Look, I'm not saying this is true or false, but I encourage everyone to go watch some of Ryan Gosling's interviews because his Kenergy was off the charts long before Barbie. Cat calls do happen back to back to back sometimes, and you don't have to be wearing a dayglo thong. For most women I know, it starts in the gradeschool ages. For me, it started when I was 7 years old, from men in their 40s who just saw me playing outside. Guys should attend a girls' night where women just tell their cat calling/creepy men stories. It will make you see the world in a new way.

@@Enter_Zoneless Power play, show of dominance, especially if it wins points among a group who have a permissive culture. Side note, I just saw an interview with Greta Gerwig about the catcalling scene. The Normies mentioned one of Shapiro's main criticisms is that the scene was unrealistic. Welp, apparently while filming the scene, actual bystanders were responding to the actors the same way the scene was presented. No one got in groping range of Margot, but they were looking her body up and down, while congratulating Ryan for his bold outfit. Margot was the object, Ryan was the cool guy. Of course, Shapiro won't believe Greta's dirty lady mouth. ;)

So I've been thinking about the Kens Dreamhouse thing. I found out recently that Barbies Dreamhouse was released almost 10 years before a single woman could own property in the states. Until 1974 women needed their husbands to cosign in order to purchase a home. When Ken was released he had the more important jobs (pilot to barbies stewardess or doctor to barbies nurse) bu this soon changed in favor of a woman's rights bent. Ken never got a house because there was never a need to message that they should. The movie shows barbieland as a kind of inversion of the male gaze. The men are the accessories w no rights or importance socially in the way that women were at the toys conseption. The struggle that the Kens go thru is a bizaroland inversion of the struggle women had in the real world. Many women took feminism to an extreme and wanted a matriarchal world rather than the egalitarian message at the core of feminism. The movie is careful to show that matriarchy is not much better than patriarchy.

@nichescenes 9 ай бұрын
@@Sapphire_Reactsto be fair I don’t think the final discussion included enough say from the guys as they assumed it was only empowering women but it was saying men get overlooked in certain cases too. Woman are pushed in society unfairly focused on looks. Ken was shocked people even cared about him. Some men feel women look at them like their the ugliest men on earth if their not rich successful etc. men fear approaching woman for fear as said that they will be called creep.etc. Woman fear men due to them thinking any of them could be a creep. Most people are just normal though. It works best when you realize one or the other isn’t correct. They both need to work together and understand each other. Everyone is worthy of respect. I feel the woman in reaction were hit home by the film but it was also about men and finding their own identity besides trying to impress pretty woman. Woman expect certain things in society from men as well and we need to help each other not follow that and make us all happy and comfortable. I remember in a video rana said she never hit in a guy in her life when all the men in the group had said they need to approach woman since woman never approach. That type of thinking built that mentality that sadly we deal with. Aka cat calling. Approaching woman who hate it. Etc. overall it’s unfair but we just all gotta work and value each other Idk.

@@thialhoinj1971it was basically telling us that patriarchy and matriarchy are both bad. The barbieworld before patriarchy was similar to the current day world with the uprising of feminism leaving men behind and not caring about them. "It's all about barbies and kens are just there cause men don't need empowerment" and yea patriarchy is just bad for women. its a cool message thats doesn't force the idea that we're equal (as in the same) but different.

@@thialhoinj1971 There is a profound difference between not liking the movie and going around lying that it's anti men. If you didn't like the movie, fine I get it. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. But let's not pretend that half the internet lied about this movie and its view on men and trying turning people away from it as a result.
@onesliceofbanana

@@kc_h7hWhile I agree that both are harmful to the society, I’d like to point out that matriarchy is not a direct opposite of patriarchy. While in the former, women are expected to lead, men do not feel unsafe in a matriarchal society. Whereas in patriarchy, like majority of societies now, women are not just neglected, they feel unsafe as well just how it was pointed out in the movie.

The line about Kens slowly gaining more power in Barbie land is not meant to say "this is how it should be". It was drawing attention to how unfortunate the whole thing is. It's bad in our world, and it was equally bad in their world.

I think it was epic to have Leslie Hendrix play the doctor that Ken talked to because she played the main medical examiner on the OG Law and Order. She's just awesome in the role and I can't imagine that wasn't intentional casting.

I have a Barbie Birdcage for Halloween where they are all in costumes, a Mummy Mommy, a werewolf, Bride of Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein, Medusa. I entered it in the State Fair in Oklahoma, but it was a little too tall for a centerpiece. I had fun watching people look at it and there were a lot of people who thought it was sacrilege to do that to a Barbie, but I got them all at Thrift stores.

I like how the movie even inside touches that a product isn't going to solve the sexism problems of the world so it wasn't going to try or preach. Instead it only showed the reality with humor to not be too heavy and the bad of both extremes like the speech at the end of how you are expected to represent all women all the time. Also that Mattel doesn't care as long as it makes them money at the end so go ahead and roast them
