Technique Books: bit.ly/3E1tqYJ Mortal Weapons the Fight Comic: www.modernmartialartist.com/mortal-weapons/ CORRECTION: Looks like I made a mistake on how I stated Marquez's record. I just checked how that happened and it looks like I'd written out a factually correct sentence in my script and then read it wrong and didn't catch it. I apologize for the mistake. I try my best to get records, stats, dates and name pronunciations correct. I do have the same person who edits fact check the script when they get it. Luckily doesn't change the video very much so no big deal :)

You are forgetting, Floyd cheated for this fight! Fraud, er, i mean Floyd DELIBERATTLY came in 5 Ibs over weight for their agreed upon catch weight limit, hence, he was much bigger than Marquez when they entered the fight!

Mayweather cheats and all his fights are fake. You can't pretend he is a real boxer when he just cheats every time he gets in trouble, bends down and puts his entire upper body and back of his head to the opponent. It's basically exiting the ring and nobody seems to have a problem with it because people are dipshits.

Most fighters were constantly yo-yoing in weight, which is terrible for your body, but Floyd was like a thoroughbred. He always stayed in fight shape, so as the fight went on, he stayed strong as his opponents faded into helplessness. You can see a great example vs MacGregor. The Marquez win aged well for Floyd, but the first thing that should be mentioned was the size differential (and the fact Floyd didnt even both trying to adhere to the contracted weight). Marquez was moving up two weight classes though as a master boxer was up against a superior technician, with height weight and speed advantage, who was also THE master counter puncher in the game. Marquez had to pressure (not his best strength) and played right into Mayweathers wheel house. Everything favoured Mayweather in this fight and the ONLY question mark was about how he would bounce back after a lengthy hiatus.

This kind of argument rests on whether you're on a certain side of the weight class vs skills debate. To me, the making weight point is a very moot, nit-picky slight on Floyd's win. It guarantees nothing. Contracted, I understand is a legality issue but the fight itself, was pure tactical superiority. It's not like Marquez would've magically landed the shots he missed if only he was a bit lighter. Floyd is just that much better. You don't move up weight classes just because you gained weight like it's a right of passage, obviously, skill is king. Marquez fought great fight I'm sure anyone else at the time would've been trapped in a brawl with Marquez if they fought him that day. Marquez knows Floyd is just on a different. Look it up, hear what he says himself about Floyd.

So when Floyd came back after two years of inactivity, he choose to fight Marquez. Marquez was ranked 3rd P4P at the time and was seen as more or less Manny’s biggest rival. Manny jumped to 147 from 135 to fight an non-prime De La Hoya and everyone praises Manny for daring to be great. But when Marquez does the same thing (jumping to 147 from 135) to fight Floyd, you criticize Floyd for it and don’t give Marquez credit. Why is there a double standard lol? And you do realize that Floyd is a naturally smaller guy as well, who started his career at 130 lol? Manny, Floyd and Marquez all started at lower weights but moved up and competed, and ended their careers at 147. So when you talk about weight, why is it only a positive thing when it comes to Manny but negative when it comes to Marquez and Floyd lol? Next time you try to have an argument with someone, please be concise and come with facts. You’re being to biased

@@AyeYoBoxingWithMadiba Nope 2008 was not the year people wanted to see Floyd and Pac. U need to know the TIMELINE . Pac fought Dela Hoya in December 2008 - So early 2009 was the year when people started talking about Pac vs Floyd. . Remember what happened in May 2009 during the weigh in of Pac vs Hatton??? Do you know? . Floyd received a lot of Hate by announcing his fight against Marquez during the Weigh ins of Hatton vs Pac, . . If Floyd Started at 130 then dont forget Pac started at 106. lol But thats not how u analyz their natural weight weight. its not smart. . Is Floyd a natural superfeather weight (130) in 2009? . Would it be Ridiculous for FLoyd to fight someone at 130 in 2009 just because he started at 130 more than a decade ago in 1996. lol It doesnt make sense. . BTW you dont chose your next opponent base on the Pound for Pound Rankings. . . lol It consist of fighters from different weight Divisions. . Its like Usyk choosing the No. 1 Pound4Pound right now who is Inoue. . . lol . Why Pick someone at 135 while theres a lot of fighters calling out FLoyd at 147. lol .

@@Drifter101z Manny-Floyd after Manny beat De La Hoya (December of 2008), which still means it started in 2008… but arguing over the particular start date doesn’t really matter because the idea of a Floyd-Manny fight still started after the Manny-De La Hoya fight, which is what I stated lol. Floyd receiving hate for announcing a fight is a normal reaction from his detractors so I don’t what point you were trying to prove with that lol. And no, Floyd isn’t a natural 130 in 2009, but he was still a naturally smaller 147 since he came up 4 divisions rather than starting at 147. I have addressed all your argument points/questions and I have already gave you a reason why Floyd fought Marquez (which is backed by what Floyd said himself), but yet you strawman my argument and deflect the questions I ask you. So let me ask again, why is there a double standard for Manny going up to 147 from 135 and Marquez going up to 147 from 135? Why is weight only a positive thing for Manny but negative for Marquez and Floyd? Please don’t duck these questions 😂

Great breakdown, as always! People always seem to trash talk the Philly shell defense saying it has obvious flaws, but it seems like some of the greatest fighters like James Toney, Mayweather jr, etc counter punch like crazy from it and are hard to hit.
@hookgrip4jesus310
@hookgrip4jesus310 Жыл бұрын
Well, it *does* have obvious flaws, chiefly the lack of lateral head movement to one side (as well as lateral movement in general being more restricted) and a heavy reliance on straight punches (hooks don’t have as much behind them due to the narrow, bladed stance). That said, a good fighter knows his own weaknesses and works around them-same as in most any fighting style. Like most everything, there’s a give and take.

