Today I am checking out some more Babymetal. This time with the Tales of the Destinies song. This song was embraced by my prog senses in a positive way. See what I think about it, and thanks for watching!

This is indeed Babymetal's tribute to Dream Theater. It was inspired specifically by the song "Dance of Eternities". Mike Portnoy's son showed him TotD and he gave it the Dream Theater prog metal seal of approval. Koba worked on it for a number of years before he was satisfied with it, and it went through a number of iterations, including some where it and "The One" were a single song. This performance at Tokyo Dome is the one and only time that they have ever performed it live, although they have expressed interest in interviews of giving it another try since it didn't go perfectly due to Su's in-ear monitors malfunctioning, so we live in hope that one day they will perform it again. I personally regard this song and this performance of it as Babymetal's single greatest musical achievement.

Good one, thanks! I wasn't very used to prog metal before discovering BABYMETAL. And, to be honest, I was like WTF the first times I listened to this one. But then, I watched this unique (literally) live performance and all made sense. Now, followed by "The ONE", it's one of my favorite BABYMETAL moments. 🤘🦊

Noice! The piano ending is actually a mini-intermission that rolls right into “The ONE”. Originally one very long song split into two, with “The ONE” being a fan tribute song, and a show closer for Day 1 of Tokyo Dome show (2 days of 55K sold out shows). 🤘🦊

Good reaction. I haven't seen much Dream Theater - I watched a couple of songs after hearing this and learning it was BABYMETAL's homage to them. I think they could benefit from adding choreo to what they do too. 😉😇🦊 As you have been told, the piano at the end continued beyond where it faded here and was the bridge between this and the next song - 'The One' which was originally another part of this song that was split to become a separate song quite early in the writing process. 'The One' is a sort of Prog ballad dedicated to the fans. 'Tales of the Destinies' and 'The One' were the finale for the first night at the Tokyo Dome in 2016, their biggest solo shows to date with 55,000 people two nights running. To give that some perspective they just finished touring the US and I read that they played to 110,000 people over those couple of months in 20 to 30 concerts .... they played to 110,000 people in two nights at the Tokyo Dome.

that piano in the end - really smooth transition to the next song (The One). Thats why its faded in this video. Because there was no pause between songs.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🌟 🌟 🌟 Dream Theater's 'Images and Words' is one of BABYMETAL producer Koba's favorite albums. Here's what he said about the development of 'Tales of the Destinies': "Upon opening the World map of Metal music, this song as well really made me stop and consider how are we going to deal with the genre of Progressive Metal represented by such bands that I love such much like Dream Theater. It took about 2 or 3 years to put it into the form that it is in now. As you can imagine, there were a multitude of hardships to overcome to do so. That goes for the performance side of it as well and we had to put it through countless, repeated changes to its arrangement to finally get it where it is now.". The Tokyo Dome Red Night concert (September 19th, 2016) is the only time that 'Tales of the Destinies' has been performed live. That version is slightly different from what's on the album, but pulling it off with only two guitarists on stage still impresses me. A link for this song was sent to Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy. His Twitter response: "Actually LOVE the new @Korn… and am BLOWN away by what you've played me of @BABYMETAL_JAPAN! "Tales of the Destinies" is full-on PROG METAL".

The band learned the song and the girls learned all that complex choreo and then they never performed this great Prog Metal song ever again! They're very hard-working like that. 🦊🤘🤘🦊

Thanks for coming back with more BM songs and this time with another special song from their 2nd album Metal Resistance, and this one is even more meaningful, this was performed previous to last and ending the show. It took several years for KobaMetal (the producer and mastermind of this group) to create this progressive metal song along with "The One" which is the next song, he's a Dream Theater fan. This song was performed only one time at Tokyo Dome 2016 with 55K fans witnessing this special and one of a kind live concert, people from all over the world attended this two nights performing their entire catalogue by that time from 1st and 2nd album, only song they didn't performed was From Dusk Till Dawn. There's a lot of crazy transitions and dope time signature changes. Is one of the hardest song they ever performed, even some troubles suddenly happened when performing this but fortunately they made it through like a real pro. I always love the reaction over that piano section with the cutesy dance moves. The piano outro is no other than "The One" melody announcing the next song with this peaceful bridge. Both songs were originally part of the same piece but it was split in two parts. The One is a song dedicated to all of us their fans, we're The One, and that should be the perfect follow up, although isn't a progressive metal song, more like hard rock ballad with progressive rock. The Kami Band members this night are: Mikio Fujioka (R.I.P.) and Takayoshi Ohmura on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. Remember according to the lore all of them were send to help the girls with the metal sound. This time you're watching their regular costume back then wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint representing those spiritual entities. Glad you liked this one, there's a reason for this performed only one time and it should stay that way for everyone who witnessed this special moment in BM career. I think you're ready for this next suggestion: - Babymetal Death live at Legend 1997 held in 2013, GuilhermeCait got this with the intro translated in the description box. Please remember that we are -NotACult- 👀 See you next time🦊🤘🔥

Nice reaction. This is my all time favourite BM song and performance, mainly because this is the only live performance of this song. I love the technicality of the music and the girls are just spot on with their singing and choreography. It’s hard to nail down one favourite song of BM because it tends to be whichever one is playing at the time form me. That said, there are definitely stand out performances that hold a special place in my heart and Rondo of Nightmare at Budakon 2014 is definitely up there. Keep going on the journey and see how they’ve progressed to the mature young ladies they are now.

The faded piano is not an ending actually, is a transition to another song.

I had never listened to prog metal before, and at the beginning the song also seemed very strange to me. But then over time I understood it and now it is one of my favorites. It’s just unusual for those who have never listened to this before.

In my opinion, this is a musical train wreck with some BABYMETAL sprinkled in. It's no big surprise that this is the only time they ever performed this song live - it must be hell for the Kami Band! Needless to say, not among my favorites but it is somewhat better than a few others that BABYMETAL has. But to each their own. Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!! KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

Tales Of The Destinies:- A tribute to Legendary progressive rock band "Dream Theatre" from America 🇺🇸. Babymetal only performed this song once which is at the Tokyo Dome in Japan 🇯🇵 to a crowd of 55000 fans over two nights which total of 110000 fans. This song genre is Progressive Metal and different from "Dream Theatre" which focuses more on Rock. That night Su-Metal ear-in monitor malfunction just as the song is about to kick in, Su-Metal has to relied on The Kami Band tempo changes to be able to synchronise with The Kami Band and both Yuimetal & Moametal. Considered Babymetal most technical song and complex composition. As seasoned pros, Babymetal did a superb job that night. Those who love progressive music will definitely appreciate the technical aspects and precision of the Kami Band and Babymetal complicated choreography. The piano melody bridge will lead to the last song The One from their Metal Resistance Album. Progressive Metal at its best. Only done once live at the Tokyo Dome. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. Thanks for this reaction 12:40 a lot of people don't know about music, so they can't judge how impressive it is to be able to do something in music. Sadly it was only performed ones, in 2016, but also: one of the members in the Kami band was: guitarist Mikio and he had his almost fatal accident at the of 2017 and turned fatal less than 2 weeks later and died in early 2018. RIP Mikio. He was the mentor of the bunch and teacher at the university. I don't know if this is the reason, but he was the most knowledgeable about all the time signature changes, etc.

Great one to react to - although it does segue/continue into "the one" (maybe next reaction if you can find the Tokyo Dome version?) - it sounded chaotic first time I listened - but still great. Now I love it - good reaction! :D
