Genius. If you don't go to the Neurosurgeon with this information relative to injury pain/dermatomes or specific/localized muscle wasting/dysfunction- don't bother going. They don't check dermatomes much less myotomes. They never asked me to take my shirt off and turn around, for a thoracic injury that kept me in bed for 2 years. When the PT came to my home after emergency spinal surgery due to the aforementioned ignored injury, the first thing he did was look at my back, saw my spine had been dramatically bent (ie. "traumatic scoliosis", previously) and that the specific/&degree of nerve root damage was obvious by looking at the level of muscle wasting in different muscle groups. The moral of the story is, use your free Medicare PT hours and go to one and have him evaluate you based on dermatomes/myotomes- then take that to your neurologist or neurosurgeon.

Hi good sir, any idea why my NPTE exam study book suggests C7 as the primary wrist flexor myotome? Magee, DJ: Ortho Physical Assessment is the reference. It seems that your explanation of C8 makes more sense in conjunction with the anatomy of the brachial plexus. Clarification much appreciated!

Hii, I'm really confused: if you injure median nerve why don't you get loss of C6 dermatome if that's the only peripheral nerve carrying C6 sensation? Thank you!

Nice video but i think C7 is responsible for wrist flexion rather than C8

That is the overlap concept I talk about … it depends which reference you use. Most references say C8 is responsible for wrist and finger reflection.

7:04 median nerve is combination of upper trunk (C5,C6) & lower trunk (C8,T1) right?

According to the textbook "Orthopedic physical assessment" by Magee (sixth edition), the C7 myotome is responsible for wrist flexion, not the C8 myotome. Could you please explain why there may be a difference between the information you presented and the information that Magee presents? Thank you. I very much appreciate your content

Hi Abel, yes very frustrating indeed. There are overlaps between adjacent myotomes and dermatomes. As such, some disciplines in health care use one method of testing where another area using another. That is why if you google myotomes family medicine, sports medicine, PT, OT, internal medicine, neurology and anatomists may have variations in the segmental levels represented (as you mentioned in your comment above). here is a link to my "Myotomes" video tutorial.
