Can I add fish emulsion at the same time I add osmocote plus? I only use osmocote plus twice a year and plan to use fish emulsion every couple weeks.

A quick tip that really made my fertilising a little more pleasant: I replace the lid on my fish emulsion and seaweed emulsion with a sauce bottle lid. The sauce bottle lid is a screw on and then has a screw opening/closing top. No more stinky fingers from drips of fish emulsion.

Somebody said that if you're using it on houseplants not to let the water in the dish under the plant once you have used the fish fertilizer . Can somebody tell me if this is going to be a problem ... and if so , why ? I was about to transfer all my houseplants in the bigger containers with new soil and use this product so there will definitely be some extra watering and now I'm worried I'll harm the plants if they are sitting for awhile in the water with the fish emulsion .

I live out in the “boonies” where a lot of different animals are free to roam through my property, and I’m able to use fish emulsion in my garden by sprinkling a bit of cinnamon over the soil after applying. Doesn’t hurt the plants, and keeps most things away.

My husband and I have multiple aquariums. 1 is 125 gallons. As well as 90 gallons. Plus several smaller aquariums. When we do water changes on our big tanks, I use the water from the tanks to water our garden as well as our indoor and outdoor plants. It is so beneficial to our plants and us. We use that water to help fertilize as well as save on adding water to our plants. I love its benefits.

I'm going to assume you have freshwater aquariums. If I did this with my 50g weekly water changes from my reef tanks I would kill my garden. Tho, I always wondered if I can use skim mate as a fertilizer.

I grew up on Albemarle sound in NE NC and caught alot of fish ...My Grandmother ALWAYS asked that we bury all the fish remains in the garden once we cleaned our fish...we always had a big pretty garden year after year.

A year ago I knew nothing about figs and was asking you what I should do with my fig tree in the front yard that froze ( Houston Tx )......and now, thanks to you, I have 25 assorted figs trees ( one being from a cutting from your Ronde de Bourdeaux fig tree )...... I just gave my trees and palms the first feed of the year. Used a 4-1-1 fish emulsion and mixed it with kelp that had 4% Pottasium so the npk came of perfect for for those plants.

Love the part about using during transplanting. I typically apply some crab meal directly to the roots durring transplanting and it works like a dream. Same concept. Great video. Keep up the good work!

I combine a scoop of jacks 20-20-20 and a glug of Alaska fish fertilizer (in the same watering can), and it does wonders! Great results for the past 2 years!

This fish feed and their other product More Bloom are amazing for the dessert area I live in. Our plants look so great this year and I've only started using them 2 months ago!! Can't wait for May when most of our greenery really comes in to see the effect. I do want to try kelp next!

On another channel the guy says don't let your potted plants sit in the dishwater that has the fish Emulsion in it ... I don't understand why this would be a problem ... do you ? I'm about to transfer most of my houseplants to bigger containers with fresh dirt and was going to give them all an extra nice watering and I know there will be some water sitting at the bottom under them in the dish but now I'm worried about this causing some kind of harm to the plants' roots ?

I produce both products here in Brazil! My company is called Algas de Penha. One product is already for sale, which is the seaweed-based biostimulant. You are my go to guy for gardening. You mentioned Fish Emulsion before and I have been using it ever since. My fig tree and tomatoes are out of the world. I just can’t put it on my potted plants because I did that once and wasn’t able to sit on my deck..

My family are long time gardeners from West Coast 🇨🇦 we always use Alaska FF. Still today (2024) I feed everything with it & my folk’s used to plant fresh Salmon heads under all our Roses & they were the size of dessert plates- no kidding they were pretty spectacular!!

I just used this exact fish fertilizer, it’s super easy to use. Yes my dog was incredibly curious about the smell but I didn’t smell it once it was applied to my veggie garden. I can’t see the smell being an issue

