I wish Grand Seiko spent more time perfecting their bracelet design. I love the brand, I own two, love the dials and movement but they haven’t perfected the bracelet. They keep putting out more limited editions with new dial variants but same bracelet design. Sub 10k, 15k and 20k at retail Rolex wins on bracelets. So Rolex watch designs as a whole package work better. Post 20k AP Royal Oak, VC, Patek all do lovely bracelets. I wish GS and Omega for that matter focused more on their bracelet design.

The newer omega bracelets are actually quite an upgrade from previous generations. Purchased a new speedy 3861 and the bracelet shits on the quality/design of the previous 1861 speedy pro

@@thorodinson376 not at all I got an omega sea master 300m on bracelet and it’s nowhere near oyster bracelet from Rolex now I have to spend 525 to get the rubber strap with deployable clasp

If Grand Seiko bracelets were finished to the same level as other luxury watch brands they would all be $10,000+ to $20,000 watches. The amount of time and labor that goes into high horology bracelets is quite high between the machining and polishing of individual links. Look at the AP Royal Oak, Vacheron Constantin Overseas Gen 3, EVEN the latest Rolex and Omegas models. When you hold those watches on bracelet you feel like you are holding quality and they wear amazing and look fantastic. So... all that said, I am not sure who is buying and how many watches GS could sell with a super bracelet, think about a stainless steel White Birch selling for $13,500!

As somebody who isn’t selling their watches, I appreciate, unlimited, limited editions because that means that my watch will be reasonably unique, but without having to sell my firstborn and half of my liver to get it. Everyone in the room might have a Grand Seiko, but they probably won’t have mine. Obviously it’s different if I’m trying to resell it though.

All my dressed Piaget, even the one with the jade dial cost under 1k. I've got plenty in the 2005/10 era, they were practically going for the prices of swatches.

Bro's, I was just thinking about bracelets the same way a few days ago. Today's bracelets are all the same, especially in sport/diver watches. Go back to vintage 60's 70's pieces and there were so many interesting bracelets.

If memory serves, my grandfather told me that his two-toned Rolex Datejust cost him $300 in 1969, which was equivalent to 2 months work pay for an accountant. His cousin is jealous, saying the old Datejust looks better than his cousin’s newer one.

Can somebody explain how these watch community conversations look in real life? Let's say somebody is asking about my Explorer 1, should I tell them that Rolex really wanted to be the first on Everest but unfortunately to them they were not worn at the top? So this model was released to celebrate something that didn't happen for real? Juicy story but honestly it's very boring... The rest of the time should I praise oyster case and quote wikipedia on it?

Somehow I missed the point up until the last 20 seconds. Usually don’t mind the banter but today it was too much off topic and not enough on the point. I’m wondering if a pave dial day date with the fluted bezel is a no go or yes a good purchase but we seemed to skip that type of pieces here.

“Make something that everyone likes” is a very simplistic statement. Some people like the illusion of making money on Chrono24 prices. That’s not the same as collecting dial variants of certain watch model. Speculators are not collectors.

The Cartier advert was directed by Guy Ritchie. I think it was very well done. It's hard to advertise a watch on tv, without pure rotating product images (ie. Rolex). I thought that Ritchie and the actors did an outstanding job showcasing that Cartier watches and the Tank is and has been beautiful and classy across multiple generations. Essentially that great design is timeless.

A good exemple for such a "rich" looking Rolex is the only "Crown-watch" I own: Ref. 16078 "bark" with this shiny ivory dial (not champagne) and the jubilée bracelet (made by Gay Frères ;) from 1981 ! Real "artisanat", no mass production.

Grand Seiko abuses the words "Limited Edition" too much. Also, the story behind a new model becomes more and but laughable. (With all due respect to their engineering) With Lake Suwa (SLGA007) they underestimated the popularity of this limited edition which caused them to lose a lot of money. The solution: a small change to the dial and hands to still bring in those customers who wanted a Lake Suwa. And the SLGA021 was born.... Don't get me wrong, I like Grand Seiko a lot, but Limited Editions and bizarre concoctions of names I think go a bit too far. I am also curious to see how long Grand Seiko allows their prices to rise. They are currently at Submariner level and it won't be long before they continue to rise. I am curious to see if people will still choose a Grand Seiko 'Limited Edition' then or a Rolex that holds its value (approximately).
