Year Zero is about the birth of the Antichrist. For instance the year is 2019 counting from the birth of Christ. So when the Antichrist is born the years would start over with Year Zero. The first album Opus Eponymous tells the story of summoning the Antichrist and ends with his birth. The second album Infestissumam is about the Antichrist's reign on earth. Meliora is about the absence of god and the utopia under Satan's reign, which eventually burns at the end. The fourth album Prequelle is about the return of god, his wrath and unleashing the plague.

yes it tells the story about how we manifest the antichrist with our greed, ego and vanity. Our fate is equal to lice is basically a message reminding us to be humble, thinking that we are better is the ego and vanity once again

@@Escobeezy thats not a bad interpretation either. Ghost loves to do that with their music, they like to have multiple meanings in their music so it is open to interpretation on multiple levels. For instance i am someone who is very heavy into astronomy, and the song "He is" actually has a lot of double meanings to it. You can take the line "two star crossed lovers reaching out to the beast with many names." obviously on the surface this sounds like Adam and Eve, but from an astronomical perspective he is talking about mars and venus( whom in mythology are said to have been very intimate with each other). Also the reference of the morning star leading us into the void, seems to be a reference that it takes 250,000,000 years for our solar system to make one full rotation around the center of our galaxy, sagittarius A. sooo from a technical standpoint that is essentially what is going on. Every day our sun leads our solar system into places of the galaxy that humans have never been before, the unknown, the void. Like i said i feel Tobias does this on purpose and it is very artistic. You can also look at the line from pinnacle to the pit where he says "we are cast out from the heavens to the ground, blackened feathers falling down." at face value it sounds like a direct Lucifer reference butttt you can also make the connection to Icarus on that one as well.

The BC was added because of a copyright issue that cropped up after they started getting attention in the US. I’m guessing it was cleared up and they dropped it from the name. BC literally stood for Because Copyright. Or at least that’s the explanation I’ve always heard.

Ghost is just called "Ghost". They had to add "BC" to their name in the beginning because of copyright issues (BC=Because Copyright lol). Each album takes place in a different part of Medieval times. Dance Macabre is pronounced ma-cob. It takes place during the black plague when everyone knew they had a short time to live so they partied like there was no tomorrow. Cirice (sounds like Sir Reece) means "church" in Old English. In Year Zero, it should say "Hell Satan" not "Hail Satan" that's what it says in the official lyric sheet.

'Year Zero' is essentially a song about the end of the world. Ghost did a concept story that followed the Anti Christ in their first 3 albums. He was birthed in the song 'Genesis'; he brings about the end times and rules tbe world in 'Year Zero'; but is finally defeated by God in 'Bible' when God passes his final judgement on Earth. It's a storyline that progresses over the course of various songs in their first 3 albums. 'Year Zero' isn't a proclamation swearing loyalty to Satan as much as this is the part of the story where he ascends and is triumphant, albeit briefly. Ghost had to legally change their name to Ghost BC for legal reasons because another, far less successful band trademarked the name Ghost before them. They eventually acquired the rights outright and went back to just Ghost; even though while they were legally named Ghost BC they said the 'BC' was silent. They likened it to Verizon-- technically they're named 'Verizon LLC' but everybody just calls them Verizon. When asked what the 'BC' stood for, Ghost's leader, Tobias Forge, said "because of copyright"! Hell yes, keep Ghost in the rotation! Ghost is absolutely amazing! P.S: 'Cirice' is pronounced "suh·reese"

I believe the B.C. suffix on the band name was actually specific to the US market, due to how difficult the common word "Ghost" is to defend as a trademark for music in the US (too much co-existence). Once the band acquired a fair bit of fame, their publisher in the US was comfortable letting them just use their band name (because it had acquired a distinctive meaning in their marketplace).

Ghost is amazing, been to 6 of their concerts and each one was great, even got to meet Tobias and some of the Nameless Ghouls with backstage passes my brother hooked us with, Tobias's on stage presence is something else, he just has this way of making you fall in love, doesn't matter if your a man a woman or gay or straight but he draws you in.

Ghost have quickly become one of my favourite bands.. If you go into them more and see any of their music videos you will see different "singers", those are all masks and are in fact the same guy underneath. He started out with Papa Emeritus I, then Papa Emeritus II, then Papa Emeritus III and now we have Cardinal Copia fronting the band.... no-one knew up until recently who was under the mask, it was all speculation, but then a law suit happened and his name was revealed. They are also one of those bands that you have to see live! ! There are sooooo many good songs by them but my recommendations would be for Faith, Mummy Dust and Square Hammer.

When listening to Metal, you have to remember Horror Movies played a lot into the imagery of the genre. Especially bands Like Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie and Ghost (Who all wear masks and the lead singer wears a Vincent Price mask).

You should check out the official music videos for "Dance Macabre" and "Rats." They have a very theatrical feel that reminds me of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Also "bewitch" is actually a word that means "to put a spell on." So if i bewitch someone i put a spell on them. I'm pretty sure that's what Ghost was going for with that lyric.

