Not to be "that guy", but the reason Cerritos lines up perfectly with the end of the DLH parking structure is because Cerritos used to run all the way through to West Street (now Disneyland Drive) and it served as the north boundary for the hotel property. Disney bought the street when they expanded the hotel property northward.

I think they’ll choose option two. If you look at the Disneyland Forward concept art, they clearly drew in a separate parking structure where the current convention center is. If they weren’t considering that, they would have shown the convention center as-is.

If they did have Cerritos as the main entrance to the Disneyland Hotel area and needed more parking, because all of the Northern parking lots would get used for the theme park, they could just add more to the parking structure that is already at the hotel. There's the small lot South of where Cerritos would come in to, for its valet and short-term parking, that could be made into a parking structure. The ground floor could still be valet and short-term. The structure could extend toward where Cerritos would come in as the main way to get into the parking structure as soon as the guest drives onto the property. Guests could take an immediate right if they were pulling up to the front to check in to the hotel. I live and work in Las Vegas, so this is how I immediately see parking structures working. lol

I agree that the Trading Post and former ESPN building are not being developed as part of Downtown Disney. It's actually turning south away from that area and towards the new security checkpoint next to Din Tai Fung. What has me curious is the Downtown Monorail station. While it is a nice perk to ride to Tomorrowland from there, maybe it could serve as an alternate way of getting guests from the east side of Disneyland over to the park expansion by switching up the station entry/exit to the park expansion side. Station wouldn't have to move, just a new ramp entry from the expansion park instead of Downtown. It could still serve as a perk for the Disneyland Hotel guests as they could use the new hotel park entrance to get to and from the park. Imagine being able to hop the Monorail from Tomorrowland to the new expansion instead of walking?

I really enjoy your videos, keep them coming. In regards to the Disneyland hotel, Disney actually has existing plans that had been considered previously internally. Some included expanding DTD north, others had complete demolition of the Disneyland hotel and rebuild in other locations and others including alterations of the hotel. I have a feeling that they are mist most likely being revisited as starting points for any future changes. In most of the ideas if not all they always included the removal of all flat surface parking lots. The idea was to replace all the parking lot with a new parking structure. Some included retrofitting the existing Disneyland hotel parking structure or replace and rebuild with extra spaces. The other more coast effective plan was to replace the long stretch of flat parking along walnut and building a new parking structure that would accommodate the convention room needs and hotel needs. The guest parking, valet would be relocated inside the existing structure. Disneyland hotel access to the theme park expansion is also supposedly being considered for the south side of the property with the possibility of using the existing rose court gardens and surrounding open area as a grand themed garden entrance similar to what was built at Disney Springs. This would also give direct and closer access to the time share towers, and tiki bar without having to cross the pool areas and facilities. The walk area between Fantasy tower and Adventure tower by the hat would be closed off

It makes more sense to do a three level parking garage for DLH a 2 level one for PPH, and a final one for join access. This would allow them to maintain the same parking volume, but reduce the foot print of that parking. Then once those are done they can start on clearing the available space and building access points to the new future park spaces.

Thanks for you insight into DL's possible future. That has always been one of my favorite things to look at, ever since I saw a preview center at DL on my 1st trip to DL. I will have to watch your explanation of why a pedestrian bridge will not be needed in the future for the Mickey/Pixar Parking buildings. As I see It, there really will still need to be a way for guests from the parking garages to access the west end of Downtown Disney. Trams just dont always do the trick, especially if you want your guests spending more $$$$ in DTD. Consider that Disney didn't even run them , coming back from Co-Vid. and sometimes not run the trams during special events. As for a special entrance from DL Hotel to an expansion area next to the hotel, yes I can see Disney wanting to keep that exclusive. HOWEVER , I really do think it would be wise to also have just an exit from the DL Expansion area, that would go straight to the Parking Structures, Not an entrance to DL, only an Exit exclusively for guests who parked in those structures. That would certainly help ease congestion, at park closing.

I was able to attend the Anaheim Council meeting (the 2nd approval) it was stated that a pedestrian path must be maintained between Walnut and Harbor Blvd. (this was in the 1990s agreement) Then it was stated that the future use of Magic Way would be for Emergency vehicles only. I believe that 2 lanes will be maintained closest to the current parking garages. 1 East bound and 1 West bound. The only mention for Hotel traffic was in current use, not future use. Yes, the concept art does show a parking garage where the convention center currently sits as well as a drop off zone in the current drop of zone of the DLH. As Disney has stated the concept art does not represent what will be, but what could be. The future of this plot of land will be reworked in such a way that what is there now will not be identifiable as such. Some landmarks (hotel towers) will give suggestions as to what area the "new" took over from the past. I feel that the ESPN Zone and Rainforest buildings will both be removed. (currently the Earl of Sandwich and Portos participation and locations are up in the air) The wording at the Council meetings was that this expansion was crucial for Disneyland to not have to remove classic attractions and still grow. Disney is currently in the habbit of building themed lands with 1 I.P. or like Fantasy Springs which is 1 land with 3 I.P. I do not see how this current trend helps them to achieve the goal of not having to replace classic attractions in the future. (Pirates, Mansion, Big Thunder, Space Mountain, Indy, Jungle Cruise, Matterhorn or Small World)

Interesting video with a lot of really good information. I just don't see a future for DLR that allows large surface parking lots to still exist There's another possibility I'd like to throw out there. They could build a parking structure on the current GCH self-parking lot which would serve the needs of both GCH and DLH guest parking freeing up the current DLH self-parking lot for park expansion. They'd have to have six floors (two subterranean) to replace the existing parking spaces but it would work. They need all the expansion room they can get.

