"Coaches are hired to be fired", this axiom was unfortunately confirmed when Jerry Jones fired my favorite coach of all time, Mr.Tom Landry. At the times. I was not at all pleased by the way he put him out to pasture. But like a great historic organization, Coach Landry will always be remembered as the foundation corner stone, where the success rightly rested and where the blame was put on. Jimmy Johnson was a worthy successor who's accomplishments speak volumes of America's team. Especially that trade that basically pickpocketed the Minnesota Vikings, LoL. LC, as always thank you my friend for putting so much work into your quality presentations. God bless you!

Great video once again LC!!!! The main thing I remember while watching that '92 team was they were the first team I saw that not only had no weaknesses but were dominant in all aspects of the game. They just didn't make many mistakes. Their defense was criminally underrated to this day, despite getting 9-Super Bowl turnovers. It's hard to explain to fans who weren't around just how special that team was, and we knew then. Great Job!!!

One perfect trade and a coach that was great at evaluating talent and getting the best out of every player. Then the dynasty began and if not for a couple EGOS we had a real chance to win 4 or 5 superbowls in a row. When there was no cap no free agency Mr. Jones bought us the best. We were 2 starters deep on the O.L. and D.L. had the best coaches and players we could buy. Draft picks and players thats playing your hand perfectly

I don't know how anyone feels about Jerry Jones but for about two decades the vitrole he's gotten from the fans and media has been brutal at best. People tend to behave like he generated 3 Superbowl championships. Is he too involved in the day to day operations more than any other owners yes! Lol. He said "I own the team so I'm going to be involved in the teams operations" lol . Hey he has continued the relevancy to a much stories franchise. If you think about it he had a hand in drafting some great players not including the 92 - 95 dynasty Dez, DeMarcus Murray, Tyron Smith, Zack Martin, Tyler Smith, Sean Lee ( imo one of the greatest tackling LB I've seen) Dexter Coakley CeeDee Lamb, Micha Parsons, DeMarcus Ware, Dalton Schultz, Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliot, Tony Romo, Marion Barber, Jay Ratliff, Jason WittenI think people still have resentments that he pretty much forced Jimmy Johnson outta Dallas. Has he made mistakes yes he has, yet no one can deny that he has kept this franchise thee most talked about football team in the NFL and perhaps thee biggest fan base in the NFL

At that moment it was the right move for Minnesota. Those Vikings teams from 1987-89 were the real deal but just needed a running back. None of those 5 players were going to help the Vikings. Of course the Vikings front office didn’t think Jimmy would cut those 5 guys for draft picks. They wanted Walker that bad but wasn’t thinking about the future. If they win the Super Bowl in 1989 or 1990 it wouldn’t have been a bad trade. Jimmy just made the right moves afterwards. He still had to make the right picks and he surely did.

I remember in 89 Jimmys draft order was Aikman, Stepnoski, and Daryl Johnston. A lot of people forget that the Rams crafted a similar deal for Eric Dickerson. Unfortunately, they blew the picks. Jimmy was so in tune with the college game because he had recruited a lot of these players. Fortunately Cleveland got in the mix for Walker when Kevin Mack got into his drug problems and was suspended. Jimmy was able to play that against Minnesota and put them against each other extracting the maximum price from Minnesota.

There’s a lot to criticize Jerry Jones about, Lord knows I’ve more than partaken in my fair share, nevertheless, his firing of Landry isn’t one of them. Jeff Pearlman’s book has a good rundown of the situation. By the late ‘80s Landry was washed up. Many if not most fans wanted him gone. As did Bum Bright the former owner of the team and former GM Tex Schramm. They’d been trying to respectfully nudge him out for a couple of seasons, but Landry wasn’t taking the hint. When Jerry bought the team the worst kept secret, if you can even call it that, was that Landry was out and Jimmy was in. Rather than accept his fate and graciously fall on his sword, Landry skipped town and had to be hunted down on a golf course. Even then Landry didn’t make it easy on Jerry and Tex, he made it as painful and uncomfortable as possible. In short, there was no way that Landry’s exit was going to be anything other than what it was, a dysfunctional, uncomfortable, chaotic divorce.

