This was when the wheels were getting used to the track, over time the wheels get used to the track and the track itself wears away too and this causes a line in the track where is pure metal not paint and this what adds extra speed

Realllyyyyyy...... like every coaster at Alton towers has broken a world record, its slow for a reason, just like the swarm it makes you feel worried and tbh most coasters in America have 2 -3 inversions and that's it, this has 14!

Stervma m8 Ik what u mean by that but that isn’t supposed to happen on each loop the carts should go 5-10 mph slower and Ik this is before the crash and all but still it shouldn’t be open till after the crash like today they are speeding it (that’s not a joke btw ) and it’s like the crash happened cause there was nobody on the 5th cart meaning not enough wait and u might thing the dummies are heavey they where only 40kg that is the weight of a 10 year old.from the crash they have to fill each cart fully to make it not do that . It may look like it is meant to be it isn’t

Went on this last week, it's an awesome rollercoaster and overtakes Air as my favourite of all time. Not sure how they designed this but to get 14 inversions in such a small space is amazing. And for those who haven't been Alton towers lately, this coaster is on the ground of the old Black Hole location next to Oblivion.

This ride is so fun, went on it yesterday. Probably the only one out of my mates who was screaming with joy and not crying. Would ride this again, even on my own.

Wow, scouring your channel and find this! Those inversions looked a bit slow didn't they? Sure hoped that they would of picked up on that before the accident but I guess that was half the fun, slowly cresting the inversion. Sidenote: Your old intro is definitely an interesting site to see!

I'm hoping that this is a soft wheel test because if not, I see at least three problem areas in the circuit and may be stall points in the future or at least areas that will head bang the riders, I hope not! Also Shawn, you have a very promising future in the field of broadcasting and I wish you great luck and continued success! I have some great moment pictures to send you from all over ... need to dig them out but for now ... how about a shout out!

@@arne4736 New user name and I will be to make it easy to see. I counted the inversions that had the potential to cause a stall and roll back into a valley within a single block zone. This is not a well designed coaster. Alton Towers height restriction is most at fault, restricts speed for the number of inversions.

Normally testing is done with softer wheels on the trains to make them go slower on purpose. This might be why it looks like it only just makes the last 2 inversions before the second lift hill.

1. The less weight, the slower the trains. 2. Their using softer wheels which hinders it's full speed. When it opens to the public, it'll have the harder wheels which will provide it with the full speed.

In all honestly the coasters at Alton towers are tiny compared to mostly popular them parks in the us. I just think it's shit yet some travel miles for something that lasts a couple of mins. And queue for hours.

Ik this is really late but Alton towers have a building height limit due to it being in a conservation/residential area and can’t go above tree heights

The trim brakes that slow the train down before the latter inversions were causing the cars to scrape away the paint from the track, and thus they often got stuck halfway round. They closed the ride to remove the trim brakes, so now it will go even faster!

There were so many errors before the crash happened. It was so close to stalling and going backwards against gravity and slow. Next time I hope staff check their cameras until 1 cart is completely done with the ride.

For starters, its not a fast or thrill ride, its a physically enduring ride that takes it time around the track so u can feel the inversions more + thats not the whole point of it. Its about the psychological effects like the marmiliser. Btw, what did the inoculator do? Because those giant needles dont actually look like they do anything.

Seriously? Smiler is 1 of a kind and the UK has the only 3 Eurofighter coasters which are Saw, Mumbo Jumbo and the origional one "Speed" at Oakwood in wales. USA aint ahead, they are just playing catchup with UK copying our rides. UK is the best in the World for coasters and we hold the most records.

It's only slow because it is new and just started testing. Now that it's open, it will run a lot faster, plus they removed some mid-course brakes that will up the speed even more. This is very impressive IMO.

That's because the wheels were not used to the track yet. The wheels were rolling on paint, not metal and that's why it was slower than normal.

I think that people have overeacted to the hyping of this coaster. It made sense given how overhyped Th13teen was, and the subsequent disappointment of the ride itself, but this looks a lot better. This looks like a lot of fun.

A roller coaster can have as many lift hills as it wants. there's no limit to the amount of lift hills on a roller coaster. I do agree that it shouldn't go THAT slow cause if there is abit of wind then it will either make it go back down where it came from or push it over to the second lift hill. The car will move because of the weight of the passengers on it, it will NEVER stop at the top of it. if this happen then its very very very unlucky I've never seen this happen on a coaster before. x

There was one inversion that concerned me during the first half of the ride right before the second lift. A ride should never slow that much during any inversion, all you need is a small gust of wind to halt the ride. Also, adding a second lift hill doesn't count, technically, that makes it two roller coasters not one continuous circuit.

You might wanna look up Steel Dragon 2000. Way longer than the smiler but this is gonna be better than SD2000

As far as some of the greatest rides put together, I'm certain some of Disney's rides come into these categories, not only with thrills but also the amount of effort put into ride theming. Also, the USA has a better selection of rides. Something like Tatsu vs. Air, most would prefer Tatsu, just for the sheer height of the thing.
