Alan Partridge is possibly the greatest UK comedy character ever created. The middle aged middle class wanker act is just so good. Saxondale is massively underrated though!

Coogan was very publicly outspoken about top gear’s Mexico episode. Rightly so! The resentment here in clarkson is palpable.

There was a limited studio audience present for this, as it was filmed after restrictions were eased, so there were 70 audience members in the studio for this. Majority of them probably not Steve Coogan fans.

Coogan is very much the same as Clarkosn, he just loves the BBC’s liberal left wing toss pots pay cheques so much he won’t admit the fact. If you can’t see that Jeremys’ piss taking of all things classed as xenophobic are with a firm tongue in cheek then you are a prick.

@@deanbrown2015 I disagree (must be a prick), I don't think Clarkson is being subversive at all in using demeaning language about people, he's not playing a character - that's how he actually refers to people. Unlike Coogan. who uses Partridge and other characters to lampoon the ridiculous smallminded-ness that real people like Clarkson wear as a badge of honour.

I guess that puts a stop to my thoughts that Partridge and Clarkson are the same person. Before now, I'd never seen them in the same room together. On a side-note, I'd always secretly suspected that Coogan had based Partridge on Clarkson.

He straight up had a parody of Clarkson in Saxondale. Said himself he wanted to get Clarkson for the part at first, but then decided against it because he wouldn't be able to stick the knife in as much.

It was after the comments about Mexicans. Although Clarkson's input in that was perhaps debatable (as in he didn't say much)- perhaps more he had the editorial power to cut it, and he didn't.

It is interesting, as Steve and Jeremy are polar opposites in their political views - Steve is very left wing, pro Labour party, Guardian reader which is where my politics align with, whereas Jeremy is more conservative, centre right, anti Guardian style person. Jeremy here knew not to do battle with Steve, he knew he would be outmatched, and good for him.

I do hope Steve Coogan creates more characters and doesn't concentrate on Partridge all the time. Partridge is funny but people will grow tired eventually. Look at Leigh Francis. He pretty much does Keith Lemon all the time. Funny at first, but Keith hasn't been funny in years.
