Glad you like it, it looks cool. Think I would have removed some text from the dial if I was going full on mod mode. But as you say that strapoholjc will keep you busy for quite some time and at half the price you can’t go wrong!

I built myself one. Bought a seestern 62mas replica and ordered the right dial from aliexpress. If you got a basic watch tool set it's an easy switch. Now my seestern looks like a legit seiko reissue. It looks like a 1k watch now and it looks so good it is a keeper.

I have my dads original 62 Mas which is in a very good condition. He bought it 1967 I think. The one you presented is very similar and nice I have to say, even if it is not 39mm (perfect size for me). It would have even been better without the x mark I think. Enjoy swimming with it ! Mine does not like the rain...too old ! but it's OK. This is my favourite watch, which reminds me the good times with my dad.

Yeah, namoki has great parts and good communication. I bought from them a while ago and will definitely buy again for my next project.

One thing that really adds class to the original is the polished chamfered edge of the case between the top and sides. Only Seestern does that with their homage, afaik, though it's a smaller chamfer.

Fun video. I built my own 62 MAS using parts off eBay. Someone is selling the Heimdallr 62 MAS case separately. I used a black date ring NH35 with a Mil-Spec dial and sword hands. For just a little splash of color a red seconds hand.

The Seiko 6R35 is a superior movement to the NH35, its better finished as well as the 70hrs power reserve compared to 41hrs. You can pick up a secondhand SPB now (without metal strap) for what you paid for that fraken watch. Your viewers need also to remember the fraken watch value will tank on the secondhand market because its effectively a fake. My advice would be to buy a Seestern if you want a good quality inexpensive 62MAS homage that will also hold its value better than any fraken watch.

I agree if I am worried about power reserve I’ll get a quartz. I think 40 hours reserve is plenty for me. I have never had one stop while wearing. The NH35 is bulletproof and cheap to replace. I have many builds all are NH35 or 36 builds different cases and dials.

Fair play on the build! My only put off is the stand out lume pip on the bezel. Also two of they features of the original is the diashield tint of the case and the bezel insert.

That is ultra cool. I liked it best on the uncle Seiko strap. Made it look even more like the original. 👌

Love it but how come so many scratches? One pretty severe at 5:10. I would asume these were made by you wearing it before the review but it looks well used. Other than that, very nice work, both Brandon and yourself, this is now for quite a while my no. 1 watch channel!

Im right in between picking up a spb143 ...your "niggles" about the watch are exactly how I feel about it ... after all its $1000. Here is my thing...isn't the answer to not wanting to pay the cost of a genuine product always going to be buying a replica? Ethically how is this any different then snagging one from China even cheaper? Should I save myself $500 or get the real thing on principle? Great discussion excellent video as always..Cheers

I too love the 62 mas Russell, but if you paid £550 for this build , why not buy a 2nd hand spb051? I know the 051 is 42mm but it's just as good as the 143, and has a better bracelet. I've tried tons of bracelets, and the 051 looks amazing on a bond style nato. Overall I'd rather have an original 051, with diasheild and a totally seiko built watch. The 051 indices are way better than the 143 too, really capture the feel of the original. Whilst this build is nice, it's still classed as a mod , and not a gen seiko. Also the nh35 movement is not as good as the 6r15 either. The 051 is the first general reissue apart from the expensive sla 017. I would have thought the mod would have just the lume pip, without the triangle too, even san Martin and others did this . Seiko didn't even offer this with the new 143 range, and only offered it on the sla models. If seiko had made a 40mm version with just the lume pip, thin bezel,and a sunburst dial , and good bracelet with a 6r15 movement, for say 1k, they would have made the best selling divers watch ever .
