There's a funny story about this bit. This routine was filmed in North d.c... most of the black folks in that area have good gov jobs, college educated, it's def a middle class black crowd. And they loved the bit. Next week he did the same show in Oakland.. the audience had a lot of ganstas in it.. and they were threatening to kill him for calling them stupid. Security and the police had to rush him out of the venue as soon as the show ended. Shows the divide, at the time, amoung black folks.. 2 totally different cultures amoung one people. Goes to show you can't pigeon hole anybody because of their color. There is no broad brush.

@@stevenwilliams1805 absolutely. I lived in Arizona for years. And there is even a huge cultural difference among nations in that one state. The white mountain apache are far different from the pima.. and both are far different than the Navajo. I had friends among each and I swear I could tell which nation someone was from by their mannerisms.. long before they told me.

I know there's all different types of crowds that is totally true but if people can't laugh at themselves when a lot of it is based on truth and history and I'm talking history just like the last 30 40 years I've never been to Oakland so I can't say what it's like there but what I can say if you open up a business that's restaurant or Club related in any City if you start attracting people that are going to scare other people away your business is not going to make it! And when I say the people that are going to scare business away it doesn't matter the race it could be black it could be white it could be Asian it could be motorcycle clubs it's a very complex situation for what example look what happened to Baldwin Hills Mall which is now a ghost town it could happen anywhere in any City in the world and if people don't believe that then just continue to believe that everything is fine in the world Chris Rock just had the balls to say it

It's crazy to still see him making quality entertainment today. Comedy in the 70s, 80s, and 90s was so good because no topic was off limits and people didn't take offense to it. Good times.

Chris Rock is the king of observational humour and plays on the fact that the negative behaviours of the few can unfairly affect the perception of the many in any community - we would do well to remember that. BTW - I've only found this channel recently and while all of the boys seem grounded, the lad in the orange stands out as a free-thinker. He knows his stuff and articulates it really well . This is the type of young man that kids should be listening to. Good luck with the channel.

Yes and no. What other communities tend to do differently is that they throw their trash out. This is exactly what Chris attempted with this bit, finally throwing the trash out, but it wasn't well received among a large proportion within the black community.. amongst the.. you know who. When blacks start standing together and throw the n-words out, it only can uplift them. Police relations will improve, because there is no anti snitching code within neighborhoods anymore, which only serve to protect the criminals. The public perception will be better, because anyone can see the community trying to clean house and distancing themselves from those elements.

Still sleeping with your rival like Biggie & Tupac east coast west coast thing at the time was all hyped about that seems extra cold of the Faith. Again I dont think that's what your talking about but honestly I can't imagine any woman let alone a wife wanting to sleep with either Chris Rock or will smith. So will smith's wife supposably wanted to sleep with Tupac or Chris Rock. BTW I grew up loving everything NWA West Coast rap & Tupac. West side for life no respect for Suge knight though but hey. The great thing about this bit is that it translates so well. Everyone can relate to what he's saying here. I'm a working class white guy from the UK, but we had this exact same problem in the council estates where I grew up. Can't keep a disco open for two weeks without someone getting stabbed. Can't have anything nice in your house because that other family from the estate will rob you as soon as you stay away for the night. I'm not looking over my shoulder for The Media, I'm looking for that mad fella from the flats with the tattooed face and a can of Special Brew in his hand. Every community has their version of this - you got the majority who are just trying to live their lives, and the minority who fuck it up for everyone else. It's such a universal problem.

Honestly most Chris Rock specials are amongst the best comedy sets ever recorded! This man hit nothing but net during the 90s and early 2000s. Not saying he's lost it (saw him last night, and I can confirm he still a GOAT), but he doesn't turn out specials at the rate he used to

You guys are hilarious. But you’re also all interesting to listen to. Seriously. Your clarity and logical common sense commentary you engage in along with whatever you’re reacting to puts you all at the top of the reaction game for me. Many reaction content folks are basically posting a video of their facial expressions to something and simply exaggerate for entertainment. You guys are ACTUALLY reacting to the specific quality of what you’re hearing and witnessing. Excellent job. All of you. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

When you watch these older comedy specials you have to remember that we all laughed at each other back then, and had an ability to laugh at ourselves as well. So, people could tell jokes back then that they could never get away with today without being banned or people needing a safe space or their career being ruined by comments on twitter. Back then, nothing was off limits.

This was such a pioneering comedy routine. Nothing else like this existed before it. It raised the bar on what you could get away with and the simple observations no one had even thought to make a joke of. I suppose we had about 15 years of freedom from this (1996) until around 2011 when stuff like this started getting censored and today... you'd certainly not be viewed the same way as this was back then. A legendary stand up show, maybe the best ever done. I got my own joke (stole from a black guy of course, what do you expect when I'm white)...... Will Smith knocked on Chris Rock's door the day after the academy awards and said: _"I heard you got slapped?"_

I watched this special with my wife the night it premiered on cable (1998 I think). We had as much fun watching it on TV is if we would have been there live. We were falling off the couch, belly laughing. It was so funny and so popular that, for like a month after it came out, you would always hear people at work and in restaurants trying to steal his jokes and telling them all wrong. 😂

I was in college when I scored free tix from to this show at Radio City Music Hall. I had waited for hours for an audience slot to SNL, and I was next in line when they said the studio was full. Rob Lowe was the host and The Spice Girls were the musical act. Dejected, my buddy and I walked away and saw that Chris Rock was performing right around the corner and RCMH. When we saw the ticket prices they were way out of our price range. Then an old couple outside the venue said that they didn't feel like going to the show and asked us if I wanted their tickets. WHAT!!!! Heck yeah!!! Took our seats and realized I was sitting right behind NBA legend, Dr. J. It was awesome....though, as a white dude, I was kind of scared that if I laughed too hard at this part of Rock's monologue that Dr. J would swat me upside the head. Great memories!

Chris Rock is so popular because he tells universal truths. Every ethnicity, every race, every religion, country… has people within those groups that ruin it for the rest of the group. I’m Catholic and I could tell you about the people who only come to church on Easter and Christmas, or those that make a huge deal about how pious they are but never lend a hand when it’s time to volunteer and so on. You don’t have to be black to appreciate what Chris is saying. He tells the truth about the human condition just through the black experience.

Back in 1977 (yes 1977), I had a black friend when I was in college. He was very intelligent and was acing all his classes in chemistry. He was very popular with the other STEM students, which were overwhelmingly white and Asian males. However, I noticed that he never associated with black students. I asked him why, and he said that they often called him an Uncle Tom and Oreo. He told me that studying hard and getting good grades was “acting white”. I was stunned. Why would anyone attack excellence? He wanted to become a scientist, but was convinced by white male faculty members to go to medical school to become a more visible model for the black community. He was actually recruited by a very prestigious medical school. Their admissions office actually sent him a letter requesting that he apply there. He was immediately accepted. He breezed through medical school and obtained a prestigious residency. He became a highly respect specialist and a credit to his community. Chris is right! Do not let anybody keep you down!

I don’t comment on a lot of KZfaq videos but I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the intellect that Brandon brings. I don’t really know any of y’all (just watched a few dozen videos) but most videos I watch he’s always bringing up some study he read or an article about some relevant topic. He’s humble enough to not brag about it and confident enough to bring it up to everyone else and in front of a camera for KZfaq. I don’t want to believe any of it is rehearsed for showmanship, so I’m choosing to believe that’s how he lives his life and if so, he’s the kind of person who’s going to make a positive impact on the world. Keep at it 💪🏻 No disrespect intended to anyone else, you’ve all got your personalities and such. Just wanted to give him a shout-out 😊
