Found that beech wool rollers could be made from rolling pins. More cost effective

I have seen in the past these types of matters in museums and living Museum. But I’ve got a mark one ransom, but it’s not your type. It’s the one with the two wheels either side of the plate and the wooden roller at the back. And the handles is wooden and with ransom mark one, Etched into the upright piece of wood, very old. Is Payne to do it a bit just to protect it from rust. It feels amazing. It is definitely are you talking peace It feels amazing. All I’ve done.

As the drive mechanism is on the right hand side those threads for the sprockets should be right hand, if you think about it the chain drive direction will be constantly tightening the threads, I bet that sprocket was welded due to a stripped thread. The pawls in the roller are the cause of lag when you push forward and not engaging the cylinder, give them a good clean and oil they will be fine. The collet on the roller shaft should come off with penetrating oil and heat and a lot of Mick love. All your AF spanners should fit Whitworth nuts n bolts, it's the thread pitch which is different between British standard imperial and Whitworth, the Whitworth sizing is a complete mystery lost in the sands of time.

Looks a great mower there Mick. Good work on the strip down. That will look lovely painted up. Good luck in getting the grass box. I’ve doing a soft “restore” tidy up of an Atco Balmoral someone gave me atm. Just cleaning up and painting the cylinder cassette. I also have an interesting push mower restore in the shed for spring. A “Presto Roll Mo” made in Preston from 1930’s ish. You ever heard of them?

It is not the first time I have seen the roller cog welded .usually the thread is broken by over tightening or putting it on by the thread being stripped in the process.

it would be time consuming but you might use a angle grinder and carefully remove the weld without wrecking the sprocket or shaft.

Nice mower Mick. Is it possibly welded because the large sprocket isn’t the original one? I used one similar to cut my grandparents grass way back In ‘70’s