Yeah yeah its a criticism that has some merit, some even discount the amazing win entirely which is absurd, but the fact remains no one ever did this to Marquez not before or after not even at this weight when marquez officially moved up the following 3-4 years after this, its also worth noting Floyd has literally never weighed more then 150 for like any welterweight fight, heck against Canelo he was like 152 -154 max and Canelo was 167 for example and that was at Junior middle officially, this welterweight fight like had Floyd weighing in at 148 for Marquez max! still a demerit to technically keep it from being perfect for sure but enough to discredit or make this anything less than an amazing win absolutely not. I know what ya mean though and yes Floyd was wrong to break that 144 contract intitally.

@@danielhicks4826 I don’t think it wipes out the achievement but it’s one of many reasons Floyd will never be the pure fighting champion I see in others of the era. Everything was calculated to inflate his victories even though post De La Hoya it was a business insuring that every decision he made would result in wins that would keep people questioning his skill. Waiting for Manny to age, fighting very young or very old and not prime fighters. It’s a shame because Floyd is a legend and I can’t really get down with him.

@@goforward8697 Yah I know what your saying I got ya, I just look at it like this, that all just means he's not Ray Robinson, or Archie Moore, or Ali, and several others, bu5t he still at the end of the day has a great resume regardless even if it could have been even better- and it could have been- it's still pretty much better then just about everyone else in his era and the one dude who maybe has a better resume than him- Pac- he also beat post prime or not- personally I blame both for those failed bs negotiations in 2010 both sides egos refused to budge Pac over some Npo I won't do testing 2 weeks out from fight night crap and Floyd his usual antics, so that one went both ways far as i'm concerned, but yeah Floyd missed a few fights that woulda moved him up even more, but even in a lot of the fights people call"cherry picks" for example fact is most of those guys were either title holders or top 2-10 rated at the time faced which means there anywhere from okay to good to great tro elite wins anyways as is. I cant put him above a Robinson or Ali or Moore and several others though absolutely not, but still makes him one of the best ever in the end anyways could be top 20 at worst more likely top 10 and ya dont get that high without having a very very very good resume or a great one in the end even if it could have been even better ya know what I mean. I think the only fighters of the past 40 years who for sure or probably had better resume then Floyd for example would be lets see Holyfield/Hopkins, maybe Roy Jones jr, though even he gets some crap for his resume at times even though its also incredibly good really even with him missing the big 4 fights at super middle of the era, then Delahaoya probably, Pac I suppose, and i'd say he and Whitakers resumes are either about tied or one has a slight edge over the other, I could be missing a few? but point is even with the what could have beens and what he should have done and his unfortunate personality/choices at times, he still in the end does in fact have a great resume and one thats literally still better than 9 out of 10 fellow greats of his era. I do know what ya mean though. It really is a shame he didn't get to face Mosley even from a few years prior or Delahoya as well to, but then again same goes for Pacx who faced significantly worse way more faded versions of those 2, but he also faced like Bradley 3 times and marquez 4 times and etc etc but just saying for example that particular thing with them went both ways, but Pacs other fights likely off set those post prime faded wins of his own in Mosley and Delahaoyas case, where as at least Floyd got to face a version of them that had some left at least ya know.

@@goforward8697 Fella, what you're doing is called dry hating; hating on someone while pretending to be complimenting them. First, if you knew much about fighting or ever actually boxed, you would know that there is NOTHING that you can do to "inflate" a victory outside of the ring. You either win or you lose, INSIDE of the ring. Second, how do you wait for an opponent 3 years younger than yourself to "get old"? All of you haters who always tell that lie never seem to acknowledge the fact that Mayweather is 3 years OLDER than Pacquaio. Also, if Pacquiao was so damned OLD when Mayweather beat him, how is it that a 40 year old Pacquaio was able to soundly beat a 28 year old Keith Thurman 4 years AFTER Mayweather beat Pacquaio? Second, you're trying to downplay and make excuses for Mayweather beating Canelo by claiming that he "fought very young" fighters. Fella, Canelo Alvarez was an undefeated champion with a record of 42-0-1 before he fought Mayweather. He was the most dangerous fight and fighter Mayweather could have fought at the time, he moved up 2 weight classes to do it and Alvarez still came in outweighing him by 15 pounds and got schooled. If he was "too young", and "not ready", how was he undefeated up to that point, and stayed undefeated for 8 years AFTER Mayweather beat him? How come he wasn't "too young" or "not yet in his prime" enough for all those other guys he beat? Your excuses are bullshit. As far as anyone questioning Mayweather's skill, again, this simply shows that you don't know boxing. People say a lot of things about Mayweather, some true, some not. However, no serious critic questions his skill.

The Black fighters that get the most love are the ones that died decades ago (for obvious reason: they didn’t beat anyone whites cared about and whites today weren’t around to hate them for whatever excuse they could think of) & dudes like Mike Tyson who says everything they want to hear (he’s made his waves attacking other Black fighters and giving all his life’s praise to a white dude and in general talking like he was raised white the stuff he says is weird and we don’t relate to much of it in our community but white communities resonate with it). Amongst those Black fighters he’s attacked is Floyd. No surprise when racists are quoting things to disrespect Floyd they flock to one of Tyson’s quotes. Naseem Hamed Wasn’t hatred for his persona. And he’s a foreigner. There’s no angle this can be taken where a double standard isn’t applied and goal posts aren’t moved. It is what it is.