THANK YOU for your great videos!!! Alaska Fish fertilizer is an amazing product, especially if used in combination with liquid kelp and Texas Tomato Food fertilizer. I use Espoma Tomato Tone, Black Kow compost, and mushroom soil compost when planting seedlings for their long-term effect. My sweet pepper plants in '23 were not less than 5 feet tall and full of peppers. The tallest was over 8 feet. I use 10-foot-tall metal t-posts for support and plant 4 peppers around each post. The extra leaves of 4 plants together protect the peppers from sunburn. Honeybees go into the tops of the plants to pollinate. One group of 6-foot-tall peppers last October had over 100 peppers (of all sizes) on it. Extra space is given between groups of plants. The variety I use was listed to grow 32-36 inches tall. The breeder said that they had never seen pictures of this variety growing that tall---2 years in a row. In '22, the tallest was over 7 feet tall. Note: My raised bed garden is about 20 inches tall, zone 7a. I now believe that sweet peppers like to grow closely together and compete with each other for light (like trees in the forest). Sorry, but I can't find your original video and just wanted to give you a shout out for your recommendations. In the video you recommended a Japanese tree saw for pruning and some hand-held pruners. I purchased them and I am shouting with joy. I love these amazing little tools. They have made my life so much easier in the garden. I have some hand issues and these just cut through the thick branches like butter. They were also super affordable. I am a huge fan of your channel and am so happy I found you. Thanks for your concern. It isn’t too bad here where I’m at. So far, a little over 2 inches of rain and some gusty winds, but no big deal. It didn’t even wake us up. I’ve had worse rain and winds during our afternoon thunderstorms during the summer. If this is the worst it gets for us, it is just a rain day.

I have an extra brandywine plant which I planted late and away from my regular garden. As an experiment I combined 1 oz of fish emulsion and 1 oz of neptunes harvest 2-6-4 in a 2 gal. watering can and after about 1 week the explosion of foliage combined with some rather sizable blooms blew my mind-- the kicker being this plant just below 1' tall.

I've been using the Alaska FF for a few years now. It is FANTASTIC stuff. But it seems like it takes a while to actually work. Maybe it's suppose to IDK. But I can put it on my struggling tomatoes or bell peppers and 10 days later they still look like they are struggling. Give it a few more days to make it about 2 weeks and they just explode in growth. And that smell.....oh yeah. It has a very thick, unique, pungent odor. Quite a few times I've opened up the jug on a hot summer day and that smell will smack you right in the face. It stays in your nose for a few hours.

Between you and me I would rather use a fish hydrolysate which is not cooked and doesn't smell so much instead of the emulsion which is cooked and smells to high heaven. I like this OMRI Listed Fish & Kelp Fertilizer by GS Plant Foods or Neptune's Harvest Tomato and Vegetable. Just my personal preference and like you say get what you can from local sources and as cheaply as possible. If you lived near a fishing port you could probably get your own fish material from the cleaning process and make your own. Now that would really smell. Keep up the great videos. I always learn something.

Your video is very informative and factual. Both of the Fish and Seaweed emulation products I have are VERY acidic. When mixed at the recommended rate with tap water (pH 9.3), the final pH is around 5.5. I adjust the pH in the green house, but what of a hose end sprayer for turn grass? Will that acidity negatively affect the lawn?

I think, most of what you do with fertilers and the kinds of fertiliser you use , on your plants and gardens, makes a lot of sense to me, so I wonder if I could apply some of your knowledge and techniques to use on my pastures for horses , ( TWO HORSES 7 AC). that are full of Dallis grass , (im new at this) but I do not want to use chemicals that could be detrimental to their health

FIRST explanation on bio-available I’ve heard. Well done! I’ve heard many describe organic fertilizer as “slow acting” or used to ”feed the soil”. Your presentation is waaay better, thank you! Salt residue - important info! 👍🏻 And then, my engineering gardener guru says….”pour in one glug”. 🤣🤣 (Totally accurate description btw). Noting your rain catchment set-up ….. PLEASE DO A VIDEO on the rain catchment. I bought 2 fabulous 165 gal barrels and need to set those up. Would love to see your brainiac approach to install and your insight into rainwater off an asphalt roof. It’s an important part of gardening, right? Thanks for THIS quality video! 👍🏻

Awesome video! I just got my first bottle of fish emulsion and I'm now heading out to try it! One thing I wanted to say about Dale and his Kong. I used to give my girl kongs. She would do the same thing and tear them up immediately. It was all good until it wasn't. I bought her probably 10 to destroy before she actually ate the hard Kong rubber and they got stuck in her intestinal tract. $4300 later, a long scary surgery and she's okay but it was touch and go for a few days. Just wanted to caution you to not let him eat the rubber.

I use fish fertilizer but concerned about so much nitrogen. Good to get plants started. The main problem we had this year is it called a coon into the garden. He scaled the fence probably by compost bin. It took us a couple days to figure it out as we’ve had voles for first time in my life, but this was unusually tore up and I wasn’t happy-we set a live trap and got it. We are in severe drought/heat in WI and everything wants our stuff.

