Kendall worked at the company for well over a decade before he was originally going to take over as CEO. Shiv expecting to just assume the role without ever even working a day there is insane.

Completely agree! She has no significant business experience. Being a CEO requires a knowledge of business and experience. It's not just because she's a woman she's not really considered by her brothers, she's established her own successful career separate from the business. Would Logan think she'd need to do more training than Roman, sure, because he's sexist, but she does need experience. Also, Shiv and Connor are not the same scenario. Business is a business. Politics has become less about ability and more about spin, so an idiot like Connor thinking he can do that job makes total sense, even though it's ridiculous.

Will argue that Shiv is very smart too, maybe even the smartest as she believes she is. However, I think Shiv's issue has always been that she underestimates everyone else and overestimates herself.

Remember that Shiv is also outside of the company. At least Kendall and Roman held positions in the company for a while that gave them some “experience” of its inner workings. Shiv has been on the outside doing politics. That coupled with her being a woman would make announcing her immediately look bad

Shiv absolutely needs the training. Roman and Kendal have actually been working at WayStar for years. Shiv needs experience and a 3 year timeline is incredibly fast compared to how long it really takes to climb up the ladder

He's partially playing it up, but he does seem like an inquisitive guy and it's cool that he offers a different perspective, which makes their discussions more fun. He doesn't come across like a bad faith actor that can't be reasoned with to me. RT TV has a similar person in their group

Shiv specializes more in politics than management and worked for Gil's political party. Roman and Kendall both have experience working in management for waystar royco for years. It makes sense that shiv receives management training and doesn't immediately get the job for a field she isn't familiar with. Also, what kendall did to Lawrence was kind of deserved considering the fact that he didn't back him up during the vote of no confidence.

100%.This is why Kendall's "Because my dad told me to" is supposed to sting extra hard for Lawrence. Kendall may not like him on a personal level, but he genuinely wanted to see his company succeed in some form. By allowing Logan to retain control of the company, Lawrence sealed his own fate just because of his personal issues with Kendall.

Pat really underestimates the amount of young people who lean into conservative, right wing, evangelical values. I'm from Florida and its astonishing the amount of people I have talked to who think that its just Disney and beaches and not realizing that there's a huge chokehold and influence that the bible belt has on folks and the more rural the areas you're in, the more likely it is to be. Yes, statistically speaking, younger gens are more likely to lean liberal but that doesn't mean that in totality, its like that. I think that he makes his comments and shares his thoughts in good faith, but at the same time its a lot more complicated than he thinks. The world isn't so black and white and age/generation doesn't equate to having a specific moral compass, integrity or a certain kind of value system. There are so many factors at play that include, but arent limited to, systemic, historical, cultural, caste, race, religion etc. Its just not so simple.

The truth is that you can't change the world by being passive. The older generation will pass down their values to their children and grandchildren, so if you want the world to change you have to take action against the things you do not like and in support of the things you do like.

He's not an idiot. It's not unlikely for him to think that he could become CEO. Tom has put in the work. Shiv won't even put in the work to do management training

I know Tom is kind of a joke but during most of the show to this point he’s objectively one of the most qualified people for the job. He has all the experience Kendall does, he’s been in the inner circle, has led in multiple branches of the company, is technically family, did dirt when they needed him to, and he doesn’t have the baggage of the kids.

Tom is also good at dealing with people once he feels them out. He'll annihilate you or he'll kiss ass like there's no tomorrow to get what he wants if it's what's needed. The Roys are the stereotypical business men/woman, but Tom is the one that gets far because he understands it's a game. Greg needs to watch and learn, if it wasn't for Tom he'd be working a minimum wage job waiting for his grandad to die to inherit something.

@@vickster5001 The way I read that is him seeing that as a bonus and that getting Shiv off Gil's team influenced the decision, but wasn't the only factor. I think he has a problem where on the one hand, he wants to give it to one of his kids, but on the other hand he can't stand the idea of stepping down, so whenever the "heir" does something too pushy it really sours him on picking them. There are a lot of small things he does and says which make me feel like he was being sincere in his decision to pick Shiv though. Like, I think he meant it when he said it.

