Not really as at that point you'd really love if you weren't a spy, allegiance to your country may not be as important as such a position in another. How many people move to different countries to live in, do you think they have great loyalty to their birth country? I'd work any other job then be a spy, spies get tortured and killed in the most brutal ways when caught and they always do at some point, like in this story, they "asked" him to go back one more time even though they all knew that he'd be in extreme danger and probably dead and it is hard for him to say no, could even be forced at that point.

eyalz It’s not a myth. I first heard that story from people who served in the Israeli Air Force during that war and said that they personally would not have been able to find their targets without Cohen convincing them to plant those trees. The video doesn’t go in-depth enough, but the reason why it was so valuable for Israel was that most of those bases were in the middle of the desert with no trees for miles, so being able to have trees as a landmark to spot out in the middle of nowhere made finding them so much easier.

You should read about Eli's brother's story who was also an moassad agent. They both were unaware of the of the other person's occupation but at some point Eli's brother found out about Eli and tried to persuade him to leave Syria. A heated argument insued but to no evail. A really intresting and heartwarming story with a bitter end

Just want to say I’ve been on holiday to Israel and went to kiryat shemona which is right next to the golan heights, we went on a 4*4 jeep past the destroyed bunkers which the reinforced metal bars still remain and next to every single one of these concrete hideouts is afew large trees. And Israel claims their most famous spy was considered for a top position in the government he was supposed to spy on, I wonder why. This is why public information from secret services is always uncertain and so interesting. A comparable story are Israelian nukes. Whether or not they have them doesn't matter, since they are already the ultimate weapon as a deniable story: your enemies fear you for them, but your allies don't hate you for having them.