1) Great video as usual 2) Add up Walker's yards from scrimmage from the USFL and then add them to his NFL yards from scrimmage and then see where he ranks on the all-time list. It's very high- 3rd last I checked. 3) It was great trade, but even better was what Johnson did with trading those picks for more picks. 4) But th best thing he did was allow his staff to analyze every pick ever made in the NFL since 1967 and then sign them a value- which allowed Dallas to have a huge edge in knowing what the real value of each pick should be. (until the word got out and then every team knew).

Now just about every NFL team is trying to copy this trade. I remember when it happened and I was thinking that it was going to end up as a disaster for the franchise. Good point! I think what those early '90s Cowboys teams did was go against the status quo. Remember Jones was an oilman before owning the Cowboys so he wasn't a part of the boy's club. Johnson was a college Coach who never coached in the NFL before. So they were not set in the traditions of the league. They thought outside of the box. Because they weren't preprogrammed to follow the rules. That was a special time bro! I don't think we will ever see that again.

I’m excited that you presented the facts, That Jones and Johnson came up with that value chart on Draft Picks, (used to this day) because everyone will judge a players worth, putting their bias, and will rate a player increasing a players value based on those biases instead of looking at the facts and scraping away those biases. So sick of these weekend warriors (Mel Kiper) that will take money from agents to promote the agents players. Humm I wonder who’s interest Kipers supporting.

Of course it was. It took 4 years, but what a blockbuster. Starting in 92, Dallas won 3 Superbowls in the span of 4 seasons, something never done before. It took Coach Landry longer than that when he started his tenure before they even won 1 in a row. But not taking anything away from him. The 90's belonged to the Dallas Cowboys without a doubt. We finally got our revenge on the Steelers and beat them in Superbowl XXX. Larry Brown was named MVP with 2 key interceptions. That makes Dallas have the most DEFENSIVE Superbowl MVP's in history. Chuck Howley got MVP in SB V on the losing team! Randy White and Harvey Martin were co MVP's when they demolished Denver in SB XII. Great memories of all this LC and thank you for bringing all of this flooding back into my mind. Keep the content coming!!!

This is all we have now, memories of greatness. At 45, I at least can say I lived through the greatest (in my opinion) era of NFL football (1984-1999). Overall sports doesn't take up my time like before, often it becomes idolatry if we're not careful. I enjoy the memories, but to know the LORD Jesus Christ is where true contentment is found. God bless you all.

Redskins fan here. Hated the Cowboys with a passion. With the last of the three SB wins under Gibbs, there was a sense of concern that the Cowboys had sprung back WAY TOO QUICKLY. I believe Michael Wilbon sounded the horn about this in a Washington Post column. Since worrying about the Cowboys was only second to rooting for my Skins, I tried to convince myself that the Cowboys were still years away from doing anything remarkable in the post season. But I knew almost immediately that I was going to be wrong. This led to some dark days for me. In fact I stopped passionately following the NFL as a result of the ridiculous speed of the Cowboys’ reemergence; I remain somewhat distant to the league to this very day. I would end up cursing Herschel Walker and the Vikings for breathing life back into that Cowboys corpse. Excellent video.

@Hibbs4Prez I remember when the Skins beat the Bills in SB 26, and I was thinking about how the Cowboys are going to be in the SB the next year. You could see it coming, unfortunately. However, it wasn't just the Vikings that helped them. The 49ers and the Cardinals also did as well. The 49ers foolishly traded Haley to the Cowboys, and the Cardinals let TE Jay Novacek go in Plan B, only to get swept up by the Cowboys.

