At the start we are told that leisure batteries are designed to be slowly discharged and recharged. This does not apply to lead acid batteries. Lead acid batteries only allow 50% of their capacity to be used before you start to damage the battery. If your leisure batteries drops below 12.1 volts it has went below the 50% threshold and you are now damaging the longevity of the battery. Lithium batteries are different. They give you 95% of their capacity. But charging them at low temperatures can damage them. Also the 50% threshold applies to the vehicle battery also if it’s lead acid.

I am going to buy a motor home and will have a budget of about £20,000 I need a 4 berth and it will be used to travel to and from Spain 🇪🇸 where we now live . So any suggestions you can give me would be fantastic, I have driven large van in the past for my work years and now drive a 4x4 every day . Look forward to more of your videos . Thank you . Alan 😎

Funny thing is buses drive with interior lights on so it cannot be illegal, your not supposed to be showing a white light to the rear, number plate lights are white but you cannot see the light directly so obviously a white light to the rear only means a direct light.

@TheMotorhomeMan 10 ай бұрын
🤔
@ianfreeman7817
@ianfreeman7817 5 ай бұрын
@TheMotorhomeMan Hi - yes Junkhousedog is correct. Both batteries will charge and deliver power with either of the two lead arrangements shown towards the end of the video. That's because the length of the connecting leads is very short and the electrical resistance of the leads is exceptionally small and can be ignored. So, in-effect both batteries discharge and charge in parallel as the resistance of the interconnecting leads is negligible. In which case the voltages equalise across the batteries with either of the two arrangements. The latter arrangement is, though, considered best practise in general when connecting parallel electrical loads and that is because where longer leads or higher electrical resitances are at play then the effective length of conductors is equal across all the power sources (sorry it's a bit technical but I think that is why you will hear a misconception that the second battery won't work whereas it makes no practical difference for the case you demonstrated). Hope that helps.

Yonks ago I was still attached to wife no1 she owned a T4 or a T5 and it was a petrol for the life of both of us we could never find out why both leisure and vehicle batteries always drained when the POS always went as flat as her doodass, so what did the dumb mare do?, she bought a damn portable generator. Don’t get me wrong though the generator worked very well but rather than spending money to find the cause of the issue which an old commercial mechanic I knew spent an afternoon fixing and a bottle of my 50 yr old macallan and fixed the issue so the schmuk wasted her/my damn dosh but it doesn’t detract from your informative and in most cases hilarious videos so please don’t stop making them because make me howl. 🙏👍

hi, new to your vlog. my motor home was plugged into mains, while parked on drive, last Sunday, I unplugged and took van for good drive on motorway and A road for round trip of 25 miles, today Wednesday 17th February having left van on driveway unplugged from mains since Sunday, the warning lights for airbag and seat belts came on and the millage reading was also flashing, this stayed same after a round trip of 5 miles checked the panel both leisure and van battery reading was very good in the green, the AH however was low at 25% in the yellow. parked back in drive, plugged into mains hook-up, returned after two hours an the AH was 100% in green, started van, no warning lights. did not put alarm on in drive during anytime of the above, don't think anything left switched on, using supply, how come the AH dropped after only 2 to 3 days. also only have one leisure battery, do intend to fit second and possibly putt another solar panel on roof, at present 100 amp panel would like at least another 150 or more. sorry about the long explanation your thoughts please, ps recently seen you in link up with bob earnshaw. best regards Tony

I have my solar panel charging both the leisure and vehicle battery, but while the engine is not running. Can I ask is it safe to run the vehicle whist the solar panel, through the solar controller) is still connected to the vehicle battery? I ask this because will the heavy charge coming from alternator feed back into the solar panel and burn it out as it could do that I suppose. I have an in line fuse from the vehicle battery to the solar panel controller where there are 2 connections for 2 batteries, No1. I have the leisure battery and No2. I have the vehicle battery connected, as I only have one leisure battery I didn't want to waste that No2 battery input at the solar controller panel. Can you advise please?