I love when new people listen to metal or rock for the first time and actually hear the talent of the guitarists and shit! The lyrics can be pure gold and have deep deep meaning. Way above the surface of mainstream pop music today. Metal and rock still touch at a deep level of the soul. I love Ghost and respect the music they put out completely, I think you definitely need to keep them in the rotation. The song He Is by Ghost would be a great one for your to react to because it is deep but soft. Something you might not expect at all. :D

Dance Macabre is about the parties that were thrown during the Black Plague where people were getting drunk and having the time of their lives because any day their life could end due to the plague...that's what he's mentioning in the lyrics is that he wants to kiss her and be with her at this ball/party because it could be their last chance to do so...

It's expectation versus reality. I originally didn't check them out because I thought they'd be really heavy with Cookie Monster vocals. Finally watched a music video and instantly fell in love. I still see hate, but it's from metal elitists who just don't understand the band. From their original myspace page, "Ghost is the name of a devil worshipping ministry that - in order to spread their unholy gospels, and furthermore, to trick mankind into believing that the end is ultimately a good thing - have decided to use the ever so popular rock music medium as a way to exploit their means. With sexually pulsating rock music and romantic lyrics that for the most part speaks about the Antichrist coming to life and other sacriligious themes, the groups' intention is simply to spread hell the most effective way - through entertainment. The groups' wish is that especially the innocent and easily manipulated children take a liking to their music. And they will..." Ghost is "softer" on purpose. They have heavy songs, but it's pop metal to appeal to more people. The Antichrist would be more Justin Bieber than Marilyn Manson. Ghost is trying to trick your Grandma into liking Satan. They look like a wolf, but their music is really a wolf in sheep's clothing. The catchy, diverse tunes, plus the theatrics and and the lore, Ghost is awesome.

The B.C. was added due to a copyright concern on the second album but after that the issue was cleared up they were able to go back to just being Ghost. That's why you'll only see them referred to as Ghost B.C. on the second album.

Dance Macabre is not about love falling apart but about living your life like there is no tomorrow. He wrote that song about people living during the black plague. During that time, when tomorrow was not a for sure thing, the people would party heavily as if it were "the last time fore it's over". It was a dark time in history but showed the resilience of humanity.

The third song is actually the darkest one of all of them. It's purposefully written and performed to sound more pleasant, but the song is actually about Satan looking to comfort a confused soul and pulling him/her to the darkness. Like someone else said, it's still all a stage act and for just pure shock and theatrics, but it's still pretty bad ass. I had never even heard of Ghost until I saw them in concert open for Iron Maiden. It was an amazing show. I've been a fan ever since.

I'll do my best:You've heard, in the Bible, when Jesus comes back and collects his disciples, all his children will go to Heaven with him. Year Zero is when the AntiChrist comes back and rules the Earth with the remaining members of humanity. Basically, the Time Table will reset itself and life on Earth begins anew.

Cirice is pronounced sir-reese which rhymes with Clarice from Silence of the Lambs. Fitting that the song artwork is from that movie poster. It is Old English for Church. A song about a damaged person being seduced and manipulated. Most likely seduced by Satan, but could also be a criticism of Catholicism.

Awesome reaction. Ghost is touring with Metallica in Europe, and they really have blown up. "Square hammer" "Life Eternal" "Mummy Dust" this would be a good trio these songs will bring a little of everything.

It's supposed to be "bewitch" like enchant, put a spell on... but it's a pun because it sounds like "be with" the B.C part comes from a copyright issue they had with some American band also going by the name Ghost; so they had to sort it out, and while they were dealing with it, tacked on the B.C. at the end, but it was always meant to be silent/not pronounced.

That lyrics video for Dance Macabre is wrong with the bit in brackets that you picked up on. It's not "I'm loving it", it's "Armageddon". And the line before that is "Cataclysm" not "Like this, yeah".

I went to one of their earlier shows with my then 6 year old who was and still is a huge fan. Back then there was no real crowd so we could stand right up front with my kid in corpse paint and really soak up thr atmosphere. They had a real minimalistic line up with the drum kit consisting of not much more than a hi hat, a couple of cymbals, one bass drum and a snare drum. The drummer ghoul made that small kit sound like a massive set. Absolutely unbelievable to hear. 😍

they literally mean “ bewitch “ not “ be with “ but the lyrics are wrong when it says “ one last time with me tonight “ it’s actually “ i wanna bewitch you one last time in ancient rhyme “. if I remember this right the song actually talks about life during the Black Plague and people dancing and partying one last time before the plague kills them too

Dance macabre is about the great plague. Its him singing about knowing he is probably going to die and this is his last time being with her. The "sting" is knowing he may be kissing her for the last time.

Dance Macabre is about lovers last moments together during the plague in the 1340's, the sting in the kiss is from the drugs to numb the pain of the plague. The music video it's also a sort of fictional show of how he became Papa Emeritus.

Ghost is the bands name but when they wanted to start playing in America they weren't allowed to use it as just Ghost because of some kind of trademark problem so they added the BC. And you should have watched the video for Cirice it's frikkin Awesome!

The actual lyric IS "bewitch." That commentor was talking about when you, the listener, realize that the lead singer is saying "bewitch" and not "be with." Most people who hear it the first time don't catch that and just assume he's saying "be with."

The B.C. in Ghost's name was always meant to be silent; it was their way of getting around a copyright issue since there was another band whose name was Ghost, and idk, I think they got it right. The fate of lice is just like.. man's fate is the same as a parasitic creature; what do you do when you get lice? You kill 'em all. I see Forty six & 2 by Tool in the recommended right when you're about to watch Year Zero. Tool is another one of those bands that should be mandatory to check out at least once.
