I have found I have so much more energy! I though I was watching TV as a way to relax when I was tired but now I'm realising the TV is what's draining me and by not watching it I'm more productive.

Ditto. I don't go overboard on my trips, but I do try to enjoy them without my usual restraint. The car payment one makes me chuckle - so many people have these big car payments that 1) could have been avoided by buying a slightly older car, and 2) you don't get anything back for all that payment. I have a friend who recently bought a car wayyyyy outside his price range (it's bad on many levels) and now he's struggling to make ends meet.

I have only just in the last week upgraded my iPhone to a 7 yes that right a iPhone 7 128 go. There are out there and I love mine so Mary get a 7 they do everything the 6 and 8 do. Just try and get the bigger memory. My package was unlimited calls and text no upfront costs which I negotiated with my provider and I could have has 25gb data but only opted for 10 and my off line consumption is within this ratio.. So go for it my lovely. Bless you two and may your Chanel go from strength to strength..🙏🏾🙏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Bev

How interesting you talk about juices. I stopped buying juices over 10nyears ago. I drink tap water. It is very dear to buy juices as most of them are full of sugar too. Water is the best. Pre planning meals is one of the things I do. In my budget I find myself having £50 or so left in my envelopes when the month ends. Thank you for your advice. Mary you should come up with budget recipes for us.

Great video, We fully relate to all points raised, really all points have been at one point debated and we do use water filters for all our tap water consumed more from a health standpoint but we think they turn out to be good value - our girls do like to drink juice so we do purchase 2Ltr pack too to have the option. Phone upgrades agree are a trap as is the insurance they try and throw on top and with a teenage daughter you do find it's a conundrum but a good safety case and screen glass cover will do it! I love your videos and shared this one with my wife 🤗 sowing the money saving seeds for a smarter life. All the best, Pedro

Hey Pedro, wonderful 😊. We much appreciate your support. You make a good point about insurance. It's yet another thing to pay for on order to supposedly protect these expensive phone upgrade. @@TheHumblePenny I believe costs are starting to creep up and is an area that can snowball, mainly from school expenses (A Level books, trips, days out with friends, driving licence at 17, preparing for uni, not having to wear school uniform). When younger, costs were easier to plan for and spread over longer periods such as hobbies like swimming, piano, parties.

We both got a Motorola Moto G6 in 2018 for less than £240 each. Both phones are still great and do everything we need. We have low cost, Sim free, rolling contracts. We'll probably go for the budget end of the smartphone market again when they need replacing. It's worth doing some research before buying at this end of the market, although Motorola tended to be in the top 3 in most budget smartphone reviews in the last few years.

I've not watched any t.v at all for at least 1 week. I work 6 days per week. The time I saved from not watching t.v. I've used to make a budget to get my finances back on track, prepped some meals, cooked some chicken soup from scratch, and listened to a personal development audio book on line. My ex husband wanted sky even though we really couldn't afford it and didn't need it. On 1 of my days off I need to cancel the t.v subscription. I get a very large bottle of juice and water it down but my new partner, who is from Romania, showed me how to make my own flavored water so now no shop bought juice. My partner is very frugal and i'm learning a lot from him on how to save money. Having the right partner helps! We do sometimes get takeaways or eat out but very rarely, usually once or twice a year. Most of the time though we eat at home because he doesn't like English food. He is teaching me how to cook some very basic Romanian dishes in bulk which we cook together in bulk when we both have a day off work. It really helps on a very tight budget and I'm able to save a bit more than I did before I met him. I feel truly blessed and am saving to go to Romania for my first ever holiday abroad, but my first goal is to pay off debts, then get a passport. This video is very helpful. Thank you!

Warning re 02 and upgrades!!! Agree completely with the phone upgrading and was adamant I was not upgrading the phone. My S8+ is working perfectly. When they rang U was very specific that I only want a sim plan and no contract. What I didnt realise was it was a "partner" company who 02 shared my details with. I then got trapped in a 3 year contract with clearvision communications. I am fuming and now fighting 02 and clearvision communications and neither will accept any responsibility for the contract which now doubled in the first 12 months and is binding until 2025!!! I will now never talk to any phone company when they call but go in to a network provider shop

If I do decide to buy a car I'm going make sure I do Uber as a side hustle. I almost joined the gym last week but decided to buy some weights instead. It cost the equivalent of 3 months' worth of gym fees. If I decide to take training to the next level I can subscribe to an online coach for 75-80% less than a gym per month! If I fail at the weights I can just sell them again.

