Yo for anyone who doesn't understand why this was "Bad timing" it's because around 2-3 hours before this video and comment was posted at a Madden 19 tournament in Jacksonville Florida there was another mass shooting. Currently there are 4 dead, and 11 wounded. The shooter is supposedly dead, but I'm not certain of that. Infographics also just confirmed that this was not correlated and that this was scheduled a week ago. So despite what happened, this wasn't an event they thought would happen a week ago. So just enjoy the video guys, hopefully this whole situation is resolved, and I hope this clarifies for people who don't know what has happened.

*Competitive/professional gamers* are the modern version of chessplayers that you could watch without getting bored. As long as you know how the game works. I can't really consider them as athletes, It's a disrespect to the ancient greeks, when people considers these *professional gamers* as Olympic athletes, because the Olympics is literally the celebration of human physical capabilities. And no, I'm not a hater, I'm also a gaming addict myself, and has been supporting the E-sports for over 7 years.

The definition of an athlete is “a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.” So to be an athlete by definition you have to be proficient at a PHYSICAL activity or exercise. Last time I checked I’m pretty sure just using your brain and fucking up your sleep schedule isn’t that physical, now I am not saying that pro gaming (which is a preferred term amongst most people) isn’t strenuous on your mind or body, but the only time gaming strenuous against your body is when you prefer to game over sleep. Now for a very select few pro gaming is their job and if they stay up all night you can see it as like working third shift, but in the end it is said gamers choice to stay up all night when they can just sleep.

For people who say “Why do they stress about video games” it’s not their choice to release adrenaline and other chemicals into their body. Video games are actually very stressful when you actually UNDERSTAND what’s going on. People might see Rocket league as “Car soccer” but to other people who actually play and understand the game can see how deep the games mechanics and core understanding goes.

ROCKET LEAGUE! THE MOST UNDERRATED ESPORT. I'm a little biased cuz i run a rocket league team, but It is something you can't watch anywhere else. I think they meant to say that “e-athletes” are under mental and physiological stress. I mean, if you consider it, just like sports, in eSports you’re going to have spectators, the amount varying, which can make a player nervous against their preferred game or opponent. Because of this nervousness, you can consider there might be a small tidbit of “physical stress.” Some examples include twitching, your hand begins to shake, you can start to sweat due to a reaction known as “fight or flight.”

Love the video and comparison, but you also need to have in mind that athletes get pay more because they have higher chances of injuries, they travel more and spend more time away from family. I think the timing of this video is a good chance to look at one aspect that regular sports and esports share. With the tragedy today, underlying mental illness aside, many e athletes are using various substances to "gain an edge". Did it contribute to what happened today? Who knows. But most humans can't play for hours on end, deal with intense competition and stress without some chemical assistance. If esports is to be taken seriously they also need a ped testing regimen. More so to protect these kids from themselves than to protect the integrity of the sport.

I get that a lot of gamers aren't ripped, but you shouldn't underestimate what physical nature there is in video games. Comparing video games to chess is a false equivalence. Maybe if you compare hearthstone, but smash bros melee and starcraft require insanely fast button inputs and the players do have to worry about legitimate injuries and fatigue that come with playing.

You're comparing weightlifting and running to button pressing, and muscle soreness/exercise-induced fatigue (which is a result of by loads of vigorous exercise) to hand cramps that are caused by pressing too many buttons. It's comical... and I really can't understand it. I've seen so many people talking about how gamers are "technically" athletes but idk man, I just can't agree with any of that stuff. *Read everything* The problem is that people put the word sports into E-sports - if it was called E-competition or competitive gaming the hatred would not be that high. 2. thing is, that the people who already play in a sports team (football and more) and have a dream to become big dont want any other sport to get the spotlight and maybe ruin their career so they trashtalk E-sports and say its not a real sport saying things about how the olympics title given to e-sports would be a disgrace and stuff. E-sports is growing rapidly and idk if its the hype or any other reason BUT stay and listen! Imagine the next Olympics, and there would be a second tv channel for olympic esports. and both is free to watch and they would be played at seperate times so you could watch both if youre interested. No one would be left out and both have the same chances for being seen as a Sport. poeple could watch what they like and it would be great for both sides and viewing numbers. Nothing would happen in daily life if E-sports would be seen as a sport. it would just be one more type of it besides a handfull of popular sports. Think open minded.

I'm sorry but participants of video game tournaments are NOT ATHLETES...THEY ARE PLAYERS. I am getting tired of people trying to make things into more than they are. There is nothing wrong with a competitor calling themselves a "Player" when they are participating in a tournament. Athletics deal with a degree of "Physical skill"...people "playing" in an electronic tournament doesn't fall under that criteria regardless of how much stress it puts on the body.

The money figure is really outdated. Right now professional gamers in League of Legends and DotA2 are most prolific with almost all professional League players making 6 figures ranging from 120K-3million dollars. There are quite a number of players now making 7 figures now from salary + living expenses. DotA2 gamers make most of their money from winning/participating in the invitational tournament that had 2014 (9.3million prize pool), 2015 (16.8million), 2016 (19.2mil), 2017 (23.2mil), 2018 (25.5mil), with highest portion of the prize pool given to the teams who ended with higher standing.

People didn't get the memo tho, bevise it is listed as the 10th biggest SPORT in the world. You could say they use their body to hit the ball, but that seems like a weak reason to qualify it as involving more physical activity than eSport. Especially since eSports are more physically straining, showing how the body exerts itself more.