Really appreciate all these videos. My son and I enjoy doing our own armchair imagineering, and these provide great fodder for our discussions. One thing I’m curious about, though. It seems that the assumption is that the footprints of the two legacy hotels (Disneyland and Pixar Place) will largely remain as is. But since the whole purpose of DisneylandForward is to gain greater land use flexibility, why wouldn’t they plan to reconfigure or completely replace these hotels? In my mind, both of these could become ground-scrapper hotels that line the South and West perimeter of the property. Doing so would accomplish the following: 1. Shield the general public, particularly residents to the West, from new theme park space. Considering the requirement to build new attractions in 360 degrees, doesn’t seem that a Rise of the Resistance-type show building (as depicted in the concept art) will actually be allowed. Hotels along the perimeter would solve this issue. 2. Remove awkward sight lines from inside existing and future theme park space (particularly Pixar Place) 3. Provide thematically appropriate designs that complement new theme park space (like at Fantasy Springs) 4. Expand premium hotel capacity (Pixar Place has only half the number of rooms as the other two Disney hotels?) 5. Consolidate and centralize theme park space rather than needing to build around the existing hotel footprints. 6. Be new attractions in themselves. When visiting WDW, we usually allow a day just for visiting the deluxe hotels. Other than Grand Californian, I personally don’t care to explore the DL hotels. Admittedly, the new Villas tower presents a challenge because they won’t be tearing that tower down anytime soon. But I don’t see why the other three towers at DLH can’t be eliminated. To my knowledge, the most recent work done at the two legacy hotels has largely been cosmetic, thus relatively inexpensive compared to the cost and return on new, larger, more deluxe hotels. Thoughts?

There was old concept art that there will be a hotel parking structure south of Disneyland Hotel. This new location can consolidate parking for both hotels. This means the lobby for Disneyland Hotel will change. It would be wise to create a centralized lobby for the Pixar Place Hotel too. Eventually, they can extend the connection between the two hotels by adding a new wing to Pixar Place.

An important piece of unknown information is how that parking structure was designed when built. Did the designers for the possibility of needing to expand it in the future be included in the original design? If so, then they could just increase the number of spaces in the parking garage by expanding it upwards.

Ashleigh Aitken, the Anaheim Mayor, has said in a couple of interviews that the residents off of Walnut Ave will still have some sort of access pathway to Downtown Disney. That was one of the points made of losing Magic Way so I’m sure Disney will make that happen someway as to not lose those potential DTDisney customers. A lot of the residents there like their easy walk to DTDisney from their homes. I also wonder if they could build a 3-4floors parking structure ON TOP of the Disneyland hotel convention center?! 🤔 Would it look ugly?? Would it even be feasible?! They’d really have to theme it up & make it look like it’s NOT a parking structure. Hmmmmmmmm

Bricky, I have to totally disagree with your scenario on getting into the Disneyland Hotel via Cerritos or Walnut to Magic Way. Years ago (late 1970’s) I worked at the Disneyland Hotel in the parking dept. and back when Weather owner it. Those streets as I understand it are protected for mainly residential traffic, but even if that is not the case, how are tourist going to be getting off the 5 freeway and have an easy flow into the Disneyland Hotel using Walnut and especially Cerritos because there is zero flow from the 5? They would have to get off the 5, go west and down Ball Road then turn down this narrow Walnut St. which cannot widen because neighborhoods or on one side and the parking structure is on the other. Not exactly easy! And Cerritos???? How? Where would the tourist come from to get onto Cerritos?

Disney will not have the entrance off of walnut, it will be off of Disneyland drive. This is because of guest ease of access. They won’t want hotel guest to go down a different street which is not off the freeway to get into the resort. Where that entrance is I have no idea, but you can’t look at the early concept art because the downtown Disney expansion does not line up to the concept art which means it’s outdated. The concept art was not even really concept art it was a what if conceptual image. All we know is that we are getting two extensions . One for DCA and the other is for Disneyland. We know both of these extensions could possibly have entrances from downtown Disney. We know most likely the Pixar place hotel will have a private entrance into DCA. Disneyland hotel might have an entrance into DCA but that is questionable. We do know that Disneyland hotel will have a private entrance into Disneyland. However the Disneyland expansion side is the side with the most questions. How are they going to connect it to the main body of the theme part because the elevations on both sides of Disneyland drive are vastly different with critter country is below grade. While on the other side is at grade. That means your going to have to go over the road by building the land up and then go way down to connect to critter country. The dca side doesn’t have this problem because both sides are at grade where you could building something that the entrance to piccata pier where you go up to a point and the down again. But it doesn’t feel ridiculous. Entrance into the hotel is another major question because if you were not changing the entrance at all why buy the street by the parking structure at all and close it. Even tho it’s rarely used , there’s two emergency exits for cars from the parking structure and the hotel entrance. Buying the street tells me that are drastically changing the entrance into the hotel. What the entails that could be redo signing the entire hotel . We just don’t know. That’s why D23 I believe we will get a complete concept art of the entire Disneyland forward project along with timelines, and features to come
