when james talked about how he hated when people were “cool” with their teachers, i was always like “yeah i agree”. but that was before i reached sophomore year of high school and met mr shinn…he’s a father figure for me and he’s prolly gonna be at my wedding someday 😭. i wouldn’t say im “cool” with him, but we have a father-child bond that’s quite wonderful imo

I had the same thing with a male teacher in the 7th grade. Everyone loved him very much and he spoke at weddings and graduations often. Sadly he passed away 5 years ago.

Aw thats sweet. My math teacher right now is super chill and everybody loves him too. He loves talkin and joking with everybody. This years one of the only times I don't hate math at all since my teacher is really awesome.

Sammmee I had a teacher who I’d talk with a friend to any chance I got cause he was chill and funny and he actually like talking to his students (so I wasn’t the only one)sometimes tho, I know I was being annoying(to the teacher and/or the students) by accidentally distracting him

Fr, my science teacher in 8th grade was like my mother lol. She was a bit older, but was super sweet and had a genuine passion for teaching (mind you, my school used to underpay its teachers so finding a teacher be excited to educate kids was rare). Anyways, she didn't choose favorites but I'd say she liked me a lot, and whenever I used to come to her with a doubt or submit other kids' ntbks to her (I was the incharge), we used to chit chat and talk like old friends. Ah I miss her so much ever since I graduated.

Damn the "quotation marks incident" took me back.. I took a class in poetry in college, and the teacher used to say it was wrong of us to assume you need prior information on the author's backstory to understand a poem, everything you need to know is in the text. So she would ask stuff like: "What does the author mean with X?" And I would be like: "because of the wording, it sounds like he means Y", and she would correct me: "Oh no, to understand this you actually have to know that he moved houses a lot as a child and that his dad used to beat him up". I quit right after that.

As someone who is friends with teachers, I still keep it professional and talk to them outside of their classes as well as never using their first name. I mean really, they're much older than me so the least I can do is respect them as an elder by adding a "Ms." or "Mr." to their name. Also I never even knew that poetry class was a thing because we always had to do Language Arts Literacy (LAL) and we hardly ever get to the parts of the book where we would read poems from there (which I like). So I would read those poems while the rest of the lesson was going on because I already read ahead of the story we were talking about.

I think the answer is, “anyone can dig a ditch, but it takes a real man to climb out of it”. The ditch is a metaphor for an issue or a problem. Anyone can get in to trouble, but only a real man can fix it.

That makes sense because have you ever been told that your just getting yourself into a hole but you just keep making it bigger well the reason you keep making it bigger is because you keep talking about it and the reason you keep talking about it is because you don't want to make the whole bigger and it just spirals deeper and deeper but what if you just stopped in the first place then that hole would never have been there or if it was there it wouldn't get any deeper.

I actually went to the same school as James! (Kind of) this school is K-12. And they divided it up by an elementary school side, and a 6-12 side. I only went to this location from K-2, but my mom got a job at a new location opening of the same school. I’m still in that other school as a senior as of right now, and I’ve met a lot of amazing people over the years. Although a part of me wishes I went to a normal public school, it has been an amazing experience.

Last year, my math teacher was really laid back. You don't want to do the homework? Alright, but you need to do it if you want to re-do a test. You want to play online games after finishing the lesson? Sure. She would also be really easy to talk to. It was probably because she thought we could handle it (it was an AP class, and almost all of my class could walk into a test without studying and get a hundred, including me), but I was still dumbfounded by it. Anyways, throughout last year she always talked about wanting to be a social studies teacher (or english?), and she's not in her old room so I think she got her wish!

This point is stated and restated throughout the book and i believe it is very poetic
