As a Lucid dreamer, I've touched this topic sometimes, and I can say that Reality Shifting is literally Dreaming, just in a creative way.

I think escapism is a valid coping mechanism, but only if you’re self aware of what you’re doing. I love making fanart and buying merch of my favorite cartoons, but I’m not trying to literally astral project myself across the universe to catch a pikachu lol.

I was watching this video after just waking up. My mom called me so I got up pretty fast, I had a head rush and after taking a step or two, I fell down, flat on my face, breaking both of my front incisors in half. That happened 2 years ago. I passed out for like 5 seconds and came back thinking I had been lying there for an hour. What I was told was that my parents heard a loud thud and went to investigate, finding me flat on the hard tile floor with a chipped piece of my tooth lying beside me.

Tbh, if you can seperate the two 'realities' and still function here, while being healthy about 'interactions with your DR', it's chill. Whatever helps you function, as long as you're not harming others or yourself in the process. If going off to Naruto Land in your dreams to kiss Sasuke makes you happy, vibe, man. Just don't get carried away and try to full-on escape there. You're a tourist to your DR, not a refuge of your CR trying to move in permanently to your DR. Heck, even I do it on rare occasions, to influence my dreams, as it's one of the few times my Aphantasia kind of bugs off if I do it right. It's nice to feel like I just get to vibe and interact with my favorite worlds like that, feeling like it's real. And while I don't exactly doubt the multiverse theory stuff, I don't think your dreams are a portal to other realities, even if all you've done in said dream could have happened in another universe technically speaking. They're just neat pictures your mind makes while bored or sorting things into boxes, hah. Tl;dr, I agree. Manip your dreams, parallel universe thought is neat, but don't actually think you *went* there. Keep your head straight ^^'

Revisiting this after a couple years, reminds me of us kids who seriously hoped that our futures would be less abusive than the present that we had. This can happen when an area or country you live in stigmatizes mental health and sometimes tells kids in bad situations to just get over it and make nice. I can hope now that there are better resources out there that my friends, my sister and I never had as options. Or that some still don't have as options...

I’m a bit late and I know people say that it does no harm but I don’t think that. My friend believes in reality shifting and she does no school work because she thinks that she can just go into another reality. She believes there are no consequences to her actions, so she just says and does whatever she wants. Once she grows out of this phase I believe she will regret everything.

One thing to keep in mind is that some people in this community genuinely do have a mental disorder known as Maladaptive Daydreaming. When people claim they’re doing methods that don’t put them to sleep, it can sometimes be considered maladaptive daydreaming. I know some people who have this disorder and that genuinely have had “interactions” with fictional characters because of this disorder. Also, don’t get me started on how delusional this community is. They blur the line between fiction and reality so much that they are delusional and genuinely believe that their “desired reality” is a real thing. I get that there may be parallel universes, but I do not understand how they could include fictional sources being *real*. It’s a ridiculous premise. Another note, related to my first tangent; I think before we truly do judge these people, take into account a couple of factors: their age and their disorders/home life. For example, people with DID/OSDD often daydream of escaping their childhood traumas, which often develop into non-human alters or introjects (alters based on fictional/factual sources outside of their brain). Another example could be a child who is deeply attached to fictional stories. Third example could be someone with psychosis who already struggles with the line between fiction and reality. All of these people have something about them that makes them all the more prone to becoming victim to these communities with their manipulative tactics to convince you that you can join a fictional world, you just aren’t trying hard enough.

I thought that these people knew that it was just a controlled lucid dream, I didn’t know that they thought that they were ACTUALLY going to a different universe 🤨