The one I definitely got good with was the juices. I hated water, so I always had to drink some type of juice or drink. But I saw the utter waste of it so I started with tea or lemon and berry water and now I even just drink water. If only I can apply this same principle to the rest of waste in my spending. I will do it! 💪🏾

Love this video. Thanks guys. Wow thanks for the meal prep blog mary! Will check it out. I agree with mary on the deodrant. I'm not quite making my own yet but they are natural deodorants that work for men and women- Salt of the Earth lasts for 2-3 years. No chemicals or aluminium. I think the sim only contracts work out a lot better than the usual phone contracts. I've cut my monthly spend in half. Yes we only drink bottled water at home too...must switch to those water filters soon 😲

Great video. I like to make products too but have not tried a deodorant as yet. My halfway house between the conventional and making my own is a brand called Salt of the Earth Natural Deodorant. They sell it in Holland & Barrett but I buy the large 1 litre refill bottle from Amazon which is far more economical and it lasts for a very long time.

I think people just have to think out side of the box for FREE entertainment. As a student funds are very limited and have to budget everything. All we need is the internet now and the basic bills pay off first. Normally there are always FREE things you can do online one just have to do some research. Apps are very help now where there are so much FREE streaming application that you can watch online with ads for FREE without paying anything. I really enjoyed watching your video and learned a lot as well keep it up I also just subscribe as well.

I don't have a contract phone. I have a pay as you go phone. It works out cheaper for me. My mobile is one with buttons, not a touchscreen. I've dropped it a lot over the years and my screen is still great. I think my phone is about 6 years old, possibly older. I can't remember the last time I bought a new one! I go by my dad's principle, " If the old one isn't broken, you don't need a new one. If something breaks either fix it yourself. If you don't know how to fix it then learn how to fix it. If you learn how to fix it then charge others a fee for fixing stuff for them if you can't learn how to fix it then pay someone as little as possible to fix it for you." I have recently discovered I learn through necessity. I never used to sew, crochet, or knit but as soon as I had holes in my socks and needed a hat, scarf and gloves for winter and didn't have the money available to buy new I started to learn new basic skills. One of my work colleagues even paid me £25 for a sofa back cover that I made. I love doing art and craft projects!

Regarding phones, see if you really use a phone enough to justify a contract. I switched to a PAYG type deal with 1p Mobile (no affiliation). I spend so little I might even have to change that. Free WiFi is so common now that I hardly use any data and I make a lot of free calls and messages through apps like Whatsapp. I buy my phone outright and change it about every 2-3 years but I spend less than £200 each time.
@TheHumblePenny
@TheHumblePenny 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I like the point you made about the availability of free WiFi in most places. Especially as most of us have WiFi at home and at work. So the only need for ongoing data is on the move, which doesn't need to be that much as there are more interesting things to do whilst on the move like reading a book.
@caskwith
@caskwith 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHumblePenny Yes definitely. Most of my travel is driving so I don't need data there. When on public transport I read or listen to podcasts so again no need for data and anyway trains and coaches nearly all have wifi now if you did want it. I was just on a short city break and used some data for getting around, looking things up etc and I used 50p worth on my PAYG plan, not exactly breaking the bank.

If you can, and need one of course(!), buy an annual travelcard :) If you buy a monthly one or a weekly one, you're sinking MUCH more money than you otherwise need to be, plus, with annual, you get a gold railcard which gives you 30% off loads of tickets and off-peak train fares! :)

Humble Penny people. I wanted to make 2 points in regards to your saving money points in this video. 1 on the cheaper phone alternatives. 1 of my very good friends introduced me to a telemobile company called 'Realme' they make very good quality cheap android alternatives by all means have a look on their website they have a huge divers collection of phones. 2 the water situation... Please please please do not go out of your way to save all this money if you're gonna be drinking tap water. You'd be saving your wealth but deminishing your health. Tap water has a huge count of fluoride and other heavy metals which harm your body in worst ways that cheap pizza. Bottled water is up there on 'the bad charts' too because of plastic waste and water coming together with plastic particles. Your best option is a water distiller 💚

I buy my phones and keep them for a few years till I have to change. I don't have a phone contract, just a giffgaff sim only, and I can change my tariff every month according to what I may need. I also recommend Huawei (or honor which I have atm, I think it'd a Huawei spin off) I know there's controversy around the brand but it also means they're cheaper and before all that I had one and the phone lasted years. It even survived being dropped in the loo haha I only ended up having to get rid when I smashed it off the road by accident (I want to add I drop phones a loooot so it took a lot of falls before this one done it in haha!)
