The swap of Kelith for Vex as the person in mortal peril(tm) at the end of the episode works very well in the show - it provides a rationale for some of the inter-character relationship changes to happen in the compressed timeframe they had to do when shrinking campaign one into twelve 20-ish minute episodes, and gave an "oh, heck" moment for fans of the original show who were (of course) not expecting that at all...

"Matt could have something planned out..." Don't worry on that. He does. Boy, howdy, he does.

If there is one thing that Grey Griffin is amazing at, but is shockingly not given nearly enough chances to show it, is bloody curdling screams of pain and anguish.

I felt pity for Delilah too. She's definitely evil and had to be stopped, but she really did love her husband, so there's a little part of me that does feel sorry for her

"I broke the world for us" That was & still is one of my many favourite quotes from Campaign 1. We all have someone we would break the world for.

So, may sound sadistic, however, I'm so happy you both get emotional over this show. It really shows how well the show is doing and how invested one can get in the show because whether you've watched campaign 1 or not, it proves how into the characters you can get.

The set designs and locations on this show are freakin' amazing. The backdrops add to the fantastic battles so much.

Love that even as an astral projection you can still hear the clank of Pike's armour 😂 (Delilah's chant is worth watching the subtitles of, definitely some future allusions!)

The Briarwoods are great villains because you can love and hate them in the same second. Delilah's grief is so raw that it hurts, even though its exactly what she deserves

The best villains are the ones where you can (hopefully almost) sympathise with and understand their motivations - the monster never sees the monster in the mirror (literally in the case of Sylas...)

I love Dustin's reactions when discussing Silas's death, seeing him remembering and processing of the impact this has on future stories is great.

It took me far too long to realize what silas' death reminded me of. The placement of him grog and and keyless is almost reminiscent of Raditz Goku and Piccolo in dbz

The emotional rollercoster was something on this ep, mute button scanlan, epic silas end, keyleth suntree boost, zigurat active and the ending talk about stakes being raise.

Anyone else notice some of the specific words Delilah Briarwood says during her spells to summon The Whispered One? Easter eggs all over the place.

I think I just remembered that, when Pike vanished due to Reasons, someone from the crew walked in and took the computer away? I have to check and recall but there was definitely a story reason for her to vanish at that moment (aside from just the drama or her bad connection.)

There's definitely something a bit tragic about the fact that a necromancer and a vampire could have lived forever, but have had less than a decade together since being reunited They're both far past the morally grey point, but it does feel fitting that some of the first taste of that campaign 2-esque villain sympathy is between two families originally from Wildemount

I love you guys' reactions. It's interesting how much they changed, and usually when a show deviates from the source material, it often gets a bad reaction from the fans. Vox Machina seems to have nailed it just right.

In addition to considerations to future events, I think another major reason for why Keyleth took the hit instead of Vex was because it fits the narrative a bit better. First of all, the audience is a bit more invested in Keyleth at this time. Up to now Vex has been ... kind of a bitch, whereas Keyleth has been one of if not THE emotional heart of the group. Further, there is the fact that Vax just recently confessed that he loves her and we haven't gotten a proper response to that. But, most importantly to me, this provides an opportunity for a LOT of character growth and development for Vex. Vex's character arc throughout season 1 has been her distrust and lack of connection to the party outside Vax and her slowly coming to view them as family. We've seen her grow attached to Percy, becoming his rock, and even her fondness for Scanlan as she worries over him during Scanbo. She has a decent enough relationship with Pike and Grog, but the one she still is antagonistic towards is Keyleth, largely because of her fear that she'll either hurt her brother or take him away from her. By having Kiki take the hit in order to save Vex, it allows Vex to realize how much she actually cares about Keyleth and, more importantly, how much the rest of Vox Machina truly cares about her. And though she has already declared to Percy that the party will never abandon or betray him, it's at this moment that Vex realizes that the same thing applies to her as she finally comes to see that Vox Machina truly is her family. And, to be fair, sacrificing herself to save Vex is TOTALLY something that our ray of sunshine with antlers would do, so it is still in keeping with the heart and soul of the story and being true to the characters. It does a LOT of narrative emotional heavy lifting and ... yeah, a fairly solid adaptation change choice imo.

I kinda like how in the game, Cassandra wasn't under Sylas's charm. It made me feel even more betrayed when Cassandra gave Delilah a potion of healing, which the party had given her, to help Delilah continue fighting after Sylas's death.

You need to watch as a bonus or something Matt's big no and "i broke the world for us!" from the campaign because it was even better! :D 👏

Grog defeated Sylas with the power of stupid. "What the fuck are you-" is all the time he needs. Pike in melee combat reminds me of Yoda fighting with a lightsabre.

I love the genuine twist with having it be Keyleth who is mortally wounded instead of Vex. Really caught me by surprise and I think, for the sake of this medium, it works better than having it go from Vex worrying about Vax to Vax worrying about Vex. Plus it allows for Vex and Keyleth's relationship to finish its arc for the season, plus its just such a Keyleth thing to do for someone she looks up to. Brilliant writing.
