You are really good, Dave, at discovering ways to improve an image and then using the TK8 plugin as a tool to accomplish your goals. Your TK Friday workflows are never a cookbook recipe that treats every image the same, but rather a creative interaction between you and the images to find and bring out the best light. I particularly liked the burning and dodging in this one and how it added your personal touch to the image. Although, most of the other adjustments were also your personal interpretation of what the image needed as well, and the final result definitely reflects your "good eye" for digital development. Keith's image is a great starting point, and your series of subtle adjustments definitely brought out some additional beautiful light and dimension.

I enjoyed watching this episode and, as always, learnt a great deal from it. As a result, I am getting less intimidated over using the TK8 panels. Keith’s image brought back happy memories of my childhood walking the Derbyshire dales and the Peak District - a far cry from my present home in the Capricornia region of Queensland Australia where the colours are quite different (as are the rock formations, flora and fauna). Keep up the good work and thanks.

Hi Dave, Great lesson! I'm in the process of updating my workflow on a larger scale just now, shifting the focus of my editing from LrC more to PS. At the same time, I'm trying to figure out what switching to linear profiles at startup in LrC will do for my photos. I've been using TK panels for quite some time, but not too excessively. This should change in the new workflow. This tutorial is a perfect guide and inspiration for me. I am very grateful for it, it came at the right time. Friday is a good day for me since I came across your videos.

I haven't used the Vibrance/Saturation mask selector in the past as I wasn't comfortable in knowing the best method to use it. This all changed in today's video. Anothe great video Dave, thank you. As I’ve been spending more time learning how to create masks, I’ve been looking for guidance re adjusting a mask after it’s been created eg perhaps I missed an area. Also, if a sky mask misses the sky seen through many tree branches, how do you compensate for this? Thanks!
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom. You can Select the Sky and then use Photoshop’s Select and Mask to help refine the mask. For a mask that needs some basic work for refinement you can use the Edit Mask feature in the TK8 Multi Mask Panel like I did in this video. You have the dodge and burn tools as well as the black and white brushes to help you to refine the mask.

Really enjoy TK Friday, I have a question that I have been meaning to ask for some time, today you reminded me again when you used the edit selection panel. In the edit selection panel what is the purpose of the zone selectors, I have never seen you use them and when I experiment they just appear to replace any starting selection. If i wanted that I would just go to one of the other panels and export as a selection.
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 жыл бұрын
Stephen that is a good question and to be honest I don't know what they are to be used for. Because you are right, once you click on a Luminosity Mask you loose your zone selection. I will try to remember and ask Tony Kuyper why they are there. In the meantime, maybe he will see your question and comment...

Hi Dave I forgot to ask. I have a landscape image and I want to increase the saturation and the brightness of some of the grass. Which of your tutorials will demonstrate this. Hope you can help.
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure which one at the top of my head Brian. I would try using a Hue/Sat Adjustment and bring up the Saturation to the amount you would like on the Green areas. Then put a black mask on that layer, which will hide the adjustment. Then I would use a Color Mask to isolate the Green Grass and output to a Black Mask Painting Through a selection and paint the adjustment on. I would start out at around 30% opacity and build up as needed. You could clip a Brightness /Contrast Layer to that layer and pull up the brightness just on the green grass. I am sure there are different ways of achieving the same result but that is one way you could try.

HI Dave. I have been working through this tutorial, which by the way is great. When you started working on the sky you selected Luminosity mask, "Mid-tones 1" and in the colour grading tool you selected mid-tones and moved the slider to the left to darken the sky. If you decided that you should have used or wanted to try luminosity mask "Mid-tones 2" would you have to delete this layer and start again. Or is there a way to go back and alter the settings. Or would you create another layer using the Luminosity mask Mid-tones 2 and then you compare each one together. Once you have created a layer, how can you open it up again to alter your settings. Hope you can help. Regards Brian
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 жыл бұрын
I think I understand what you are asking Brian. You can go into Layer Mask Mode on the TK8 MultiMask Panel and change out the Luminosity Mask to any mask that you like. Layer Mask Mode is a great way to experiment using different masks and I use it all of the time for that. I will try to demonstrate how to use it more on future videos. By the way, it is the Icon right under the MY CHANNELS Icon in the MultiMask Panel...

A quick question for Dave or the collective wisdom of the group: Does the TK8 panel work alongside Lumenzia or does it supercede it? There are so many Photoshop add-ons, and I'd like to begin working with the most effective and user-friendly among them. Dave's clear-eyed tutorials for TK8 make the panel look very attractive to a newcomer.
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly 2 жыл бұрын
I have never used Lumenzia but it is a panel for Photoshop and it works with Luminosity masks and I am sure it is a fine product. I have been using Tony Kuyper's Luminosity Masking Panels for years and I can't say enough good things about them. The TK8 Plugin for Photoshop with its new Color Grading tool and all of it's different masking capabilities are quite a help to my Photoshop Editing Workflow. In my opinion, I think it is best to decide upon one panel and then just commit to learning it. I know that I have become a better Photoshop editor since I started using TK products many years ago. That is my two cents worth.

Hello Dave, I love your video, but I'm encountering the same problem over and over again. I am following your steps exactly but this is what's happening: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hZuPYNyY2M68e2g.html Do you know what is going wrong?

I think you are using an older version of TK8 Multi Mask. Tony made an update to correct this problem it is TK8 Multi Mask Beta. It should solve your problem. You should have received an email for it. Check your email to see if it is there. If you can't find it you can contact Tony Kuyper here: goodlight.us/contact.html Also there is a brand new version out now, it's TK9 with a lot of new features. Watch the beginning of this video where I talk about it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b91ni7aLrqrFZYk.html Once you get either the TK8 Multi Mask Beta or the new TK9 Plugin for Photoshop you should be good.
