There's an international treaty prohibiting placing weapons in continuous orbit. While communications/spy satellites are OK, lasers probably aren't (I don't feel like Googling to figure out).

Power systems are too big. Starlink satellites are very small, that's why they're so cheap. They're planned obsolescent. They'll die or fall out of the sky within 10y and be replaced because they're cheap. A space based laser satellite would have to be up there for decades. A lot of what made Starlink cheap doesn't work under that requirement.

My guess is they wouldn't even use them against NATO military camps but against Kyiv. Land based launches will come from deep within Russia to not be intercepted by low altitude flight patrols. At that point the U.S will have an idea where the Launch came from and can triangulate it's trajectory. A missile with a shotgun defense capability akin to a NET or WALL of Explosives in the air would create that iron dome. Basically... Russia already lost when they didn't have anyone competent in their technology division. Attacking Ukraine is their last ditch effort for a Russian foothold. If they lose Ukraine (which they're almost at the precipice) their diplomatic and geopolitical power will be moot. The U.S has been busy with their military industry complex.
