The old pictures of people packed in are brilliant. Takes people back to a time when people weren't afraid to be happy. To enjoy life. How times are changing. I love the then and now shots. Also loved your series on butlins filey. Please try and get back there. Keep up the good work.

I remember "big" Ned was the operator of the scenic railway, back in the late 60s. And "Uncle" Jack Blunden was in charge of the children's rides. Jack was from Blackburn and worked every season on the Pleasure Beach until he passed, in the late 60s. He also had a smallholding near Witton park, in Blackburn.

Heyas Dazza, fabulous, fabulous, 👍👍 all those overlays of yesteryear and today. What amazed me most was how BUSY the pleasure beach was back in the older days as compared to modern times. Free entry, simpler rides etc and folks were there for a weeks holiday not day tripping. No Benidorm on the scene back then 😀 Cheers DougT

As much as I love the newer rides like Valhalla, Infusion, Icon, Skyforce, Ice Blast Revolution and the Pepsi Big One that dominates the park, it is the older rides that no longer exist wish were still here, Log Flume, Wild Mouse, Log Flume, Noah's Ark, Cable Cars, and the long gone Reel. There was also the short lived Ranger. The Big Dipper is 100 years old next year, and the Grand National really a twin track Big Dipper came in the 30s. But it is the Fun House I miss the most, even though it was very smelly, and just wish today I could spend all through the night there, 12 hours, 8pm to 8am in brown or grey stockingfeet, on little known Friday nights in April and December when it was not usually open back in the 1980s.

These before and today theme retrospectives can be heartbreaking realizing what has been destroyed for the evolution for survival/success, and, realizing that in 2024 some lost structures could not even be replicated because of cost and contemporary social values. Oh, I yearn for the days of being an uncomplicated well reasoned adult again.....

Superb. Excellent merging of the old and new contrasts of the Blackpool Pleasure Beach. This must be even better when you are familiar with the BPB. I have visited here several times but probably more familiar with the Morecambe Pleasure Park ("Frontierland") which is sadly no more 😞. Some very interesting photos that show how popular these places were. 10/10.

I have really enjoyed your videos so thank you so much for sharing. Going to Blackpool every summer as a child in the 1970s I couldn't wait to get to the pleasure beach. There is a ride which no-one seems to mention at all and I can't find any photos or information about it at all. All I remember is that when you got on the ride and into the cars there was a mechanical man playing an organ (Reginald Dixon perhaps?) Do you have any idea what this ride was and what it was called? If you have any photos that would be amazing.

What a lovely film, showing an incredible mixture of old and new. Without doubt, the old-time pleasure beach used more sedate wooden rides, and the newer pleasure beach many more complex steel-girder structures. The thought that most of us will be left with it than the pleasure beach of old was about having a bit of pleasure on the rides that made up a major part of your holiday. Sadly, the modern-day pleasure beach often little more than a highly exploitative arrangement by which visitors can be fleeced for bit of cash they have access to. Yes the modern pleasure beach looks pretty grim out of season, but it isn't much better in the height of summer. To many modern day visitors to Blackpool, the pleasure beach is decades away from it's former glory. Hopefully, at some point, it will be sold to some new owners who will think about the happy days of the past and not just all the cash coming through the tills. Anyway, my complaint is with the modern owners and not you. You've made a great film -which really brings back the happy memories we all formed all those years ago. Thankyou.

What a superb video! Congrats Darren on this one. So many memories of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, and because of your series I learned that the whole site was actual on the beach until they seperated it! Who knew! I suppose the clue is in the name but I always thought it was called BPB because it was opposite the seafront! The demise of BPB was when they changed it from just being able to walk around and pay to go on rides, then to buying a book of tickets, to charging for a wristband but also charging people just to walk around the place. One of the main attractions for me was to be able to walk around and soak in the atmosphere of the thousands of people who went there, be it on a day trip or a weeks holiday. The funfair had a buzz about it. Even though you may not have gone on a ride, you still bought food and drink there and had a great day. But now I'm older, I'd just rather walk around and watch our children go on the rides, but I'm not paying £35 upwards just to do that! It used to be free to walk around, but still buying a wrist band for the ones that wanted to go on rides, then it went to £5, then it was full price, but i believe they were re-introducing a £10 walk-in charge, but even that is extracting the urine. Since wristbands were introduced, and i had a very long conversation with people at the funfair about this, I said that the number of people visiting would go down fast, and it has. Your pictures showed how busy it used to be, even on a cold wet day, but now its not that busy, compared to 10-15 years ago. Southport went down the wristband and charging to get in route and that bankrupted it. It was closed for a few years and left to rot, but gladly it got a new owner who doesn't charge you to walk around, and its very busy now.
