The importance of reading the water for fly fishers and all anglers cannot be stressed enough. In this special episode host Tom Rosenbauer goes into great detail to help anglers to understand the essentials using animations, graphics and underwater video. A must see video for all anglers who are keen to enjoy success!

Every fisherman should see this. Not just fly fishermen. This is the foundation to a successful day on the water. Tom, you've done it again.

Thanks for the tips ....when I 1st started fishing salt water lagoons I had no clue where the fish would be so I just read the water in the lagoons like I would a trout river or stream and it worked out well and still does . I find a lot of halibut and spotted bass this way ..... another favorite species to fish for is the Corbina right off the beaches here in southern california .....we sight fish for them in the ankle deep water along the shores with crab patterns . I would like to see you make a video for Corbina one day ....lots of fun and the most challenging !

I hope you read this and reply. I fish a small fifteen..twenty acre city pond that is stocked with hatchery rainbows and browns once a year. I fish mainly with sixteenth oz jigs or manufactured bait. The water I fish...and the most productive is six..seven foot deep. I think it is fed by an underground stream. How will weather affect the depth the fish will be actively feeding at??
@newflyfisher
@newflyfisher 5 жыл бұрын
rick weather definitely has an impact, whether temperature or fronts (such as a storm). the fish will move in the water column based on these factors and also food. If you check out our Playlist focussed on stillwater fishing (lake fishing), Phil Rowley and others will help you a lot to understand where and why fish move in the water column

Very instructive vid but a little confused about one thing. At 7:02 he says trout are more likely to be "ahead" of the rock than behind it. Wouldn't they more likely be "behind" the rock, that is, downstream of the rock - where the current would be slower ???
@Brian-fu9um

Oh - it is explained better between 9:00-10:00. Please ignore question above :-)

Brian, not always, sometimes the use the "hydro cushion" created by the rock to ride on. you can view a video about this here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p8eWdsSTnNWop2g.html

I love this channel, the content is informative and relaxing, however, being constantly interrupted by annoying commercials makes your content unwatchable. I can't make it through a video without several annoying interruptions.

Mac, thanks for the feedback. It is a tough balance to strike between advertising (needed to help pay for content) and not crossing the line and undermining our ability to deliver high-quality fly fishing videos. We just stopped using "unskippable ads" so viewers can skip thru ads they don't wish to watch, hope that helps. Thanks again for letting us know your opinion.
