Another interesting and bittersweet video. Such a shame much of the old infrastructure has sadly disappeared. We are in debt to people like yourself for sharing this nostalgic look back at Cornwalls railways. I personally think in many ways the world was a better place back then. Certainly slower and less stressful. Look forward to the next one.

Many Thanks for the video, I used to sit on the platform at Chacewater station with my Ian Allen loco spotters book watching the GWR locomotives steam pass at great pace. I also travelled from Chacewater to Newquay many times, brought back many old memories. Again many thanks for the taking me back to the day`s when life was much slower and a great deal less stressful. The view from the platform as the steam loco`s tilted due to the trackwork being banked was a real site.

Well done! A great collection of old photos... and you took the time to wait for the modern trains to pass to give up the updates. Excellent. What man didn't rearrange, nature took back, eh...sometimes it was hard to distinguish where any previous tracks had been.

Was working on a farm at Legonna in 62/63 and Peter Sidebotham the Farmer and I stood in one of his fields watching the final train journey Newquay to Chacewater. Can you remember Gwills Halt? Trewerry/Trerice? The two Newlyn East Halts? Shepherds? Goonhavern, etc BUT. . . are you aware the FIRST LINE was just a track to East Wheal Rose established in.1846 and Trefry probably the richest man in Cornwall built the line and a metal bridge over Trenance to carry lead and silver, and furthermore Clay from St Dennis to Newquay Harbour. Those products were pulled by Horse drawn trucks. The line was extended onwards to Shepherds and down the right hand side of Scotland Road to Treamble Farm and a Fullers Earth Mine (Back-end Gate of Penhale Camp!) On the farm there was a proper railway platform still there in the 1960's. It was only once reaching Shepherds that the idea of continuing to Chacewater became a reality! Much of the traffic was children going to and from Truro schools.

Thanks for your comment. Given that I was born in the 2000's, I can't personally remember Gwills Halt, or Newlyn East Halts, or any of the other things you mentioned, I can only read it in books or visit the site in the present day, nonetheless, it is fascinating.

Before 1964 a couple of my school friends came from Lostwithiel to Fowey by train, the line is still there but only used by China Clay frieght. Ii's a lovely line alongside the River Fowey. The 'car is king' idiocy ruined Cornish transport, not to mention the dearth of buses.

Every now and then, they run a charter train from London to Fowey Carne Point, it hasn’t run since the pandemic started but that might change soon.

Excellent, informative and entertaining video. Thanks for all your hard work that went into making this so enjoyable and yes bitter sweet but I guess we should focus on the positives . In the 1970’s there was a government plan to cut all lines.west of Plymouth and it only got stopped because a brave MP leaked it to rail magazine and they in turn leaked it and the outcry for the scheme stopped before it gained traction (pardon the pun). Surprisingly it was a Labour government plan. Thank god it didn’t go ahead .
