I was saved just over two years ago and have been studying or reading the Bible almost every single day. Even starting a diploma in Christian ministry and theology and auditing the Masters Seminary lessons with no real intention of being in the ministry full time. On the first of March I heard the call into ministry which shook me to my core. I was terrified, honoured, exited and humbled all at the same time because of the responsibility it entails. I literally had to stop myself from crying because if the understanding of this responsibility. I have never been more sure of anything in my life that this is where I will end up. It became even more concrete after reading lectures to my students chapter two as Dr Lawson has previously mentioned. Please pray for me, for the church in Australia and that I will never lead anyone astray. God bless and thank you for this channel!

I know plenty of old time small Baptist church preachers that have/had high school educations that know more about the Bible than I've seen some people with a seminary education know

38 years old. Family of six. Full time job. And now called to preach. Seminary is literally not an option financially nor practically. I will have to make due with the resources at my disposal; which, with the internet are quite vast. Oh Lord guide me in the way you would have me go.

Whoa, that's a little weird. I've been feeling a drawing to immerse into the Psalms. I just got stuck in a Christian book shop indecisive about getting a Psalms/Journal combo book. I prayed with no reply so I remained as is and came home, sit down to view the tube and this is 1st on my feed. At 47 with 30 of those substance abusing, I thought I'd click on it anyway. I know James wrote about the indecisive man being unstable (um, yep). Actually I don't have ask anything, I just wanted to appear i have something going with God, I have insane pride issues. I just wanted to share how God is working, its only little, but God is so merciful to me, sometimes taking my next breath is a mercy in itself. Glory to God for His precious word nerds (with respect Dr. Lawson, God bless).

Psalm 119:99 "I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditations." The Master's seminary is not the be all and end all of theological education. If a man is called to preach than God will prepare and equip him for the work.

I deeply respect Dr. Lawson's opinion about the need for biblical seminary however, seminary can be extremely expensive. If it is so necessary for every preacher with only a few exceptions, why is it out of reach for aspiring preachers who are poor? This is a genuine question. Master's has several classes on KZfaq which is great but it's far from a full seminary experience. I'd love to hear something about this.

Not to mention the cost of living in California especially if you’re raising a family. It’s not so easy to just pack up the car and move to California. The cost of living is 43% higher than the national average, on top of the cost of seminary. Not a knock on Dr. Lawson or Masters seminary, but that’s reality

Some of us are 34 years old, called later in life, working part-time in a small church (under 50) with a full-time job, mortgage and family with kids. What good does it do to make us feel inadequate with videos like this because we can't abandon the lives and responsibilities that God has given us?

I've gotta say yes. Every preacher needs to be a scholar, especially in light of all of the false teaching today....and the plethora of academic-related attacks from those who don't know Christ. A preacher needs to be well-studied. My MDiv is absolutely invaluable. Looking for a way to do a Ph.D.! My first Master's was in music. People still tell me, "you don't need to go to school to be a musician." Well, the world is full of popular entertainers who have a poor understanding of music, b/c they aren't properly trained at all.....and ministry is full of people who are not properly-equipped for the task. Like the speaker says here....if you don't study, "you don't know that you don't know." (Dunning-Kruger Effect) If you do something, LEARN HOW TO DO IT first. :) There's tools in school that you won't get anywhere else. Raw talent made it possible to have my music gift refined in music school. The Holy Spirit's training and my willingness to respond to the call made it possible to have my calling refined in seminary.

I believe that the most important thing you need to become a fisher of men is the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the call from God!! To be able to handle the Word of God? Do you really know what you are saying? If the Word is Christ Himself, for John says, " the Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory as the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth" then how can we learn to handle Christ? God will first draw you to the Bible and cause you to cleave to Himself and He will be your teacher. You will want to do nothing more than to be at the feet of Christ listening to Him speak just like Marry who chose the more needful thing, not like Martha, so taken up in the preparation of the things that were to be done. Spending much time with the Lord in prayer, being put through the fire to be refined and made a useful instrument in the Lord's hand, is what makes all the difference. If God has called you to be an oracle, He will prepare you just as He pleases , with or without seminary. So if you have a burning desire for souls, be much in prayer and if also God has called you to fast, with self denial, trust in the Lord and He may do wounders you would never imagined. Don't lose heat if you don't have the means to go to the seminary. Can God not do all things? Is there anything to hard for Him?

If preachers are really needed why not teach and make disciples instead of charging people to learn how to preach? People are willing to give up whatever or leave a job to learn but teachers are not willing to teach for free. Teachers keep their jobs while people have to leave theirs. The sacrifice is the time invested to learn not what comes out of our pockets. Not everyone can affrord seminary school so thats why we have so many preachers who preach and learn as they go and sadly some interpret the Word wrongfully. Do teachers and disciples still exist? Did it become teachers and students now?

I agree, a man can devote himself to self studies and pray for God to bless him with wisdom and understanding and be used by God just as much as one with a seminary education.

Is say formal seminary is awesome if you can afford the cost and the ability to just put your life on hold for 4-6 years. If the Bible is true and It is, then we can turn to it as well for training and instruction, and the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us in all truth as well our elders past and present and learn these things. The sheer amount of resources available for free and low cost, the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry shouldn’t leave you 100k in debt. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV

In some ways, not really. What seminaries have been teaching here in the states for the last 30 years can be seen in prosperity preaching on television. It's nothing but con men and women and crackpots. I wish it WERE a false dichotomy in real life and not just in logic.
@danello72 жыл бұрын
Come on sir. Although I agree that seminary training is critical, I don't agree with how you responded to that question. It is laced with sarcasm. Your reference to Spurgeon and the other theologian is conflicting with what you suggest one would need. They didn't have the largest library in the world nor were they the brightest and the best speakers of the English language.

GOOD NEWS; There is Resurrection, Eternal life and forgiveness of ALL previously committed sins in Jesus Christ. It is witnessed and recorded that "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures" (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) AND "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame." (Romans 10:9-11) TURN AWAY FROM WRONG DOING AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS.
