Awwww crusoe asking if his daddy was fine while he was in the hole was so precious. Sawyers face lighting up when he saw crusoe in the digger and waving back to him was also an “awwww” moment. So many awwww moments! I love your family. I wish that all children could have mommy’s and daddy’s like you. We would have such a better world.

We installed one of those septic systems on our farm and it worked perfectly for a large family. It doesn’t need to be terribly big because it recycles the grey water and expels it. One thing though, you need to be careful of the cleaning products that you use in your bathroom. I stuck to cleaning with carb soda which does a great job. I also use an environmentally friendly laundry soap. 😊😊

Your already eco conscious 👏 so yea using as eco friendly products as is reasonably possible helps enormously with the natural process escpecailly reducing the smells in the hot weather .... and biogradable loo roll for sure....there is a difference having found out the hard way myself...stick a bit of loo paper in a glass if it dissolves quickly thats biogradable -While paper is biogradable some are just slower to breakdown than others ..and may cause a back up 😮 .. peace of mind if nothing else ......❤

The septic system seems like what we put in in the US. We don't have the hills to run the waste water down so it goes in leach lines to soak in the ground.

I absolutely love the Mario/Crusoe relationship, and how patient Mario is. Crusoe and Sawyer will grow up with a wealth of skills and knowledge that most teens have to learn at Trade Schools. As parents, John and Tara you execel, your children are confident, caring," you ok daddy" when John was in the hole, and happy. As a retired Social Worker, I long for this to be true for all children. The bathroom is coming on nicely, and soon that whole extension project will be completed. Well done. I am looking into the Flexispot chair.

What beautiful flowers you have blooming, daliahs, foxglove, cosmos, etc! They really complement the land! The bathroom is coming along, but yes, between the floor and the vanity, there is so much pattern and texture that the rest of the bathroom should probably be plain to let the pattern, especially that vanity, stand out! Great thinking, John to get the gravel into that septic tank pit! Work smarter, not harder! Your little stone house is so charming, i really hope that you can keep all of it, including that extension after your main house is built! You have worked so hard and have poured your creativity into it! Jarrell and Mario were sent to you as such valuable helpers from Saint Anthony of Padua, patron saint of Portugal! The boys are absolutly adorable! Caruso is becoming quite the little man! Sawyer is his mini version!

John you are certainly taking on projects and jobs that you are not comfortable with but accepting the challenge and doing a fantastic job of it all and with all the pressure. Jao is a lovely young man and is such a great help and I thought that was a great idea with making that gravel and cement shoot with the corrugated roofing. All is well on the Newbys farm. Happy Lovely Sunday Newby family, glad to see your Stone House bathroom being finished and so the skeptic tank outside, have to say for me this podcast was special we saw actual photo of your parents Tara, your Mom relaxing in that wonderful lazy boy given to John, but it was the familiar faces of Mario, Joao we have not seen for a while but seeing your little boys around their Daddy and how Crusoe enjoys working with him was most joyous to us. I love how you let the boys explore and participate in projects. It is a relief to NOT see helicopter parents fluttering around their children 24/7. Good job parents and lovely farm! Great boys!

I would put the shower tray in first, then the tile the walls. The tiles will overlap where the tray meets the wall and divert the water away from the gap between the wall and the tray. If you do the tiles first and then the tray, water will flow down the tiles into the gap between the tray and the tiles because no matter how well you calk the gap, it will fail sometime in the future. Then you have all kinds of problems with damp concrete and mold.

I think in years to come Tara, i see you writing childrens books. The adventures of The Newby's. You must have so many stories already. It really made me think of childhood books like Enid Blyton's adventure series. Especially when Crusoe came over to look at the homemade slide with Obi. Second try on my post. I’m sure you’ve already done it but the shower tray goes down first. Then you seal it with silicone. Then you tile and you do a second seal of silicone. I love watching Caruso’s excitement with the digger. It never gets old. Cheers!

Your boys are so well behaved and polite. Crusoe did a better job climbing the ladder Than you did John. He’s already talking about centimeters. He’ll be helping you around the farm before you know it John. If Crusoe and Sawyer were any cuter they would be beautiful.😊. I just love Obi. He reminds me so much of my dog. Border collie are very smart and you can teach them just about anything. You can even get him to go get the boys and bring them to the house. Another wonderful vlog showing your homestead/farm progress. I sure enjoy your love and respect for each other and how the boys adore their parents. I also appreciate seeing your parents and how they have been welcomed with open arms to your home. To see the local tradesman at work is amazing, their craft is well documented in assisting you with projects around your slice of heaven. I watch few channels here on youtube and yours is one of them, rarely make a comment. But this time i have to. I really love how you guys are motivating people. The way you appreciate João and tell him ''good job", or the way you motivate your children is, as you guys say all the time, "brilliant". If i'll ever be a parent, i'm surely taking you guys as an example. As a Portuguese (from the north of Portugal and actually lived in Amarante for a few years) i really appreciate that you chose Portugal. We need people like you :) all the best for you.

I had a hard-of-thinking moment when you were talking about the chair, and for the life of me I couldn't work out why you'd lugged that into the new bathroom! Either those honeycomb tiles are playing with my mind, or I've not had nearly enough coffee today! ☕🤣 Watching Crusoe on that ladder is just so heart-warming! He takes his time and makes sure he's got his footing but he's not afraid of it and it's so lovely to see! Add 1 large cup of Agricultural Lime (powder) to you old septic tanks. every 2 - 3 months. Removes the stench/odour of raw sewerage.

Re septic tanks. When we had septic system we used a product called Rid-X it is a natural bacteria and advanced enzymes start working immediately to break down paper, protein, oils and grease. We would just dump it down the toilet once a month, or more often if we had many guests. And our septic system had a leach field where the water would leach out into the field. It is whole system. Where I live in California we had special requirements from our county how and where to place it. Because as you can imagine, you would not want to place it anywhere near a well where the waste can contaminate the well water. You may find Rid-X or Portuguese product that does the same thing of breaking down the waste. Just having someone pump the waste out is only part of a healthy waste system. And it makes a big difference what you put into the waste system. Some people only use special toilet paper that breaks down easily and so forth. And it’s good to look at the products you buy as “septic safe” on the label. Best wishes that you get it all sorted,out.
