I wasn't expecting this wonderful tune this morning. I'll just have to be a little late signing into work. IMHO it is one of the best Bee Gees songs ever, and that's saying something, because there are so many favorites. Barry's powerful gorgeous voice starting this out on an upbeat rather than the expected downbeat gives "Here We Are" even more emphasis. Robin's voice is clear as a bell and they blend perfectly. What about wonderful Mo? Barry couldn't do the falsetto ad libs while also singing lead. So you get to hear Mo perform it flawlessly. He most often did high harmony, but had a huge vocal range and could do down to low baritone. Wow, this woke me right up this morning. This is an incredibly important song to me. Thank you to The Midnight Special guys for this!

Dennis Byron is, as would expected of any and all musicians associated with the Bee Gees, a brilliant drummer. Here, he's playing note-for-note what he plays in the studio. For three guys and a band that could fit in the size of a two car garage, they have such a powerful sound. I bet it would sound just as good in that garage as it does on stage! That, is what performing live is all about. By the way, that would’ve been the ultimate block party.

I love this song so much! I, especially, love hearing it live in their early days of performing it because we get the rare treat of hearing Mo sing the falsetto ad lib parts in the last chorus for Barry, since Barry couldn't sing them while, also, singing the main parts of the chorus, as they were both happening at the same time. I call it a rare treat because Mo never sang that much lead and I'm pretty sure that was the only time he ever sang lead in a really high voice. Also, it amazes me every time I hear it because I think he sounds almost exactly like Barry does singing those parts in the studio version of the song. Thank you, Midnight Special, for giving us this special treat in such a good quality video!

A little history part of this treasure song: The Bee Gees Full Band Barry Gibb - vocal, guitar Robin Gibb - vocal Maurice Gibb - vocal, guitar, bass Blue Weaver - piano, keyboard, synthesizer Alan Kendall - guitar, steel guitar Dennis Bryon - drums Geoff Westley: Piano and Keyboards The Borneroo Horns: Brass orchestra arranged by Arif Mardin; concertmaster Gene Orloff engineer: Karl Richardson (Criteria), Lew Hahn (Atlantic) producer: Arif Mardin January and February 1975, Criteria Recording Studios, Miami; undated, Atlantic Recording Studios, New York. NIGHTS ON BROADWAY Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb, Maurice Gibb (1975) 20, 30 January 1975 stereo (slow) 4:31, lead vocal Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb Main Course, 1975 stereo (fast, edit) 2:52, lead vocal Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb A side, September 1975 stereo (fast) 4:25, lead vocal Barry Gibb, Robin Gibb Tales from the Brothers Gibb, 1990 ‘Nights on Broadway’ was the first song with some falsetto vocal by Barry, just some backing vocal in the chorus. But did he record that now, or ten days later? January 30 might be more likely. But the basic tracks certainly have a nice funk beat, and the hard-hitting main song contrasts well with a quieter harmony section. This was a landmark recording for the Bee Gees. They had finally broken through to the rhythm and blues sound they loved. ‘Nights on Broadway’ was edited for radio by removing the slow section, just to bring it to a more acceptable length of 2:52. It was also speeded up- or was it? The version on Tales from the Brothers Gibb is also faster than the album, and fades a little later despite a 4:25 running time. That appears to be the correct speed. If so then ‘Nights on Broadway’ was slowed down for the album, presumably to make ‘Jive Talkin’’ sound faster by contrast. By Joseph Brennan

From pretty much the 1980s onward you don't see Barry playing what used to be his standard guitar for more than a decade, and precisely what he's using here --- his Guild Artist Award "jazz box" archtop. It's a really great instrument and helped him get that "chucka-chucka" rhythm on this song, as well as many other sounds from the earlier part of their catalogue. He still uses Guilds, but man, I miss him playing this guitar.

Think Barry went to a lighter weight guitar due to back problems, beginning mid to late 80's. In fact, I think the Guild guitar you're referring to here, Stephen recently pointed out on a podcast in their studio.

The best ‘stalker’ song ever??? Gibb brothers were phenomenal, as was their drummer!

I've been listening to this song for years, and I never realized that the high notes of this song were sung by Maurice. I figured is was Barry doing the falsetto voice. What an amazing group.

En la canción si es barry, en vivo lo hacia mo porque barry no podia cantar al mismo tiempo y hacer los falsetes

I've read that Barry sang the falsetto on the recording, but it wouldn't work on the live performance because of his singing the rest of the song.
