Let me tell yall a hunting story. THP inspired me to take up turkey hunting this year after not hunting at all since I was a kid. I spent the winter aquiring gear, practicing calls, watching all the turkey tour videos, and listening to the podcasts - like I was in turkey school or something. I was wrapped up. I went out for my first solo hunt this past weekend, listening to Zack, Jake, and Nick on the podcast talk about roosted turkeys on the way. I'm thinking man wouldn't that be nice to have one roosted but I'll be happy if I see turkey turd at this point. I slip into some pine trees on the edge of a narrow field before sunup and post up at the base of one and almost immediately there's a gobble sounds like on the ridge across from me ... 200 yards tops. My heart started thumping and didn't quit as he proceeded to gobble on the limb repeatedly until sun was up. I said OK the guys prepared me for this. I pulled out the slate and gave him just enough to be interesting. Clucked. He answered. Yelped. He answered. Then I shut up and got ready. Thumb on safety. Heart in my ears. Just waiting patiently to hear him fly down. Well boys, I nearly soiled myself when the sound of wings came from over my head and three turkeys, who unbeknownst to me were roosted in the pines above me flew down within 10 yards to my right. My barrel was about 30 degrees left so I just froze as they came right in to me looking for that hen. I just knew I was toast. But somehow, someway I wasn't. They turned back into the field, satisfied, and I slowly repositioned myself on them. I could see now a hen, a jake, and a Tom who didn't seem particularly interested. I took the safety off and he bent over and gave a gobble that felt to in my head like it might bring the pines down on top of me. It was just awesome. He left his head extended out and I felt that 3.5" 12 guage bark into my ribs and I may have passed out for a split second but woke to the sound of flopping wings and may have been an angelic Ted sprinting through the field pumping his fists and a little devil Nick grinning in the choas I had created. Just wanted to share and say thank you for what you do.

I've lived and hunted in Indiana and just got my first Tom this year, 10 1/2 in beard that's 11 if you get the hair straight, with 1.4 Spurs. I feel like that isn't bad at all for my first. Congrats!

Can you make or do you guys have a video on drumming. Seems like it’s something you all key in on a lot. Are you all hearing spitting and drumming and just saying drumming, do they drum and not spit, do they only drum when they are strutting. I have heard it once with some birds at 30 yards strutting, spitting and drumming but am I missing these sounds from further out? Great videos and would like to hear some more on this.

I had one Saturday double & triple gobbling, cutting me off. He hung up, I kept making moves. I threw the kitchen sink at him. Different calls, Jake caulking. fighting purr, slapping the ground with my hat & he was hammering to it….Finally it got real windy like it is there, I made another move. He went silent……..then the constant wonder, did I bump him?!?!? I’m sure he was old because he was right on border of private/public.

He said hes out there strutting then he said he’s strutting in the rain ? Then he said yeah lol naw he’s out there with an umbrella 😂😂😂

Really good video. The thing is perplexing me anymore is every video I watch now everybody talks about hearing the birds drumming the Hunting public hears them drumming Shane Simpson hears them drumming. The cat man hears them drumming that was never talked about in the last two years, how come all of a sudden, everybody can hear them drumming I’ve had birds for me and I don’t hear anything and I’m really interested how you can hear him drumming with the wind blowing like that

You guys killed that bird but one thing I've noticed with another of the turkey hunting and calling that I don't think is utilized enough is the purr, especially when they are hung up close. That is a seduction/ contentment call that I have used over the years to kill a lot of hung up big ol gobblers!! Good hunt keep it up and try utilizing the purr, it's deadly!
