I was a seal, class of 201. I spent my days sunbathing and catching fish. Occasionally we would all pile on the beach on top of each other to keep warm. My team and I were proficient swimmers. We would always train evasion techniques from hunters who wanted our fat. That’s what being a seal is.

I remember in basic the exhaustion was so intense my body adapted so I could basically sleep while standing or marching in formation. It was just enough to get rest but my body was on autopilot and my brain was somehow getting the messages on what I was supposed to be doing and my brain made it happen. It is a pretty common phenomenon. The same thing happened when deployed. Being so exhausted you feel like you're going to die but you have a job to do. There is one lingering thing that has remained due to all the sleep deprivation in the military: I can sleep on command/any chance I get and I can sleep anywhere and under any circumstances.

It's mental, and all about how much you want it and are willing to sacrifice for it. Granted you don't injure yourself in the process. Recruiters even said so "it's not the most fit people who succeed, but often the people who don't look like it, but who have the mental fortitude to push through and not give in".

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Obviously it's the physically strongest. The mental part is easy. Some people are just born stronger than others and this is just a way to filter them out, that's it.

@@underthehood6206 This is not a powerlifting championship, where the victory is gained by numbers in the table. This is an exhausting series of training meant to break you apart, being constantly yelled at while crawling in the cold mud under the whistle of flying bullets. You think just being fit is enough to overcome those tests? 80% participants quitting - were they weak physically? Don't think so. It is obvious that you do need to be strong, and, in fact, much more than the average, but thinking you will pass just because of your shape is pretty naive

Closest I’ve gotten to being a Seal was I served in the Marine Corp and went through Scout Swimming School, boat teams, cold water, a lot of swimming days/nights sleep deprived. I loved it . I wish I had known I could have requested to get into Seal Teams as a Marine. Mentally/physically I was prepared, yet I know the % of success, but to me the honor . I'm a retired Army medic. Our Navy and Marine brothers are well beloved. I don't know if the seal training is actually like this, but if it is, this is NOT very smart. Taking care of the human body and mind is no joke. Just 11 minutes into this video, there were countless ways to get injured or killed. The U.S. military is all about safety. At least, by the books. At times, leadership does some off the book stuff, but whatever. It is what it is.

Sttright away i thought of conditioning you need to spend months if not years conditioning your body even when you are already starting off with a decent level of fitness, so your body does not just flake out from the pressure you are having it subjected to. Never mind the mind state you either have it or you don't from life expierence prior.