Since Navi brought up the Arrested Development comparison in the uncut, mine are: Easier ones are: Kendall: Michael; gets successor rug pulled from under him. Connor: Gob cause no one takes him or his "career" seriously Tom: Tobias. Delusional. Greg: George Michael cause he's relatively innocent but has one dark secret Little more complicated: Logan has shades of George Sr. but I'd say he's kinda like Lucille with how ruthless and cunning he is. Roman: Geez...Buster cause he's the man baby of the family that is very close to mother. Also Lindsay in that he's just looking for something to do. Also shades of Gob. Shiv: maybe the hardest. Generally competent like Michael. She's constantly working a secret angle like Maeby, yearns for daddy's attention and has turbulent relationship with mom like Lindsay. Also married to Tobias. The unifying factors of all characters on both shows is a desperate need for approval from at least one parent (or in law). There's a glaring similarity in the dating interests of one of them but I won't spoil.

It seems like you guys latched on to Logan’s “you’re a woman” comment (which is both true and shitty) but Shiv hasn’t actually worked in the company. To say she’s just as qualified as Kendall and Roman from a resume sense is wrong, and for her to blanch at putting in 3-4 years of prep training like she’s above it is kind of ridiculous. I think in another episode they mention that Kendall has done a lot of the same things (Hong Kong, London, etc.) over a longer time scale. As to whether Logan is serious or just jerking Shiv around that’s a more interesting question.

#SundayRunDown Keep in mind, not only does Logan have the excuse that they 'world' will have its patriarchal view of Shiv taking over, but it's an open question how serious he is about here taking over at all, and I think its mostly a game, in that he really made the offer mostly to make sure Shiv would disavow her job with the Senator. That's why once she calls and says she's fully 'in' he's immediately putting her into a holding pattern.

Kendall wasn't offered the position immediately, he worked there for years. Obviously Logan is messing about with Shiv, but it also isn't at all unreasonable to ask her to do some time. Otherwise how the hell would they announce her as CEO? They don't have unlimited power, they still answer to shareholders, it would look ridiculous to give the position to someone with zero corporate work experience.

True, Shiv is delusional to think he'd pick her over anyone who actually worked there for years. People can say that Tom was jealous and wanted to get her out of his way maybe, but even he saw that she was getting played. If you compare Tom to the Roy kids he's the most stable and qualified one, so if he had kids with Shiv that could finally make him part of the family in Logan's eyes and be a potential pick for ceo.

Shiv is not being offered a job by Logan, she is being played to leave Gil who has a bief with Logan/ATN as a political figure. Logan doesn't consider Shiv as "the one" mainly because she has no experience, because she actually doesn't, and also because she is a woman.

Tom actually works for the company and is head of a major division, which is why he seems a more legitimate threat for CEO to Roman than Shiv, who has never worked at Waystar. The training program is very fast, the shame is that it could’ve happened years ago! That’s where the real sexism disadvantaged Shiv: Logan could’ve offered Shiv the opportunities & confidence that Kendall got (even tho it’s all limited & half the time playing a game) but now Logan is geriatric & only making offers when it’s too late to work. Shiv can’t see she’s getting played because getting the CEO position is an emotional endeavor they all chase bcuz it signifies their Dad’s love & approval. But Logan is basically using Shiv for her value & keeping her under control, with no intention of doing right by her.

Kendall feels like his dad's puppet now because of the covered up death he's responsible for, that's a card Logan can play against him if he's that cold. See how Logan dropped the other two kids once he felt he had total control of Kendall? I don't think Logan respects any of his kids seeing how he's toying with them. I wish we had an extra kid in the family who left the family for a modest life and never looked back, Logan would have disowned them for it. Tom wants to be ceo, but he was right when he told Shiv that her dad could humiliate her and discard her like he constantly does to her siblings. Shiv should have started her own pr company for politicians, celebrities and other public figures.
