I have had the Honda CT 125/Trail 125 for 4 months now and I thought I would give my review and upgrades that I did along with how to use the clutch. I love riding this motorcycle in Chiang Mai Thailand.

Thank you so much for the downshifting suggestion, I’ve got about 25 miles on my trail 125 and it was getting a bit nerve-racking. Keep it upright my friend God bless.

More thoughts on the automatic clutch and heel/toe shifter. Mr. Honda specified that the first Cub 50 have these things, because he wanted a rider to be able to hold a package in his left hand, and shift without scuffing the top of his shoes. That's why the auto clutch and that's why the heel/toe shifter. Those needs do not translate very well to life in the US, but things were different in the early 60s when a light motorcycle was the only transportation, many people had.

Thanks so much for this!! I live in China and just bought a Cross Cub 110, a Chinese cub variant that’s very similar to the CT125. Like you my chinese is only functional so I didn’t get any guidance on riding the bike and the manual is in Chinese. But I thought I was smart! Many years ago my girlfriend had a C70 so I had experience of the ‘clutchless’ gearchange and assumed it was the samew. However, on the new bike the shifting was clunky and downshifting was HORRIBLE !! I noticed the ‘double-click’ in the gear shift and was beginning to think it was a fault. I’d had the bike about 3 weeks and 300km before I accidentally realized that if I rested my foot on the gear shift it would slip the clutch. After a bit of research I finally found that Honda completely changed the system about ten years ago. The old system was a centrifugal clutch. The new system has 2 clutches! A centrifugal clutch that engages under power to drive the bike. But there is also a MANUAL clutch that disengages when the gear lever is pressed. Your video is the final piece in the puzzle! I was in the process of figuring all this out myself but you have sorted it out for me. Now I can ride the little bike in total harmony! That last tip, about being able to shift from fourth to first is brilliant! Again - I had done that by accident, (although it actually goes to neutral) but I had not realized that it only works when the bike isn’t moving… CHEERS and happy trails!

Basically the same engine as the old C50/70/90. We used to hold the gear lever down in first, rev like mad then quickly release the gear lever to pull an easy wheelie.

Ahhhh, man, so proper a machine your bike is! The CT 125 is such a decent bike, but the thing I like the most in your video is, that you actually make an amazing review of the machine itself, but also showed your mods, upgrades and customizations. It was always so fascinating to me learning how, but also WHY, people mod their vehicles for their specific needs. I maybe am too hyped about "The Narrow Gate" Perspective, but I could bring some really strong points why this review is one of the best bike reviews. p.s.: And what about the Tan (Coyote) color, oh boy oh boy, such a lovely applicable color. Here is the kicker joke ---> It seems that one of the reasons the color exist is just so to fit on that particular bike! Thank you for your video, Tony!!! Kap Khun Krap! 🙏🙏🙏🏍

Sorry this is totally nothing to do with your Vlog but I thought you may be interested to know this. We’ve been following you since the beginning being interested on what hurdles you had to jump to get to Chiang Mai with your dogs etc as we’re in a similar situation ourselves. Our dogs are big though, a Husky and a Weimaraner and we think they would attract too much attention from the Soi dogs!!!’their 8 this year so we’ll wait and just make do with trips to Chiang Mai two or three times a year for the moment. Anyway a few months ago you vlogged the WVS in Hang Dong, and I’m excited to say that after watching we contacted them and are visiting them in two weeks for two days. This trip we’re bringing our 15 year old granddaughter who would like to be a vet nurse on leaving school and they have very kindly arranged for her to observe procedures while my husband and I help clean and feed etc. We recently updated our Wills too including percentages to WVS and 4 other animal charities in Asia ( the kids are still well looked after!! ) we always hire a car and buy dog food so we can stop and give food to any sad looking dogs. I just wanted to thank you anyway for this as we were looking for a 5th charity WVS was one I’d never heard about and is perfect. 😁

I'm almost certain that the shifting trick you speak about at 13:05 doesn't work with US versions of this bike. I know the Asian Super Cubs have the circular shift patterns allowing you to get from fourth to first in one click at a full stop but the US and European versions don't have this feature. Regardless, I'll try this out on my CT125 next time I'm on it!

I live in Canada just got mine red one yesterday. Come to a full stop in 4 th gear, 1 click down get you to neutral, 1 more click down to 1 st gear. The circular pattern only works when the bike is in a complete stop.

The toe /heel shifter is there to make shifting with boots on easier. Anyone with experience riding ANY sort of motorcycle will tell you that riding with flip flops is a dumb idea. I'd leave my helmet at home before I left proper footwear at home.

I have one that's a 2022 that I just got and the transmission works the exact opposite way... (I'm handicapped with my left leg and other places so that would have been perfect for me) I'm not sure why it's like that... ((Forward shifts down 321n and the back shifts up 234)) Also I can really only use the front brake because you really have to stomp on that right side rear brake to get anything. It's so low you cannot have your foot on the peg and use it Plus you have to press it pretty hard. Is it possible they did something wrong ? (On assembly) and my last quip is for some reason when I go to lock the steering it won't do anything I press it down and it will not go into the lock position. Other than that I love the bike and it's more fun than I expected at first I wasn't sure I could handle it cuz it weighs twice as much as me but I'm very happy I just wish those things weren't an issue. I also realized too that the super Cub is a bit faster... That's simply because they've eliminated the weight if you took off the back rack believe me you'd go faster but you wouldn't have any place to put your stuff... Admittedly there's plenty of other places you could put stuff on the bike or you could even get a much lighter rack ? I really really like your extended trunk !!! That would be awesome if I could do that 😊. I saw a guy put a trailer on the back of it and drive it 720 mi most of it in the rain and you couldn't hear the engine and he still did 55 and weighed a lot more than me I don't think that the riders weight plays that much of a difference really ? I mean I will admit I hit 61 downhill and we don't have many of those here in Florida and it was only a slight one but that's what it said I figured it was really probably 59 because it seems like it's off by 2 mph or so. Anyways thanks so much for the video I really appreciate that and I really like the people in Thailand know what they're doing it gives me a lot of confidence they brought a good thing to the world really good !!!

Thought I'd let you know about the toe/heel shifter. When you are in 4th gear and come to a stop, pressing down on the toe shifter takes you to Neutral, not first. As long as the bike is moving, it won't allow you to go from 4th to Neutral as a safety item. So, when in 4th and coming to a stop, you have to depress the toe shifter twice to go to 1st...... I did a video on my channel about shifting the Asian version of the Honda CT. I live in Chiang Mai and do a lot of off road riding with my CT also, if you would like to go ride with a us sometime, just let me know..... My KZfaq channel is Lazy Dog Productions.....

Hi, I wouldn't recommend pulling the clutch and coasting, on any vehicle. On the CT for example, you can roll to a stop and just remain in 4th gear, there is little to no engine breaking and being semi automatic it will stop and still be in gear. Once stopped neutral or 1st gear can be selected. I'm loving my little CT, in fact I bought 2, one for the Misses........ Nice video. Cheers
