I got to see them 3-4times late 70s early 80s! To this day people wonder why I like the Kinks. Just give them a listen ,you might discover what I did back in my high school days !

I was 11 when this came out. I got the album, there was an advertising sheet for the VHS in it. I sent my mother all over Long Island and Queens trying to track that tape down for my birthday. Every Record World, TSS and Sam Goody. No one had it. Finally, Mr. Cheapo's in Mineola ordered it for her. Even at there commercial peak in the early 80s, they were still kind of obscure. I wasn't able to find the Return To Waterloo movie from 1983, until the age of the internet 20 years later.

What a flippin great live band they were, never seen this before the whole package , exceptional song writing, performance of all concerned esp Rays brilliant fronting and Dave Davies is a superb craftsman on guitar. All in all this is REAL talent in abundance.

To make great music in the sixties and do it again in 1979 with their Low Budget album was wonderful. It was one of my favorite albums in high school.

I was lucky enough to see them in 79 always loved them . So many great bands from that time and they had some of the best music I think the king they really were amazing but to David's Brothers I mean wow how creative

@@007JHS I cannot say they are better than Zeppelin or The Beatles. The Who, sure. I like them much better than the Stones, but you can't argue with success. It's such a tight field.

@@phillbr51 It doesn't make much sense to compare them with Zep - very different bands. The comparison with the Beatles makes more sense, although even there they are significantly different. Apart from anything else, from Revolver onwards the Beatles were purely a studio band, whereas the Kinks were always a performing band and so recorded songs which they could reproduce live and didn't rely on a huge amount of input from a talented producer. For what it's worth, because it's all subjective, I think the Kinks are superior to the Beatles and reckon I can justify that statement if asked to.

And I do keep up with the times I am comparing them with my two favorite live concerts right now at this time if you ask me the next best one is the creep live by Radiohead, and that incredible song by Lewis capaldi someone you loved what a set of pipes on that guy! i remember getting this album in 1980 and really digging the period correct hard rock lead guitar, so different that i just figured it wasn't even dave davies playing, and then the critics hated it and i didn't know what to think or say after that

The Kinks were not underrated. They were one of the top 5 groups in that music arena. If they would have gotten here before the Beatles, they would have been in the top 2 as well as the Dave Clark 5

Always puzzled by the US's adulation of the Dave Clark 5. Here in the UK, nobody ever rated them much - seen as a bit of a novelty act.

Sure, there is a difference, especially these days, in American and UK tastes - US tastes being a lot more, for want of a better word, conservative than tastes in the UK. But this is really about tastes back in the 60s, when the States pretty much went for anything British because it was fashionable - over here the Dave Clark 5, Freddie and the Dreamers and, for fuck's sake, Herman's Hermits were considered total lightweights, not to be taken seriously - especially the Dreamers and the Hermits who were just manufactured outfits playing pop for pre-teens. And if you're trying to claim some kind of superiority for US tastes, then I've only got two words to say "Hair Metal".

Licks, lyrics, attitude and kick drum fun. You couldn't ask for a better show in the late '70s and early '80s. (Think they influenced Fee & The Tubes? Duh.)
