Dawn’s Early Light Flag-Raising Ceremony at Ft. McHenry

The Old Guard and reenactors of the War of 1812 unfurl and raise a hand stitched, replica of the 15-star, 15-stripe flag to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the defense of Ft. McHenry, September 14, 1814. The ascent of the stars and stripes would inspire 1st Lt. Francis Scott Key of the District of Columbia Militia to pen the immortal words that would become the national anthem. The flag was raised at exactly the same day and time as it was 200 years ago during the War of 1812.

It was September, 1814. A peace agreement was made around Christmas a few months later and ratified early 1815. However, word of it didn't get to the combatants, and the Battle of New Orleans was fought in January, 1815. It was a major US victory. It was good for British the War of 1812 ended when it did. They had to fight Napoleon one more time and finally defeated him at Waterloo with Prussian(German) help in June 1815.

I have a new anthem "Oh say can you see by the dawns early light, what so proudly we used to hail at the twilights last gleaming whose broad stripes and bright stars used to be so galantly gleaming and the rockets red glare the new bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag is going down after Russia is done ore the ramparts we watched are not so glantley streaming and the land of the ONCE free and the home of the NEW PANSY brave!
