(Part: 2/3) JB-Weld 6th porting in Zenoah G270RC custom Trevor Simpson Cylinder

**PLEASE READ BEFORE DISLIKING**
Stuffing the intake port with JB-Weld is a standard method for all these small engines that have been converted to a reed valve inducted crankcase. Over the years there have been over 10,000 of these Zenoah or Chung Yang cylinders stuff with epoxy...I'm just the 1st among the 10,000+ to show how it's done.
In this video I show how I stuffed a Zenoah G270RC cylinder with JB-Weld epoxy so that it can be 6th ported for a Trevor Simpson casereed(reed valve inducted billet crankcase) and boost port the piston to match the added 6th ports.

Also keep your radius tight as possible. In all areas. And add a "brow" if you will on the rear transfer.. As they are the main transfer and benefit from this

Making the hole walls similar to the surface of a golf ball so the JB Weld grabs from it will make it hold better. Mix the JB Weld and apply enough to cover the tape. Let it dry, scrape the surface of the recently dried JB weld and apply another layer, do several layers instead of one lump paste. Will make it much stronger. Applying very fine shavings to the JB weld will make it much stronger as when rocks are applied to concrete and becomes one massive grid. As an example, when I fix balsa airplanes, wood shavings is applied to the epoxy, or baby powder, it becomes a much stronger bond than just pure epoxy. Good deal, and thanks for the video

@@joshlee1799 you think so? i'm using jb weld, weicon bicomponent, and pattex liquid steel for years now, every engine still running. Never had problems of it getting loose. I even used it to change angles of the transfer ports in the cylinder. It holds up if you want it to, needs good preparation, clean and rough surfaces.

I've been experimenting with JB in the transfer ports of my bicycle engine. I end up removing quite a bit of material from them when I clean up the cylinder ports. So I add JB to the intake sides of transfers and the way jb flows it seems to get me a good angle while still maintaining velocity.

ur like me. i do lots a stuff with my drill press. good stuff. one day im gettin a lathe and miller tho. small stuff ,not micro ,but prob the grizzly $600 odd dollar size. 8x15+ and mini mill none to fancy but enough

You won't believe how I block off the cylinder end of the intake tract. I found them in a toy section of a department store. I can't remember the name of them, but they are made by "Nerf". They are a tiny little football made of Nerf foam, with a short shaft with feathers like the end of a arrow, (but softer). I just put a piece of clear packing tape over the port, and stuff in the football. Fast and works great. I love to build reed case kits for TS cases, (and wish Trevor would produce them again), and have been building them for over 15 years now, since Trevor came out with them for the old ISA go-Ped racing, (of which his and my racers won just about every expert and pro race for the last 3 seasons of that series with his cases and our top end kits.), and I never mad a nice block off plate. I just made a bunch of them, and they will be sold with my top end kits, and singles through DDM for those who want one. They are the best looking block off plates on the market. It took me 4 days to design and make the darn things. :) I will be shipping some to DDM this week. By the way, you do better work than some people I know of who do this for a living. Doug @ ESP

Cool to hear someone that was into go-peds doing things like this. I had a couple that had modified motors running on alcohol that I used to ride around everywhere. Miss the smell of those things! They got me into mechanics and building things and eventually a job at motorcycle dealership in service. Best years of my life!

Yeah, they're the 5oz. tubes as opposed to the 1oz. You can get them on ebay or an auto parts store...but it's cheaper online.

Amazing work! I just got a case reed pocket bike motor for $47 on eBay to play around with, would you recommend adding one big boost port up the back or doing 2 or 3 thinner ones? I’m looking strictly for lower end punch and don’t worry about ring gap over the port it’s my motor to blow up should worst case scenario happen. I’ll be cutting the new ports on a hobbyist mill and then chamfering by hand.

You should do 2 smaller port and avoid them running into the ring gaps, those engines already have a short piston ring life.

I'm suprised JB weld is withstanding the temperatures and the friction. Is the stress on material that much lower on RC engines? I would have guessed totally the other way around.

Nope, not at all. The intake port on the cylinder becomes obsolete once you convert the engine into a reed inducted crankcase. So the cylinder intake port is then filled in with epoxy which allows for an extra set of transfer ports. If anything, your engine will be getting getting more fuel. This engines use Walbro pulse carburetors which have tunable high and low speed jets.

As long as you have bridge-ports separating the ports the ring(s) will be fine on these small engines.

why did you make ports in piston? these boost ports are feed from crank case like side ports so no point of piston port feed

I've never seen seen piston windows from indirect induction , I've only seen it from direct from reed through piston window ,,I've read up on top(world champions) spec tuners guides on zenoa's and non have this ,I wouldn't ogmf thought it even run as disrupted induction cycle

Nice work, is that an ADA billet head? Do you sell the head kits? I have 2 brand new in box Trevor Simpson reed cases and need head kits for them when I have the funds.