Fish Emulsion is like an organic compost tea. Already broken down and available to the plant immediately. It works great and fast. This and worm casting for a plants vegetative state will get you to the bloom phase. But I use at half strength as it builds up if used too often. Not too much of a smell. Sure if you stick your face right over it. But why would you do that?

I'm trying the Fish Emulsion with Miracle-Gro, as you showed. I'm hoping it makes a huge difference, but it's too early to tell, because I'm in 5b Zone. I also powdered the roots of any vegetable transplants with Bonemeal as I was planting them. And I plan to add more throughout the growing season. I tried wormcastings, and haven't seen a difference in my tomatoes so far. Thank you for this information. Great video.

I use Alaska fish fertilizer on my vegetables and my figs . Thank you . I've been wondering if I should be using something else with it . But I guess I'm doing the right thing . I use miracle grow for house plants

Soluble fertilizers are fine to use here and there if your plants need a boost. I wouldn't rely on them, but they're good in moderation, especially to enhance fruiting. I find the heavy feeders like them the most: figs bananas, cucumbers, potatoes, tomatoes. Fish fertilizer has a lot more benefits to the soil, so that's something you can more or less rely on in many applications.

@@TheMillennialGardener the one I use has a faint smell of seaweed. It is awesome for making roots and recovering damaged plants for a foliar spray. I add it to my worm compost tea. it is the best at keeping the good microbes happy.

i agree another good organic is Neem seed powder its 6-1-2 mine smells like strong coffee i use kelp also as much organic as possible

Thank you! Fish emulsion can be used alongside your regular routine as well. If you have a good routine going, you can always just add fish emulsion for even more benefits.

I've been using this stuff for the last 3 years. I don't have problems with critters in my raised beds. Where I do have problems is when I use blood and bone meal. My dogs won't stay away from it.

Yes they all love the organic ferts. Haha I have squirrels, raccoons, bunny's. They do dig some but actually do minimal damage.

Hello Anthony, as usual ,loved this video. I have been following your fertising regime for Figs at Budbreak and they have had the first two feeds and are in new leaf growth stage.(perth aus) I have noticed that huge fig tree behind you, which I'm fairly sure is in a 10 gallon tub- it's so tall-. Do yiu have a problem with fig roots coming out at the bottom, having grown so big.? As you regularly fertilise your figs. I'm a newbie to figs ( in pots) - you have an incredible range of fertilisers in US. Our fertilisers by law have a very low Phospherous element. Cheers and Woof to Dale

I haven't had a problem with roots growing through the bottoms of the containers. Generally speaking, you should probably prune your roots every 3 years or so. Most of my figs in pots are 3 years old, so I'm going to have a long winter of root pruning ahead of me 😅 Dale says hello!

My dogs love the fish emulsion! They lick the water that drips from my hanging flower baskets! One of them will even eat the dirt! I’m going to start using the kelp seaweed for my flowers. The fish emulsion is wonderful! Thank you for all the info you give us!

You're welcome! Be careful with the fish emulsion. I imagine that can cause upset stomachs. I am in the process of producing a video on how to keep dogs away from fertilizers. I hope to produce it within the next 1-2 weeks.

@@TheMillennialGardener we’re keeping them out of garden at this time bc I accidentally left the fertilizer out one night and a critter opened it and turned it over..during the rain we had recently. It was a mess! So I’ll use the kelp seaweed in areas they can get to. Look forward to the video!

Last year I started using a combination of Fish and Seaweed, and also Worm Tea on my lawn and flower gardens which I mix together and apply with a batterie-operated sprayer, all from Petra Tools. As far as I can tell, they work great. This year I've had to mow my lawn every 3 to 5 days and my shrubs and flowers are larger and fuller. In fact, I now have earthworms in my lawn which I never had for the first 7 years of owning this property.

A very informative video as usual. Thank You! I have a quick question - what type of black ground covering sheets do you use, and for what purpose? It looks like standard Tar Paper. I am beginning to get slugs and roly poly bugs in the soil of my potted fig trees. These pots are sitting directly on the ground/soil, and I suspect they are crawling in through the drainage openings at the bottom of the pots. When I go to up pot the trees from 5 gal pots to 15 gal, the roots have a substantial number of slugs and roly polys - requiring that I remove the soil from most of the roots to shake out the bugs before I repot. I thought the ground covering you use might solve my problem. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

I believe MG is using landscape cloth. Slugs and snails will crawl over the landscape cloth to get to your potted plants.
