Them was very similar to the Animals. The soulful voices of Van Morrison and Eric Burdon are so parallel. Both were phenomenal groups.

I think they were far better singers than Mick Jagger

@@joeyhuebner10 technically yes and I’d say Van was better but not Eric Burdon 😂. They never had Micks Danger and charisma or performed as good. People forget now how much of a rebel Jagger was seen back then.

The Yardbirds come to mind. Jeff Beck was their lead guitarist at the time and both bands had about the heaviest sound going that early on. Makes the Stones look like lightweights.

This is a wonderful video. I'm super-happy these videos survive, they provide a window for those of us who didn't grow up in that time to see what it might've been like for the kids who loved this music. I mean it looks like the parents had to chaperone! That's gotta suck. I love the smirks on the teens' faces when Gloria starts. And that dad gleefully clapping along, god bless him! Great share :D

I am almost 70 and lived through this great time in music. But, I am also glad to find these gems on here, 50 plus years after seeing them, maybe. Some of the concert footages of the groups as they first started out are classic now. I never knew Van Morrison was in this group at the time.

I wonder who (no pun intended) did the windmill first.
@chriscampbell9191
@chriscampbell9191 9 ай бұрын
@@eddiee123 Keith Richards did it first, though apparently it wasn't an actual stage move. When preparing for a show in London -- which the Who attended, apparently -- Townshend saw Richards do a windmill like motion with his arm. Richards was apparently either messing around or warming up his arm for playing. Townshend thought it looked cool, so he adopted it as a stage move. This guitarist in Them probably is trying to look cool like Townshend. I'm sure other guitarists during the mod era did the same thing for a while.

Pretty well every band in Australia played the amazing 3 chord Gloria back in the 60s and even into the 70s. The single flip side was "Baby Please Don't Go." What good value for money that was! Mystic Eyes not so well known but a great tune too. Pure excitement sound as shown by the audience reaction, especially at the end of Mystic Eyes. Even the old guy couldn't not get into it.

Its near 3 am as I write this... Feeling a bit lonely, maybe... I noticed, one day, that after watching The Walking Dead... that driving through town at all the people moving about... from here to there and back and such. The "living" in so-called real-life are as-if the dead hordes from the show. No fucking difference. None.Today my friend taught me to play GLORIA on the bass while he played guitar and sang. I felt so cool. So. Fucking. Cool.

@@QueenFan12 way way after the 1960's. Mid 1980's. He had his own business. I guess he was an electrician. He also did contracting work in the building trade as a spark. He worked on and off with my Best friend's father who was a plumber. I met him one Christmas Eve briefly as they were heading out to the pub and me and Chris were going into his house. He's very tall...that's about all I remembered about him. This was in a town called Bangor which sits at the mouth of Belfast Lough about twelve miles from the city. That's where I grew up.
