Thanks so much for posting this. It's my go -to for reference as I learn in class. I watch, at 1/4 speed, until I get it. PS There's a Ken van Sickle video, fencing, in Berlin, about 5 years ago, at age 80! Remarkable. Steve/Narrowsburg

Excellent demonstration in a lovely setting too. I'm only just starting to learn this form, this video is still too advanced for me at my stage, but it serves as wonderful inspiration. I've arrived late to the party of learning sword forms. I'm 61 now and I've only recently learned the Yang 32 sword form. I can see there are several movements from the 32 form that are also within this CMC 54 sword form. However, there seems to be something special about this particular sword form, I don't know what it is. It just feels a bit like falling in love!

The movement is very clear, but I recommend following Ken's teacher's videos: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h56JraR9yK2xpYU.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/d62qdayFu7e6dXk.html

@@itinerantpoet1341 You, or anyone else for that matter, will NOT learn much of anything from Cheng's videos, without verbal instruction. Ken's instructional video on sword, can help bridge that gap. Gotta look for the positive in things ...

@@mnpli You are right, I decided to not attempt learning this form from KZfaq and I've just started learning from a teacher who also trains us in the principles and how to feel the touch, through basic sword play drills. These are aspects that cannot be learned form a video. I can see this being a lifelong affair, just like Tai Chi. I may not finish in this quest to learn it well, but I'm glad I started it and I'm enjoying the practice.

@@mnpli Hi Mario. I agree absolutely with you. His form instruction is very good. I've his sword videos and having been with Ken in the last CMC forum in Italy, I've a great respect for him . However wee must regard forward and see the essence of it.

@@josemartins7299 Are you from Europe? are you learning CMC tai chi chuan, in Europe? Good-nice-great. But, IMHO, there are no teachers of Cheng's tai chi chuan in Europe, that are higher then let's say- green belt level... So, enjoy Ken's (sword form) instructions as best you can, and try and not to get too caught up on his abilities or lack of. :)

"Scoops the moon from the sea bottom" at 1:55 can be done with a little fajing (focusing) upward with the flat of the sword. This puts energy into the opponent's blade to create the opening for the thrust that follows. Stepping forward with the right foot like Cheng in this video will give you extra root for that application: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h56JraR9yK2xpYU.html With the right foot already forward, you can more easily take that extra step toward the opponent to land the thrust. (In real fencing you'd be doing it significantly more quickly, so it's good to already have advanced.) In the linked video, even though Professor is doing it softly, you can see the upward motion that finishes his movement, and gives the movement its name.

Too rigid!
@TheJooves
@TheJooves 7 жыл бұрын
He's rigid because he's demonstrating the form and calling out the posture names as they are performed.

No, he's overly rigid becasue he's doing it from outside instead of from inside, form over flexibility.
