Also a good tip for your plant inside the decorative pots. The inner pot make a hole either side at the top of the pot and put a looped cable tie in each one and it acts like handles to easily pull them out of the pots :)

Advice if you don’t want to go outside to wash the roots or you can’t go outside to wash the roots: get round coffee filters and put a bunch of holes in a round plastic take-put container. Have the dirty water filter through the coffee filter. This will help keep the vast majority of it out of your plumbing.

@MsDragonfire1992
@MsDragonfire1992 2 жыл бұрын
I find going straight from soil to leca works really well.and those roots change to water roots. It's moving from leca to soil that is harder as the plant has water roots and has to slowley acclimatise to soil so it has to stay moist and not aloud to dry out for a bit bit without causing root rot at the same time which can sometimes be difficult.
@TheLecaQueen
@TheLecaQueen 2 жыл бұрын
That is true. Moving from leca to soil, the potting mix has to be kept alot more moist just until the roots settle in the soil.

Thanks for your lovely comment. I always feed my plants regardless of the season. They are indoors and still growing they always need food. That is one of the indoor plant myths that has been perpetuated over the years that I feel might not be the best for our plants. Happy growing.

Then, after cleaning the leca with water, are you also soaking the leca in this prescribed solution? I live in Australia and love your videos. I would like to try using Leca instead of soil. I don’t want to buy the semi Hydrophonic kit but prefer to buy the Leca, the nutrient n the cloned solution separately, Where can I get them? Where can I get the Leca pebbles in bigger amount? I would need much more Leca because a lot of my plants are already a bit bigger in size. I had a look in Bunnings but I don’t think they have them.. Also, I went to Office Work this morning and asked them about the plastic scrap you mentioned in one of your other videos but they said they didn’t have them, never heard of them. If they did maybe long long time ago, they said. When did you get the free plastic scrap from Office Work?
@TheLecaQueen

Hello, thank you for watching. Some Office Works shops have the proper sheets but it seems most do not. I get mine from Amazon. I will give you the link. The scarps I was referring are the scraps from when they laminate documents and stuff like that. I suggest you get your leca from a hydroponics shop. In most cases if you buy a small bag it ends up costing a lot more than buying the 50L bag. Some hydroponics shops would have the nutrients as well, if not you can get them online. ✅ FULL RECOMMENDED LIST OF PRODUCTS: 👉 kit.co/thelecaqueen

You can wash your leca and store it. I would recommend soaking it for when you need to use it and not having litres of leca having been soaking for weeks on end. I would imagine bacteria and other nasties might start growing on it and affect your plants.

Do you think it’s better to buy plants that are medium size-like 6” pots for best transition from soil to leca? Or 4”? What is big enough to be well enough established but not so big as to be too acclimated to soil?
@TheLecaQueen
@TheLecaQueen 5 ай бұрын
I think it really depends on the plant and the state of the roots. I think that is what the real issue is. I transitioned small African Violets and peperomia and the smallest ones did not do well. Same sized Hoyas have no issues. So I would say if the roots are robust enough the plant will survive. But if small this roots like peperomia, I would get a bigger plant with a more established root system.

do you get root rot with the standing in un aerated nutrients (air pumps ) ?
@TheLecaQueen

No. When I do get root rot itis because I put too much nutrient solution in the reservoir and drowned the roots for some plants but root rot is not a problem.

Dear Nora, I feel so blessed that I have found you... Could I please ask you: would it be alright to use PUMICE instead of LECA? And if so, would I have to change smth in terms of potting, watering or fertilizing? And that is because pumice is so cheap in my country (Hellas). Dear plant people, any insight would be valuable. THANKS A LOT!

Silly question and I don’t know if I’ll be able to explain it correctly. Here goes- how do you keep plants from pulling out of leca, especially if their a vine, or maybe top heavy? They don’t seem like they’re very stable in leca? Any tips or tricks? I would love to convert over to leca on many of my plants, I just don’t know how to stabilize them? I hope I explained that correctly? Thank you ❄️💚🙃

really the more and more i see about leca the more i really want leca. Basicly everything i ''dislike'' on being a plant parent has to do with soil. soil usage indoor is a huge mess, repotting is a pain in the butt and an even bigger mess. its also really heavy to transport all that new soil all the time instead of just reusing leca. got some pest? well repott again and use some new soil and make a huge mess again. and you also cant just use soil... you kind of have to make a huge science out of it by creating fancy soil mixes using like 10 different ingredients and ...storing 10 bags of ingredients in your house and... i dont know. the more and more i think about it, the more i come to the conclusion: soil is just made for outdoor plants, living in actual soil in your garden and alike. i m so tired of cleaning the entire house all the time just because i need to repot a plant or 2. in return, that makes me not wanna repot it because i know i have to clean the entire house afterwards and its just... jikes i m pretty damn sure, i will just buy a huge bag of leca soon, and order some fertilizer and then just stop buying soil and slowly transition everything to leca.