@@TheNoisePolluter ok thanks for the reply, where can I buy the lower heat sink sleeve you have used, I was looking at using an ADA head on my new TS cylinder but the TS cylinder has one more fin machined off than the ADA cylinder so it would leave a gap.

The lower heat sinks are not really available anymore, but it's called a Dark Soul 34mm heat shell.

Where's the running engine and what spec performance difference is there ,think people was asking why such a length of the bump in the ex port from inner cylinder to outer port ,I get why as snag the ring but why was it continued all the way ?

That's for the ring gap when the piston is at bottom dead center. The gap in the ring needs to be prevented from pass through any opening in the cylinder wall.

Do you mean the boost ports in the piston or cylinder? If so, for doing the piston you I just drill a hole through with and hand drill, like you see at: 8:08 and then I use a carbide dremel rotary bit like you see at: 5:40 to then hollow out the boost port I traced out with the sharpie marker.

True! But the intake port on these cylinders sit below the piston when it's at bottom dead center. Also, stuffing the intake port on these is a standard procedure and had been done several thousand times. You can even buy these cylinders ported with JB-Weld.

If you believe the jb weld is fine to use on a cylinder, then build a cylinder out of it and prove it is just as strong as what the factory uses. Jb weld is great, dont get me wrong, just not good with gasoline or high heat applications.

@@ericsalidbar1693 there are many types of jb weld, jb marine may hold gasoline, havent tried it, if heat, gas, pressure or antifreeze is involved i reccommend permatex 2 part epoxy, permatex also makes kits for fuel tanks and in a pinch a bar of soap will seal a pinhole for about a month. also i dont know where youre from but where i live its almost 20 % ethanol in our fuel, alcohols both ethelyene glycohol (antifreeze) and ethanol eat most epoxies including normal jb weld

you miss matched the piston and the cylinder port that has a bad effect on airflow also if you make this as a performance engine you also need to polish the cylinder ports no oppinion about 6port cuz never tried it

These engines are used in various radio control(RC) applications, this will be used in a stand-up Go-Ped scooter.

This cylinder is moddified for a custom billet reed valve inducted crankcase. The intake/carburetor now feeds into the crankcase Vs. the cylinder port.

What was the JB being used for on the intake? This modification is standard for when using these billet reed crankcase conversions and has been done several thousound times.

it was used to fill in part of the port to change the intake shape completely., not to fill a hole, only to fill space by bonding to the cast aluminum, which it held for a few months but eventually gave way. i believe harmonic vibrations near the camshaft were to blame. tempting to try another product (devcon) but would rather have it welded and not risk it. do not get me wrong i have used it on engine casings countless times and will continue to do so, but not in a port with gasoline.

Nice, I added a boost port in a similar way on a pocket bike engine by widening the intake as far as possible and putting a jb weld bridge in the middle to carve the boost port into. I used hot glue to take up space so the jb weld stayed in the middle, then melted it out. Have a vid of it kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLSYnJqhu6y-e6M.html

Yes this Epoxy method works, everyone who has a 1/5th scale Zenoah CY reed case does this for their 5th or 6th porting. Some 15,000-20,000 cylinders have been done this way.

Do you think the 6th porting is worth it over 5th porting? I tried test reed porting a throwaway head "don't comment on the piston I messed that up? Also didn't have a clamp for the head so its a little crooked but the end result still gave me allot more power then stock. photos.app.goo.gl/HzpML21o83cbQUS38

5th porting ideal for if you have larger eye-brow ports the intake side transfer port. and the 2 side-by-side boost ports(6th port) is ideal for if you want to keep the transfer ports as straight-vertical. Zenoah G320RC transfers are more ideal for 5th ports.

@@TheNoisePolluter aight cool. Lastly I know piston windows favor being at the top for midrange power but is it true smaller windows allow more torque or should I just go as big as possible?

@@TrooperManaic The boost port should only be as wide as the port itself and the height be a little taller than the height of the port when at fully exposed(6-8mm).

No, this is what you do to these small bore cylinders that have been converted to a reed inducted crankcase. You fill the stock intake port with epoxy and ad in extra transfer ports. There's over 5,000+ of these reed conversions and well over 10,000 JB-Weld ported cylinder's. I'm just the first one who made a video on how that's done.

I'd love more than anything to cast a whole new beefed up ported cylinder with advanced cooling etc., but not all that easy, just watch #2STROKESTUFFING 's channel.