Surely made you proud to be a cowboy fan around 92which you have to stick with them through thick and thin. Who else out there and misses the commentators during the games. It always sounded like they were pulling for Dallas. Sometimes they actually made the game on CBS. Pat summerall and John Madden

Great video, man, as usual.. you make the most compelling interesting videos out there.. it's just THAT good.. what a time to be a cowboys fan back then.. it was so crazy.. ppl don't understand back then it took a long time to build a team because there wasn't free agency, unlike today, where you can be great 1 year and terrible the next and visa versa.. I will say free agency KILLED this dynasty.. I truly believe with all my heart Dallas wins 2 more SBs if not fir free agency.. aaaaand they 4 peat had jimmy Johnson not been fired.. that's just my opinion.. theg became too relaxed and undisciplined under Switzer.. but there's always 1 thing that gets me all these years later, is that they basically gave up on WR, Jimmy Smith. As much as I loved Alvin Harper, Jimmy Smith was one of THE best receivers of the 1990s. I know he had injuries and different things early on which led to his release, buuuuut if they could've just stuck with him, imagine a Michael Irvin Jimmy Smith duo??? How dominating would that have been, because they never adequately replaced harpers production when he went to Tampa Bay
@thelogicalcowboy
@thelogicalcowboy 2 ай бұрын
First of all... a great post. Secondly, Jimmy Smith was our first Moss of the Jerry Jones era. If Smith didn't get injured he retires a Cowboy legend and Dallas wins in 94 vs the 49ers. Fun fact tho. We could have gotten Rocket Ismail as well. At the time the Rocket was one of the most electrifying players in College history. Rocket didn't turn out to be what Smith was. But who knew back then?

@thelogicalcowboy woooow man!! I wish I could just sit back and talk cowboys football with you, bro. Lol that would be awesome 👌 🤣🤣 but you're right we missed on jimmy Smith by prematurely letting him go in the expansion draft (I think that's what happened lol).. annnnd of course the infamous moss debacle, which I totally understand why they didn't, coming off Irvins leagal troubles in 95/96.. but Kevin Williams, although a good player, was never Alvin Harper or Jimmy Smith..

Jerry Jones unprofessionally fired Coach Landry on a golf course. Basically, Jones told Landry who'd built the franchise through winning for nearly 30 years to stay on the golf course. Coach Johnson made Dallas winners. After nearly 30 years without a Championship I tune out salesman Jones.

Even with this trade, it's possible that they don't have a dynasty if two plays in the 1988 season go differently. In Week 1, the Cowboys were trailing the Steelers by three, and had the ball around the Steeler 5. However, Steve Pelluer didn't get the play number right, and he rolled out to the wrong side and threw an INT. Then, later in the year, the Chiefs were trailing the Steelers by six at the end of the game. On the last play, Chief WR Kittrick Taylor was wide open, but DeBerg barely overthrew him. If the Cowboys and Chiefs win those games, the Steelers would have been 1-12 going into the last three games of the season, and they probably end up with Aikman. Dallas would have had a tougher time winning titles without him (unless they end up with Favre or something, although Jimmy Johnson actually wanted to make Steve Walsh the QB).

The 92 team was a GREAT team. If you do your research, you will find that the 1977 team is the greatest team the Cowboys ever had. #1 on both offense and defense. Defensive POY. Rookie of the year. And they only gave up 25 yards net passing in three vs Super Bowl. Doomsday II at its best. The 92 team had 4 HoFers. The 77 team had 7.

Here’s something for you Logical Cowboy. The #4 factor. Roger Staubach wore the number 12(4x3=12). Troy Aikman wore #8(4x2=8). In addition to this both Quarterbacks had 88 and 80 as receivers. Dak Prescott wears #4 Jersey he has an 88 but no 80. Jerry and crew need to get a #80. In addition to this Dorsett wore the #33 while Emmitt Smith wore #22. 11 down and 4 down as far as numbers. Follow the formula and the sSuper Bowls should come.
